After having "multiple conversations" with companies within Apple's supply chain this week, Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley believe that Apple is unlikely to release a fourth-generation iPhone SE in 2024.

In a research note shared with MacRumors, the analysts said Apple's decision not to launch a new iPhone SE next year could indicate that the company's rumored in-house 5G modem will not be ready any time soon, which would benefit Apple's existing iPhone modem supplier Qualcomm. Apple has reportedly been planning its own modem since at least 2018, and acquired the majority of Intel's smartphone modem business in 2019.

In April, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said mass production of Apple's modem would begin in 2025 at the earliest, suggesting that even iPhone 16 models launching later next year will continue to use Qualcomm modems.

Kuo had previously claimed that the next iPhone SE would have a similar design as the standard iPhone 14 model released last year, suggesting that the device would have been equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED display and Face ID. It's not entirely clear if Apple will move forward with launching this device with a Qualcomm modem at some point.

The current iPhone SE was released in March 2022 with a 4.7-inch LCD display, Touch ID, 5G, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and the A15 Bionic chip. Priced starting at $429 in the U.S., it is one of Apple's more affordable iPhone models. The first-generation and second-generation iPhone SE were released in 2016 and 2020, respectively.

Just update it already, Apple.

If there’s any design changes coming to the launch of the 15 lineup, incorporate into the SE and launch it early next year.

Call it the Mini, SE, or the ‘Smaller Than Apple Would Like But We Keep Getting Slack Edition’

Doesn't thing rumor circulate every few years, like months before Apple does, in fact, release an SE?

“Mediocrity’s normal; it’s what the word means uncommon enough to only warrant attention every 4 years.”

Good job, Apple.

At this point, Apple should have never eliminated the iPhone Mini.

The mini was discontinued because it didn't sell well enough but you can still buy a new one from Apple and other places for as little as $629 retail (13 mini).

You can also get certified refurbished minis from Apple with new battery, new outer shell, same as new 1 year warranty, etc. for as little as $439 (availability varies).

I thought Macrumors comments insist Apple could make their Modem in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024.....

At this rate, it is highly likely the iPhone 13 lineup, including the Mini will move down the line, meaning iPhone 13 Mini starts at $499 later this year.

Before it finally get replaced in 2025 with an iPhone SE Mini at $399.

I just fired up an SE1 that I bought a couple? of years ago when that batch of new ones came up for sale kinda out of nowhere. Never had a phone before. What more could I want than this one? I also don't need more than 640K of RAM. :) Really, this one is just the right size and it makes phone calls.

I think that it is more likely the 13 Mini goes away, just like the 12 Mini did last year when the 12 stayed and dropped to $599.

I hope the 13 Mini sticks around, but I am not betting on it.

I’d kinda expect new components in an updated style of phone with a bigger battery by 2024 to be honest. My father will be looking to replace his SE by around then…

The iPhone SE is just not worth it.

You can buy a refurbished iPhone 13 mini 128Go in mint condition for the same price as the current 128GB SE model. Why would you consider the SE instead?

The iPhone SE 1st gen was great. But ever since, it just hasn't been worth it.
