The iPhone SE is used for a lot of prepaid carriers. You can get a new, unused iPhone SE 2022 for $149.99 right now on many prepaid carriers. It’s basically a catch-all, bringing more and more users into the Apple ecosystem. It’s a very important device, IMO.
I sorta get that, but if I was on the look out for a modern phone at that price, I'd probably get one of the cheap Nokia smartphones or such like.

I guess what I'm saying is that I can't believe that there are enough people who are that price sensitive who would want to get into the Apple ecosystem with a 9 year old phone design.

It might be an antiquated physical design but Apple supports their devices for generally 6-7 years and the iPhone SE is running the same processor as the iPhone 13 Pro. Heck even the iPhone SE 2nd gen became the best-selling smartphone after the iPhone 12, they sold over 21 million units of the 2nd iPhone SE…in one year. More than any other flagship device from other mobile manufacturers, even the Galaxy’s…

Please always keep a home button phone in the lineup!

It’s an essential design element for my older relatives.

Obviously Apple have the data that we don't and I'm assuming that the SE is solving multiple very different customer needs.

Whereas their regular products likely have far simpler customer needs i.e.

Pro - 'I am a pro' or 'I think of myself as a pro photographer (prosumer) and / or 'I just want the best'.
Regular iPhone - 'I just want a new iPhone, I don't need the best but I can afford the regular version of a premium product/brand'.

I think that there is a place for the iPhone 6 design - especially for seniors, who don't want to learn a new UI.

But at this point in time, I'm not sure who the iPhone SE is actually for.

If it is for seniors, an iPhone 8 SE would make more sense (bigger screen).
My mother, a senior, prefers the home button design (for the same reason Jobs pitched it no less: she can always easily get back to the home screen if she gets lost in an interface) and a smaller phone FWIW. She just makes the text huge on everything lol

The iPhone SE is just not worth it.

You can buy a refurbished iPhone 13 mini 128Go in mint condition for the same price as the current 128GB SE model. Why would you consider the SE instead?

The iPhone SE 1st gen was great. But ever since, it just hasn't been worth it.
The SE was never worth it to purchase directly from Apple. I bought a boxed 3rd Gen 128GB for 350 euros from a reseller in my area. That price was unbeatable.

Just checked on one website and for 400€, you can have a refurbished iPhone 12 mini 128GB in perfect condition. Already bought in that store myself, so when they say "perfect", it is. Don't get me wrong, if you're happy with you SE, great. But for the same price, the iPhone 12 provides you with OLED display, Super Retina, better contrast/max nits, a much bigger screen, Face ID, 2 better cameras, newer overall design. I probably miss a thing or two.

IMHO, this is more appealing than the SE.

I actually used a third-party refurbished iPhone 12 64GB before I switched to the SE 3. The former was in mint condition with 100% battery and cost me €50 more, but it ended up being a botched repair job. The warranty the store offered sucked.

The convenience of Apple’s one-year-warranty remains unmatched. I’ve received multiple replacements in the Store without any sort of difficulty. I’m SO tired of the SE design, but I’m scared to switch back again to an unofficially refurbished iPhone.

Fair. Sorry it was a bad unit with poor after service. I don't know where you live, but in my case everything was perfect. But to be honest, I cannot say anything about the warranty since I didn't need to use it.

Put my name on the list for a mini sized iDevice with no FaceID and under the screen TouchID.
Oh yes! I have the iPhone SE 1st gen bought in mint condition 1 year ago. The form factor is so great. It's even smaller than the iPhone 12/13 Mini.

For what I do, it's the perfect phone. The only issue I now have is that it's limited to iOS 15. So I can't even buy AirPods Pro and have all their features. I mean, these are just earbuds, why would that require iOS 16 at least? It doesn't. I wish Apple could still provide some simple new features that do not require a specific hardware on their older iOS versions.

TouchID on the side button is OK too imo. Under screen TouchID seems to be higher end.

I still use it.

Personally, with the front camera just a blob, it would be an screen device (I'd even forego a front facing camera for privacy reasons).

On the side is fine.
