Theres nothing special here...not worth the upgrade from my 3g.
I'll just wait for the 3.0 jailbrake comes out.

OOOOOHH a compass and video. An extra 2 hours battery life. AMAZING!!!! I think I need to upgrade NOT!!!!!

The iphone is becoming just another phone.

I'll Pass.

Tethering not available in the US. I'll just have to go to Cydia then

I have an original iPhone and didn't upgrade to the (minimally) upgraded 3G. I don't see anything to get me to buy this one either.

Well, obviously not everyone is going to buy it. But enough for it to be a huge hit. I don't think anyone has to upgrade, really. There are way more non-iPhone users out there than people who have one.

I'm glad you're happy, but for me? I'd probably stab myself with a fork if I had to go back to just using EDGE all the time.

But that's just me.

When you consider last year's 3G announcement, this was a pebble in the ocean.
The hardware increase is nice but people that are shelling out the $300 want some external improvements too.

Forward facing camera and basic stuff that was on the original Blackberry phone like notification lights.

It seems since they have to keep the legacy phones alive, it hampers the new products.

The $99 3G is nothing to sneeze at, they will sell like hotcakes.
I'm suprised they would canabalize sales of their new hardware for that.

I would predict that you won't see the lines that the 3G had at its launch.
Maybe the first couple of days.

Just not enough to get the normal, non sheep to ditch their contracts and not worth the extra benjamin or 2 for new users.

Most places where I use my iPhone for data there is wifi, so 3G would not be any help, and would cost more per month for no benefit.

Seriously, a matte finish back and a black bezel would have made me happy.

The build of the 3g sucks, the 2g was such a solid phone.

I'm really impressed and excited for the 3.0 software but the new 3GS...Not so much. I really only need the 32GB space, everything else just kinda fell short of my expectations.

im not saying it won't sell! but im saying anyone who has been holding back on getting an iphone wont just make the jump now! because there is nothing enticing! i guarantee you the faster speed is not even noticable to the average person!

Thats their fault. No one told them to hold off.

and the prices are the same so if you wanted one now you could have just gotten one before!
You'd have a point, if Apple didn't DOUBLE THE SIZE OF THE STORAGE for the "same price".

So basically, the $299 16GB iPhone 3G is now $199.

They spent 2 hours on apps. I guess that is their main selling point with the phone as secondary. I did wish for the matte back. :(

See I thought last years 3G upgrade was a big let down. Only major updates were 3G and GPS last year, this year it's faster, better battery life, faster 3G, better camera, video, etc...

Now I could definitely see not wanting to upgrade if you already have an iPhone 3G (unless you desperately need video), but I will be upgrading from my EDGE iPhone to the 3GS. And I think the $99 price point for the iPhone 3G is going to help them sell a **** load more of those.

I think most people are disappointed because when you buy a new gadget you want it to look different from your old one.

I think I might actually sit this iteration out. We'll see.

I'm eying an upgrade to the 13" MBPro more than anything after this presentation.

The 3Gs just isn't that much of an upgrade. Did they even mention if ATT will be upgrading the network to 7.2 to accommodate the S's speeds?

Yup, I agree with mak10 on his points. This is a big upgrade for 1st gen users who didn't upgrade to 3G.
