Why would Apple release a new phone with an A10 when they are still spinning A9 chips? It will have an A9 to make up for the extra cost of the lightning port headphones.

A10 is fine. It was a significant upgrade from the A9 (greater than the A11 was from the A10).

With an A10, Apples lowest end iPhone (the SE) will still be faster than 98% of Android phonesin the world. Not bad for your “budget” device.

if its an A10 drop in, no 3.5mm jack, and thats it... no go

if its an A10 drop in, no 3.5mm jack (I hope not that'd be lame considering I'm never parting with my SE1), way better screen (mostly this), and Touch ID gen 2, id prolly be in

Once again, Apple is presented with the awesome opportunity to redefine the small form factor smartphone for mass market appeal.

Instead, uninspired expedient phony Tim Cook and lazy resigned Johny Ive will have patched together a "just enough" update out of whatever remaining inventory left.

Sad.

Yahim not getting my
Hopes up. Same everything and a10/7 camera i still wouldn’t want it

I can't figure out why Apple would remove the headphone jack if they are keeping the existing form factor, and the internal components are essentially the same.
The only possible reason I can come up with is that they want to sell more BT headphones and/or dongles. I guess it also costs less to produce the phone sans phone jack, increasing the profit margin. Apple's continuing insistence on jackless phones remains confusing. It offered no gain other than a slightly thinner form factor. If you didn't care about headphones you could still use BT without removing the phone jack. It's really a moot point, as Apple remains locked into wireless-only designs. If that is/was problematical you've likely moved away from iPhones since the introduction of the 7. I still like iOS more than Android, but not enough to sacrifice the loss of the phone jack. I'll just hold onto my 6S+ until it eventually craps out - maybe by then the phone jack really might be obsolete.

I downgraded from a 6s Plus to the SE and have loved it. I hope that Apple continue making iPhones in this size.

Here, fixed it for you.
The reason why I put "downgraded" was because the first few weeks after switching to an SE, so many people, friends and coworkers would ask why I downgraded my phone.

I guess many of them just assumed that a larger phone meant a better phone.

My only proof is logic. They aren't going to put the A11 in it with almost 6 months to go before flagship phones have the A12. iPhone X has the A11 right and SE will have it next month? No.

Apple will start differentiating their phones based partly on their phenomenal silicon.

They did it before. And did it sooner. But I agree they will dial it back this time. They don’t want anyone feeling like they get a good deal at low list price on an Apple product.

At least? The A11 is the newest processor out right now. It won't have an A11 chip.
Based on the history of the SE there is a good chance that it will. By May the A11 will be 8 months old and a new A12 will most certainly debut in the fall. Using an A11 chip means they can sell the phone for another 2+ years without update.

Considering the 6S+ has a better display, 3D touch, 2nd gen touchid, OIS, better front facing camera I’d say it was a downgrade in terms of features

I think my wife would like one, but I won't get it for her unless it has at least an A11 chip.
I just begrudgingly* updated from my SE (A9) to the red iPhone 8 (A11). Honestly see no difference in anything cpu/performance related. Note that I do not game on my phone though, which is probably the only thing that needs cpu boosts at this point (and AR gimmicks).

That said, it does seem kind of silly to ship an SE2 with a 1.5 year old cpu, even if it's perfedtly viable.

* My SE was only 16GB, and that was killing me. And I couldn't seriously convince myself to "upgrade" to a 64GB SE.
