If they aren't changing the form factor to make it significantly thinner, there is zero good reason to remove the headphone jack. Zero.
Exactly. What a freaking joke. From the article:
If there really is a so-called iPhone SE 2 on Apple's roadmap, Kuo expects it will have few outward-facing changes.

HUGE bummer if Apple removes the headphone jack. At this point they'd just be removing it to remove it. Pft.

I was honestly considering this for my next phone. I have a 5.7" phone right now and sometimes long for my old iPhone 5. Loved that form factor. We'll see.

Hello, 2012.
What a dumb idea to release a fourth version of iPhone 5.
This proves Apple is not a forward thinking progressive company post Steve Jobs’ death.
Release something innovative in 4 inch size.
Very sad.

I prefer the smaller size, and spent a week with an SE after having used 6/6S for 2 years, and this confirmed my preference. Only thing that stopped me from using an SE is lack of water resistance. Currently using an iPhone 7, and I love that I can use it around my pool without putting it in a waterproof case and not worry, and I'm not going back to a phone without this. If the next SE is losing the headphone jack, I would hope that it's getting water resistance.

If they release a SE with at least IP67 water resistance, I'm very certain I'll be getting one. I would miss 3D touch if it doesn't have that, but that's not a dealbreaker.

I would rather have an A10 processor + 3D Touch than the latest processor and no 3D Touch. Obviously you want the latest processor and 3D Touch. Just saying 2nd gen SE may have 3D Touch (nothing absolutely confirmed yet) unlike the first gen SE having an A9 processor and no 3D Touch.

Love the sound of this except for the glass back--- yuck. That will shatter in a heartbeat.

Not sure if I will be able to get one when it comes out but I'll have to see! I love my SE!

I buy things that fit my use cases and do what I feel is important, not what the vocal monitory who whine online think is important. And this is really the crux of the matter - most people don't care about the headphone jack. Yet a few people continue to endlessly complain about it with the supreme arrogance that their opinion is somehow more important than the majority who don't care.

This article seems to be in disagreement on this. Apparently the majority of post 6S iPhone buyers don't care enough for it to have them drop Apple iPhones; however, it would appear that most current buyers would actually prefer that the headphone jack be included. It may particularly be negatively affecting sales outside Western markets. As to folks who complain about the lack of the jack, it's not arrogant to express disappointment with design "features" produced by a company that traditionally produced products for the artistic/creative community, which includes audiophiles who still value the wired option. This also applies to decisions to remove still useful ports from the Mac line (though they still sport the 3.5 jack).

That is a good point it’s probably not an inexpensive feature to add... I wonder if they wouldn’t be better off making the SE a little more expensive and keeping the 6s as the new cheapest option iPhone - like they have done with the iPad mini. A 4.7” for the price the SE currently retails at would probably be tempting to a wider audience, and the SE would become the device for those who really want the 4” or something a little more up to date than the 6s.

:) It's soooooo hard to figure out what goes on in the collective marketing/engineering brains at Apple!

I would like the headphone jack to persist.
- my use is in car, daily, with lightning port charging from my car charger(usb), and headphone jack to audio-in of my car stereo.

It won’t surprise me if the headphone jack does indeed disappear; in which case is there any such thing as a lightning-to-lightning-AND-headphone jack adapter splitter thing?
If not, there probably will be such an option in the near future; however, it remains a solution to a problem that didn't exist prior to dropping the jack.

There are some of us that don't judge our self worth and popularity by the style of our phone. The SE feels better, is easier to handle without dropping, fits in a pocket better, and is generally a better phone. Now, I do understand that some people spend most of their waking time on their phone taking selfies, tweeting, showing off, being popular, etc., but some of us have real work to do and just need a phone with the occasional need to visit the internet, checking with contacts, etc.

So for us it's just a phone, not a fashion statement. Yes we want it fast, the best graphics, and we want the latest security.

Perfectly said.

I guess a lot depends on when the device ships. Mainly, I was going by how the original SE came with the latest and greatest CPU (the A9).

If the SE2 came out today and followed the formula of the SE, it would have an A11. However, if the SE comes out in the fall with the rest of the new phones, then the A11 would be an even likelier choice, as the flagships would have the A12.

All in all, I have no idea what it'll have. I just won't buy it unless it has the A11. No point in buying a new phone with a 2 year old chip in my situation. I'll just get her an iPhone with the A12 then.
[doublepost=1524242307][/doublepost]Yeah, I don't care about whether the A10 has enough power or not. For me (my wife really), I just won't buy it. I'll get her the X2 or 9 or whichever she wants that has the A12 then.

EDIT - Of course, I'll get myself the X2. haha

EDIT2 - Forgot to mention that we hold onto our phones for as long as we can. We're still on iPhone6. So I want to make sure I have the latest processor so that I can have a halfway decent experience in year 4. No point in getting a device that won't age into year 4 that well.

The ony reason she'd want the SE2 is for the iPhone5 form factor. If it (IMO) can't handle year 4 well, then I'll just get her the X2/9 which should handle year 4 ... although our the iPhone6 has been absolutely crappy this last year.

Going back to the timeline (rather than going by memory), you might be right. I had thought the SE was originally a full generation behind, but that was more or less wrong (depending on how you look at the calendar. So - maybe? It would be a nice touch. The SE isn't for everyone, but there is definitely a market that really doesn't want even a 6/7/8-sized phone.

Belkin have this: https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/produ...k-kwgo-pla-btb--slid-----product-HLJV2ZM/A-UK

But I don’t think that’s what you mean?

Oh boy this is going to be a long thread. Doesn't Apple realize that not everyone can afford their wireless airpods? That dongle will get lost trust me.

I wish Apple would keep some options for folks, like a model with a headphone jack, at least until the 3.5mm jack is no longer a global standard for wired listening devices. I really don't want to use a dongle to use my professional in-ear monitors.

There are plenty of individuals who appreciate the iPhone SE and form factor. It also goes to show you How well the iPhone SE has aged fairly well. Not to mention, this rumor doesn’t “Prove” anything, because we don’t know the validity behind it. Also, why do you have to bring Steve Jobs into the equation? Completely irrelevant to the topic and you can’t speak for him directly.

I wonder if it won’t be the A11 just so they can more or less leave it alone for another 3 years? An A10 is still flagship grade at this point (compared to what android are using) but in 3 years time? I think this might have been a factor in why the iPod touch got the A8 rather than the A7 and the SE got the A9 rather than the A8 (in both cases those were the latest available processors). In the case of the latest iPad, I guess because that’s likely to be refreshed next year it’s not an issue.
Probably the biggest reason why the 2018 iPad got the A10 rather than the A11 is that the iPad Pro line is currently using the A10X, so the couldn't really put a chip in their "budget" iPad that is newer and (in many metrics at least) faster than the chip in their flagship iPad line. As you mentioned it is also likely that the iPad will continue to receive annual refreshes.
