No. The YouTube user license agreement states that they can distribute your videos through any media channels they see fit without need to pay royalties.
Check it out here.
Yup, if you want to get paid, you use Google Video instead.

In my opinion this is the most sell-out thing Apple has ever done. What is the point of YouTube? I know the philosophy, but the actuality falls well short. Apple: Get films on iTunes in the UK and stop messing around with triviality. Then again I guess this YouTube stuff will appeal to business men of the kind that sit playing solitaire all day long.

iPhone the first major flop for Apple this decade.
Very interesting. The recent iPhone ads have actually been very, very good. I only wish more Mac ads would be as good.
Exactly, bring me homestarrunner.com on the iPhone and i'd be much happier than youtube crap.Still wish we at least had the option for Flash on the phone. It's not the real internet if you can't see half the sites... and cmon.. flash videos are just as fun as Youtube!
Seems like a stupid ad... then again, I havent really been liking these new iPhone ads, they are kinda annoying. That music is terrible! At least the switch ads had decent music.
haha that'd be so sad.Let's all post YouTube videos of ourselves watching the ad.
That would be pretty nice... especially if you could preview content as well...Does the iPhone have a way to directly access the iTunes store from the phone ? (when connected via WiFi or EDGE).
Can't even do that (technically) on a computer... doubt that will be possible.More on topic, it would also be great if you could download youtube videos directly onto the iPhone...
Couple of issues:
1. Only "original content" - meaning nothing of any interest, none of the cool stuff. Plus, what happens if YouTube gets taken down due to copyright concerns?
2. Probably going to have to pay out the butt to access that sort of content anywhere but at your home wireless hub (and maybe the bookstore).

I think I know the answer to my question already, (I think the answer is no) but I'll ask anyways....
Does the iPhone have a way to directly access the iTunes store from the phone ? (when connected via WiFi or EDGE). It would really increase impulse buying I think. Just imagine I am walking through a store and hear a song I like, I could go hmm I like that, click on the iTunes store and bling, I'm groovin' to my new tunes. or another example, I'm sitting at the airport an hour early and don't want to pull out my laptop (or maybe one of the hundreds of other reasons I ma not have a laptop with me.) I could pull out my iPhone, buy some songs, or a movie or two for the flight. Then when I get home and "synch" with iTunes on my computer it would copy my newly purchased content into my iTunes library.
This would be the death of many peoples wallets (and would certainly shrink mine).

A downloaded YouTube video, anytime you want to play it. Pretty cool, huh?
That is an awesome tip. Works like a charm.
disclaimer: i have no first hand knowledge.
flash will be available for the iphone by the end of the year. if you look at what apple is doing, or more accurately what they're not doing -- they're basically shutting out anything outside their control -- no flash, no sdk, no additional plug-ins.
- the next update to QT, possibly around June 29, will support current flash playback.
There is ZERO flash on the Apple website. None. Anything cool that you think is flash, is actually QT.
cjewby, actually you can.
that makes sense... but why would they have pushed so much for the cs3 release... seems like there's a healthy relationship between the two companies. maybe that's just what they want us to think though.I have a theory. And it goes with the whole YouTube QT thing. First, YouTube is now going to put it's whole library in h.264. Apple has gotten them to do it. The AppleTV is h.264 YouTube as well. Pretty soon, all YouTube will be QT. No more flash. Apple's QT is a complete competitor for Flash. Not just as video, but as interface design as well. There is ZERO flash on the Apple website. None. Anything cool that you think is flash, is actually QT. My guess is Apple would like to be where flash is. So, they won't support flash. BUT - the next update to QT, possibly around June 29, will support current flash playback. They may also introduce an app to more easily create interactive QT content. This is their plan imho. To go head to head with flash. They are slowly and surely taking out many of Adobe's apps. My guess is they don't trust Adobe and Adobe doesn't trust them. With the whole FCP and Premiere bad blood, and now Aperture and Lightroom you've got to wonder. The two are actually more in competition than Apple and MS.
