The same 8MP Camera???? Are you sh*tting me?

The S3 on average already takes better pictures than the 5 and this is their update coming in June/July. You just have to shake your head. :(

So much for the draw of it taking better than average pictures. By June/July let alone Christmas the 5S will be soundly beaten by the competition.

They're just not trying anymore..

I somewhat agree that they need to do more, however the iPhone 5 takes better pictures than the S3 in the comparisons I've seen. Plus it's got to be hard to put a better camera in a phone than that today

You'll want to look at getting a prepaid service. I'm not familiar with the details, but from what I understand you can get voice service without needing a data plan. Try searching the forums. :apple:

Thanks for the tip. I'm familiar with the prepaid. The thing is that my family and I move as a single organism when it comes to phone plans. We've been on a family plan for a long time and it seems like we'll continue to be for quite a while. My sister is grandfathered into unlimited data with her iPhone; although, she doesn't even use 2 GB a month. The rest of us just pay the $10/month for voice lines. So, I could add on $30/month for a data plan for myself, but I honestly wouldn't use it. I'm always around WiFi and am pretty much a homebody. As such, I haven't upgraded my phone since around 2008 since Verizon has only come out with worse, more expensive dumphones since, and upgrading would only further extend our family's contract, which I believe is probably up this summer as long as none of us renew. We'll probably look into new options then, but I'm not sure if pre-paid would be cheaper for our entire family. I'll check into it, though. I would like to get a new phone. In the old days I did every 2 years, but it hasn't been worth it for me since the iPhone era, since I don't want the data.

I like how people complain about Apple not making previous iPhone versions obsolete enough.

Call me skeptical that it would actually work smoothly. Maybe it would be cool for people who don't have use of their hands. For me using my finger to scroll up and down works just fine.

yes, if implemented correctly, scrolling with your eyes may be very useful. I don't think its a gimmick. Increasing specs are gimmicks. Adding useful features aren't. This may be a useful feature as is fingerprint scanning. When implemented correctly, fingerprint technology is very useful and secure.

350-450 $ for a "low cost" is still a lot of money.

Okay, we're supposed to understand : "low cost" compared to a "normal" Apple price, but there are many questions already.

First, will it be available in all countries?
Then, will the 350 model be an interesting deal, or will it be limited in such ways that you'd have to buy the 450 model to be really satisfied? At almost 500 $, it's no longer a cheap alternative.

I know, I'm complaining before the thing even exists :p, but we're used to expect excellent stuff from Apple, even at relatively low prices. The specs on the table aren't confirmed at this point. So if the "low cost" phones are only OK, there won't be any reason not to buy much cheaper phones from the competition.

Yawn... Zzzzzz. When is apple coming out with a model that has larger screen?

If they use the same form factor as the 5 in the 5S... man... it's the beginning of the end for Apple. It may be a few years, but the rollercoaster has hit the top of the hill.

How can they not read the writing on the wall? Mix it up. Do something! Rattle the planet with a new design.

I'm getting it as soon as its available!! I've had an iPhone since the 3G and been pretty happy with the iphone!! iOS is very very stable and has always been and will probably always be.
Sure it doesn't have as much customization capabilities as android but that's where apple is still winning the race. Slow and steady features with every iOS update to make sure everything fits with the current OS and is easy, simple, and elegant!!
Sure some android phones look pretty but then I use them and miss iOS and its ecosystem right away!!

The iPhone has one thing that android doesn't and that is its great ecosystem that just works.....

When I think of my iPhone 5 or any current smart phone
I ask myself what more do I need or want.
For me the screen size and resolution is peaked for my needs.
Although a faster processor and more memory is always nice,
I have 64gb and with the cloud really don't even use all that I have.

as probably most of you, I consider myself more techy than the average person.
Most people that I work with will come to me with their gadget issues. So for the average person the technology as far as memory and speed is more than adequate and I doubt they care .

What can sell more phones is improved software! An improved Siri, maps, to do list, calendar , mail , web browser would be awesome.

Form factor changes could sell more phones. I love the thinness of the 5, love the LTE and improved screen and speed of the device but aesthetically IMO
the iPhone 4 was more sexy.

I think for many user style/looks is more important than hardware.

The one techy feature non tech people care about and use all the time is the camera and Video. The camera is decent but there is plenty of room for improvement especially white balance.

me personally would take a phone with a better battery life rather than a bigger screen than we already have. Just talking to people using either galaxy and iPhone one of the most commonest complaints is battery life. Apple you want blow Samsung out of the water? make a phone with a battery life 4x as long as current models. Than slam it down the competitors face with ads showing people using their iPhone along side Samsung users looking for a place to charge their phone. Have a Samsung user ask an iPhone user to borrow their phone because the battery on the Galaxy 3 is dead.

