i don't understand why so many members are thinking apple is lying to them. It is half the price. There are always restrictions to everything. You cannot get 0% apr on a car unless you are qualified. There are millions of examples like this.

Think about the tv infomercials for different products. When they say, "But wait!! we will throw in this item, a $50 value for free!" is it really worth $50? Come on, its just marketing..

Maybe they are going to reduce the price to 1/2 price until they get MobileMe working.
I notice they don't have an ad showing MobileMe syncing the Calendar, Email, or Contacts on the iPhone. And they were so proud of MobileMe.

So now we are defending Apple with Ronco products?

The name Apple used to be synonymous with quality, integrity and simplicity. With its consistently misleading advertising [to this very day] and nickle-and-dime price plans, the 3g Iphone has dragged the Apple name through the mud, IMO.

No i am not defending Apple or any other company, especially Ronco haha. All i am trying to say is, the phone 3G is $199/$299. The 1st generation was $399/$499. There is no rebate involved. So it is half the price for the "product" Data plans and what not are a monthly charge that has nothing to do with the "product" itself with regards to pricing.

Apple cannot be everyones friend. They are a company...

Why are the Uk versions of these ad's so lame?

They're basically the same except they say 'very fast', probably because the iphone v1 wasn't very popular here... saying 'twice as fast' when everyone is upgrading from 3g phones already is not going to fly (and you can't make specific claims in advertising here without evidence.. I guess they could get away with it with a footnote on the screen saying 'Compared to previous model of iphone, subject to 3G availablity, actual speeds may vary' but they clearly decided not to edit the video and instead just changed the audio).

work friendly... NOT

Umm one more thing, they forget to MobileMe is not TRUE push and it hasn't worked right since day one... but thats ok, Apple Kool-aid always tastes good no matter how sour it is.

One thing that is absolutely ticking me off right now is that they are actually using "work friendly" as a concept. Right in the mac mail (now the dorky, baby boomer, self-centered ME mail) contract it says something to the effect of 'you shouldn't use mac mail for business purposes, we can't be held responsible for losses if outages occur, blah blah blah'). BUT, they say they are work friendly. NOT. I use mac mail for business and I've been experiencing way too much erratic on/off behavior for the past three weeks. I live in Vermont, so there's not a lot to choose from, but I'm going to look for a new RELIABLE provider ASAP. Which sucks, because I do like all the syncing, since I have two macs. grumble grumble grumble.

Judging by the negative reactions to the background music, I take it no one here is a fan of The Submarines.

You, Me and the Bourgeoise

The song is actually a rather odd choice, since the lyrics are particularly anti-materialistic.

Thank you, i've been waiting all day for someone to tell me what this is.

I agree that my internet isn't as fast as the one on the advert.
However, has anyone considered that they're just using cache to show features as opposed to giving a real experience?
It's like when they used to demo Quicktime movies over the web at keynotes. No-one has an internet connection that fast, it's just to give an indication of what could happen.

ahahahaha so true.

They have region specific versions of each of the ads. I'm in Canada and I saw "Unslow" earlier today on TV. GPS located in on downtown Toronto, here in Canada.

Also, instead of browsing the New York Times. The user was browsing The Globe and Mail, a very popular Canadian newspaper.

Obviously at the end it also showed the Rogers and Fido logos instead of the At&t logo.

Ads aren't up on apple.ca yet though...

I saw some YouTube clips of some of the foreign commercials. They had to find a way to internationalize the commercials and I think they did a good job. Doing custom content for every country would have been too time consuming and expensive.

Seeing you local city/newspaper is more cool once you see the other national commercials.

IM waiting for the Billy Mays ads!--))));)

don't know where you're from, but here in the UK I regularly get 5 bars and download speeds at least twice as fast as the 1st Gen (proof attached :) )

You can hardly blame Apple for AT&T's 3G coverage (but you can blame them for the bugs ;) )

yeah, although i don't get 3G in my hometown, a nearby town that I regularly frequent has pretty good 3G coverage as seen here:

I definitely notice a huge speed difference between EDGE and 3G

Don't forget that the iphone is underclocked and I'm sure apple can speed one up for a commercial.

Bit of a side-note, but can anyone think of a reason why the voiceover on the current iPhone 3G advert in the UK says "fast" the way he does? As far as I can tell, he's neither American, nor northern so I've no idea why he'd pronounce it like that; it sounds completely wrong to me.

Very strange. He should say 'Farst'

I love Apple
And I own an iPhone 3G
But those ads are so in-your-face. I would be like weirded out by Apple at how they're pushing a product in your face like that
They can't be slightly more subtle? W/e
my two cents

Did anyone see or hear anywhere in the ads that you must have 3g coverage to supposedly obtain these speeds?????

A lot of people who bought the Iphone 3g did so thinking that had 3g coverage when it is only a small area of A.T.&T's coverage areas.
