In all seriousness though, I'm sure there will be an iVibrator. Maybe I can make a quick buck that way :D

Isn't there already? There's like five in the Android market.

...nothatiwouldknow >.>

(Seriously though, I wonder if that would pass by the Puritan App Approval Process)

I'm unsure if the thing pointed is actually the vibration motor (are they usually directly attached to the circuit board like that? I would think they are mounted to the case somehow).

Good point, in fact "MacRumors" may have jumped the gun here as, if you read the whole thread (which currently ends here: http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=309080&page=25 ) you will see that despite the quote on Apple's own spec page the inclusion of vibration is far from certain. Many contributors on that forum agree that the object indicated in the picture is unlikely to be a vibration motor because of its appearance and placement and is more likely to be some other, unidentified component. Furthermore, when posters have asked Apple's own "experts" about the issue, they have received a mixed response with some confirming and others emphatically denying that the new iPT4 has vibration at all. The quote on Apple's own spec page has been largely dismissed as a copy/paste error from the corresponding page for the iPhone 4.

This is not to say that there definitely isn't vibration on the new iPod; only that its existence has yet to be confirmed...even by a consensus of Apple employees themselves.

it's closer being an iPhone, especially with MiFi mobile router. the least thing i use on my iPhone 4 is make calls and sms.

I'm always amazed at how these things get smaller and thinner yet they contain more and more hardware :D

Also, a motor of this size is amazing.

I'm glad the iPod Touch is getting a vibrating motor, it is really becoming an iPhone without the phone. And the GPS. But everything else is there.

Yup, it's pretty cool. Slightly disappointed that it didn't have a built in digital compass though, this was included in the standard iPad so assumed it would be in the iPod touch too. Not a massive deal, but its useful for seeing what direction you're facing in Google Maps and necessary for some augmented reality apps.

So, what are the differences now between an iPhone and an iPod Touch?
  1. No 3G radio;
  2. Worse camera;
  3. No GPS;
what am I missing please?

For one, there's no inbuilt compass . . . and ~
The supposed retina screen doesn't use the same ips panel.

I can actually list you "8" things that the ipod is missing, but that's up to you to find them all.
Just remember that the iphone 4 is almost 3 times the price to purchase outright.

4. No LED flash
5. No noise-cancelling microphone (at the top)
6. No SIM slot/card
7. No glass back (stainless steel instead)

I'm sure there are few others, but those are the most obvious to me (besides the ones you already mentioned).

Somebody somewhere hinted that the 'Retina Display' in the new iPod Touch might not have IPS... I really want to know :)

EDIT: although it might actually be MORE trouble for Apple to support/get supplies for TWO different displays.

Seriously it takes 3 weeks to get an ip4 in the apple store and i think the trouble they are having to keep up with the demand is because of the ips display. so i would be amazingly suprised if the it4 had an ips itself. But come'on guys the hardware is still amazing and for only 229, remember two weeks ago you would have bought a 2g vor 199....

So difference between iPhone and iPod touch is now literally only GPS and Phone parts?

Why don't they just add 3G aswell then I would feel completely ripped off for buying an iPhone... since I could buy a 10 dollar phone instead.

So for $40 a month I could get unlimited data from virgin,use the touch as a phone, and have it vibrate when a call comes in?

:D Awesome!

8. No contract or dealings with crappy cell providers.

The more Apple puts into the iPod Touch, the more I feel that getting rid of the cell provider is the future. It depends on things like wimax though, i guess. But I see the iPhone being relegated eventually.

The contract of course.

Also:

1. Longer battery life.
2. No Glass back.
3. Higher flash capacity.
4. Usually more RAM resources.
5. Freedom from people trying to rag on you about AT&T, even though AT&T is fine for many users.

The only disappointment for me is the lack of GPS. An iPod could be an excellent backup device for GPS users.

As to cameras I'm not thrilled with cell phone cameras at all. So it will be interesting to see what this sensor does for us. Ideally it would have good low light performance. Some are dismissing the video camera but it might be a smart move on Apples part. It keeps the device thin for one. Plus video is more popular than ever, if the sensors quality is good people will put it to good use.

Have you had a look at the Apple iPod Touch Accessibility page linked to in the OP of this thread?

That's no "copy/paste error" on a minor specifications page, that's a key accessibility feature designed for use of sign language by the deaf. This is one of the cornerstones of Apple's strategy to implement FaceTime as the new standard of videoconferencing software.