Now a little side note, : What really bums me about Apple is not that they are not innovating because they are, it seems to me they have lost their killer instinct. I always felt under SJ, Apple's goal was to make the greatest products in the world but also to destroy the competition. Tear them apart! Now I feel like Apple has become very complacent. Steve's presentations use to call out the weakness in other products and than let you know how Apple's solved the problem other devices haven't. Now every presentation is boring and monotonous with the same mantra " Apple's goal is to make the best products for their users" yawn. or " we have 10 zillion apps where are competitors only have 1 zillion" This is looking back not forward. What ever happened to their mantra skate to where the puck is going not to where it is now.

Samsung and google spend over 4x more money on advertising than Apple.
Believe me, in their minds they are at total war with Apple and realize how gullible the general public is to the "cool factor". They realize Apple in the past was considered the coolest, and the best way to bring Apple down is to tarnish their image as passé and they have been brilliant at doing this. All the while I feel like if you were to walk into Apple's advertising department you would see cob webs and people snoring behind their desk enjoying their 10 course meal being digested. The recent ads have been lame, pathetic and boring. IMO, technology wise there is very little difference between Apple and Samsung at this point, I mean Samsung and android have caught up to Apple, they really haven't done anything amazing above and beyond, yet look how through advertising they have convinced so many, that Apple is behind and no longer cool.

I am also very tired of people ridiculing us posters who say "if Steve was here"
Well yes Steve is unfortunately no longer with us, yet this is why as a stock holder I am very nervous. See, not only was Steve a visionary with great taste choosing products that we all love but he was also one of the most feared CEO from the business standpoint. He was a ruthless competitor, i feel its this relentless spirit to be the best and most successful at any cost, which may have left Apple. IMO in the face of such a still strong financial company its this loss of spirit that is palpable and is what is resulting in Apples stock weakness.
I would love to see Tim Cook acknowledge this is a war, there is a lot of money at stake and Apple plan's on dominating. It is just so important to expand your market in these early days of mobile computing i.e..
smart phone and tablets, reason being once your locked into the platform its hard to switch as you have already made a financial investment into apps and cloud not to mention the time learning the system.

Why? I think it would be great to scan my finger to unlock my phone. Faster and nobody can see/guess my code.

The motorola atrix had that and it was really more of a gimmick. I would much rather see better camera options and even a better screen, not to say the iPhone 5's screen isnt good but a higher res display would be pretty awesome.

And android has been the same for 4 years. What's your point? You want widgets and themes? :/

Android has evolved dramatically in the last four years.

As an OS, it's went from an iOS knock-off that only a geek would want (Cupcake/Donut/Eclair/Froyo/Gingerbread) to a screwed up tablet version (Honeycomb) to a decent iOS competitor (Ice Cream Sandwich) to a good iOS alternative (Jelly Bean).

They've been a fierce competitor releasing Google alternatives to AirPlay (Miracast), AirPrint (Google Cloud Print), iTunes Match (Play Music) and Siri (Google Now/Voice Search).

It's been a wild four years. They've kept up with Apple (and surpassed them in some ways with Google Now).

I miss the down-vote button... Ever since it went away, the top comments have always been a lot more misinformed. This article is no exception.

If you want to call that an upgrade go ahead, I have the 5 and not much different. They need to stop with the S model phones, they are not the only good game in town anymore, time to produce a solid phone every year Apple.

That's the most sane post i've seen thus far!

I don't know why there's so many negative comments about the finger print scanner. If its integrated into the home button and can unlock the iphone quicker by its owner that's awesome.

Contracts in the US are mostly two years. Non-contract phones cost an insane amount of money for most of us. Therefore, why not do "major" upgrades every two years?

Below $300, unless Apple has something more significant up their sleeve (iPhone with a larger display???). I don't think a retina mini and slightly lighter iPad 5 will help the stock much either.

What's the big deal about a phone with a larger display? Is Apple just copying what everyone else is doing going to help the stock?

5s will come. But they will change the design and maybe shake up the planet with 6, but then a year later come out with iphone 6s and keep that same new design of the 6 but with improvements .

Exactly. You speak the truth :). New design every two years is fine in okay with iPhone x then iphone Xs then followed by new iphone model
