Originally discovered on iPod Touch Fans (and also on 9to5), it appears that the new 4th generation iPod Touch actually contains a motor that allows it to vibrate. The motor is shown in the FCC tear down photos of the device.

Apple notes the vibration alert in their iPod Touch Accessibility page:
If somebody wants to start a video call with you, you’ll receive an invitation -- along with a vibrating alert -- on your iPod touch asking you to join. Simply tap Accept, and the video call begins.
Vibration has been an iPhone-only feature since the original launch in 2007. The vibration has been used for silent alerts as well as a form of force-feedback in many iPhone games.

Shipped?

Are people starting to get their new iPod Touch? I am just wondering where the sources are getting the chance to see the internals of the iPod Touch.

This is a nice feature. I noticed on a phone that everytime you touch the screen and clicked a name, link, etc. it would vibrate. It would be cool if the iPod Touch could vibrate for everything you touch.

Yeah that's called "haptic feedback." My opinion is that it has to be done very well to be useful or helpful, and it's not a feature on non-jailbroken iDevices.

i have always said to my self wouldnt it be nice to get vibration on games and what not on the ipod touch. hopefully it will be used on apps like gun apps and other stuff not just for face time alerts(prob not though). i have already pre-ordered mine.

Gaming is an obvious good use of this, but it's also great for silent email notification, also a use taken from iPhone. The iDevice new email sound is heard at least 3 times in each of my classes.

Hopefully you can activate it for other alerts too. Would love to have my iPod vibrate to let me know an eBay auction is ending soon etc.

Let's see...over 800 posts about a change to the iTunes icon, and not even a score yet of posts regarding a seriously important unannounced feature to the iPod Touch.
I hope Apple decides to give the iPad all the features of the Touch so developers can write apps that are more universal in how they work/respond.

Leave the zillions of flavors of Androids to the competitions.

That's awesome! Vibration AND a camera finally (things that should have been there a long time ago, I think), I might actually upgrade from my 1st gen now! :D

This generation is the most significant change in hardware since the launch. I bought and sold a 2nd gen to end up keeping my 1st gen, and picked up the 4th gen. I'm really excited for this Touch to show up on my front step. $229 for an entry point, on this hardware, just makes me go:eek:!

I'm unsure if the thing pointed is actually the vibration motor (are they usually directly attached to the circuit board like that? I would think they are mounted to the case somehow). I'm pretty sure it does have vibration, but I'm not sure if that's it.
