Not a big fan of where iPod nano design has been the past year, and this redesign doesn't inspire any new confidence in me. Blah.

I feel the same way. I didn't really like the first generation because of the small capacity and how prone to scratches they were. I loved the second generation as 4GB, for someone who syncs as often as I do, was perfect and the colors were nice and it was unbelievably small. The third generation was just plain ugly and went back to that scratch prone design. Yuck. The next one just looks (if the pictures are to be believed) wonky. I need to find a brand new blue second generation iPod nano...

Personly I think all the ipods need a refresh not just a new cover peace or colors. We NEED a brand new breath taking design thats light years ahead of all others.. The ipod has had the same design since, well 2001. Small screen up top round controls on bottom. I know its a signature design, but come on, lets have some invention!

Another thing I'd like to see in iTunes 8: the ability to sync my ALAC iTunes library into MP3 on my iPod, on the fly i.e. no permanent, redundant MP3 copy of my ALAC library.

If the multitouched iPhone/iPhod touch isn't some newly designed invention - then what is?

The design moves more and more to software level, as buttons and controls are contextually presented by software. So, for a given size of the device itself, the design philosophy ought be pretty simple: The larger (the screen), the better. Of course, a few millimeters frame will be needed around the screen, for sturdiness and so that you not can comfortably hold the thing in your palm without obscuring something onscreen with your fingers. But essentially, the whole front side should be covered by as much screen as possible. The back side isn't really that important anyway. So there isn't so much designing to do in hardware anymore, as it was some years ago...

(anyone disagree?)

I totally agree. I think I've said before that Apple is stabilizing their hardware designs and focusing more on software change.

what are the chances the macs haveing a 1080p HD screen when and if blu-ray hits? (for you Noobs out there, yes they have 1080 computers now)

The 24" iMacs and high-res MBPs already have a 1920x1200 resolution which is more than enough for a 1080 video.

Itunes 8

That doesn't really look like a new Nano to me, it just seems too quasi-futuristic for Apple. I can see Blu-Ray support coming in Snow Leopard, but I can't see what revolutionary feature will be added to iTunes in version 8.

I would expect there to be at least one if not two major updates involved with iTunes. First, HD rentals/purchases on the computer and minor interface changes as would be characterized by the major number change. And if we were lucky/unlucky bluray playback as demanded by mpaa.

Dont hold your breath, the first just seems a little logical.

But then there is this hype that Apple will switch to 16:9 displays.

By the way, when do you ladies and gentlemen see Mac OS 10.5.6 being released?
An realistic prediction please. :D
