Long press is the bane of my existence. Slight exaggeration, but it really irks me how much it slows me down. It would be fine if it only had to be done occasionally, but it doesn’t, it has to be done constantly for basic common things. 3D Touch was a better solution by orders of magnitude.

Agree. In addition to delay I also get false inputs.

This statement doesn't make sense. Apple is implementing a unique interface experience in the iPadOS compared to iOS.
You're right, it doesn't make sense from a logic standpoint, but it's absolutely correct. The reason they killed 3D touch is because they couldn't get it to work on iPad models, so they need to still move forward but figure out how to have that same functionality without the hardware. Apple says they separated iOS and iPadOS but from a configuration management standpoint they are definitely trying to keep as much commonality as possible. It's why they have still have the same version numbers and software releases are on the same day.

its really incredible iPhones can be had for $399

I remember when iPod touches were this price, and that's before times of inflation

3D Touch was vastly superior to Haptic Touch. Haptic Touch is a pita, if your finger moves slightly before pressing it ignores your press and you have to remove your finger and try again. It’s also much slower to do. To sum up it’s like a poor mans janky version of 3D Touch.

Where have all the people saying “Who uses 3D Touch” gone? I’m sure that’s what I recall people saying, and now people wish it to have never been removed 🤔

I think it was a challenge getting 3D Touch on iPad, so Apple scrapped it for uniformity.

long press does enough.

I know this is a very specific use of 3D Touch, but it’s an excellent one that I’ll miss.

The mobile first person shooter “Call of Duty” on iOS supports 3D Touch. For first person shooters with on screen support, your two thumbs act as the analog sticks of a controller. Most shooters make you take your finger off one of the screen sticks to press a dedicated shoot button. But with 3D Touch I never had to lift my thumbs. I’d move around but press a little harder in with my right thumb and it would fire my gun. Felt like a big advantage versus those without 3D Touch. It was a clever implementation that I’ll miss.

Why does it say the battery life "lasts about the same as iPhone 8"? Shouldn't the lack of 3D Touch allow for a bigger battery, like it did in the iPhone 11 Pro?

(Seems like the A13 should also improve battery life.)

This is a budget model. The removal wasn’t to free up space and add battery life, in this case it was strictly to cut cost. The battery isn’t bigger because it would cost more if it did. They probably took advantage of the A13 power savings and used that to use an even smaller battery. Wouldn’t be surprised in the teardown if this SE has a lower capacity than the 8.

Edit:

Same capacity, might get slightly better battery life with the new processor compared to the 8.

I upgraded to a 6s back in the day solely for this feature and LOVED having it in my 7 Plus, X, and Xs Max. It provided an infinitely better user experience than the current homescreen press, hold, tap, move, garbage, and overall was an excellent and unique piece of tech. The 11 was honestly a pretty significant jump from my Xs Max, but I miss 3D touch regularly.

I really am sad about 3D touch's passing. I used it all the time before the software forced it from my phone. 😭 Haptic touch is nowhere near as good. I hope 3D touch comes back to the line in the future if they can get it done cheap enough.

I really really loved 3D touch.. shame really.

Also can't believe my iPhone X has all the 3D touch hardware and sensors, yet its been forced off my phone :(

how so? it's still on my xs. i didn't upgrade to the new ios until getting the confirmation that 3d touch still works...

You can definitely still 3D touch, it's just that the iOS software itself also allows for the new 'long press' as well. Can be a bit confusing in that there are two ways to do the same thing, but sadly they were willing to live with it until they phased out the hardware, and here we are.

Try it on the weather app icon from the home screen - give it a 3D press, where you press a little harder and it'll work as intended, popping out your local forecast. And if you do a light press and hold, you'll get the same result, but it just takes a moment longer to happen.

Really a shame because the 3D press feels intentional by me, whereas the touch and hold could be that i was hesitating on what to do, or even trying to delete the app. Maybe I'm missing something myself, but 3D touch was much better, and not worth cutting costs on.

Good Riddance. I was never able to get 3D Touch to work at all - whenever I wanted to use it, it'd either ignore me or treat it as a normal press, and it'd pop up all the time when I didn't want it.

I understood it in theory. In just never worked in practice.

Same here, I understand and liked the concept of 3D touch, but in reality it didn't work well. Sometimes I'd press hard and it didn't trigger 3D touch, which killed all hope for me so I gave up on it. iOS was plagged with "input-blocking" which interfered with 3D-touch. Some input-blocking issues were fixed but it's too little too late.

This is an example of what I mean:

ok, why are so many people saying that 3d touch has been removed from models that have the 3d touch hardware?.. did you guys check your settings?...

My 6s was a bit spotty on 3dt. However my max on 12 was flawless with respect to 3dt.
