Apple is really on a roll with the product updates.

And to think, no keynote required. The tech sites are doing all the advertising on behalf of Apple. ;)

Out of curiosity, why an eSim? Just for data, or do you want this to be a cheap iPhone?
For data, iPad mini too big to carry around. Plus who makes phone calls any more? 5.5” screen iPod touch with LTE would be the killer device.

I'd guess fake. Because even if it didn't have FaceID, there would still be a front facing camera of some type for FaceTime calls, so there would either be a notch or thick bezel. And if there's no FaceID, then there needs to be a home button, doesn't there? I guess it could be an on screen software button. And I can't see doing away with headphone jack on something aimed at kids. I guess they could include the dongle.
The bezels look thick compared to the iPhone lineup. Maybe a notchless FaceID solution?

I just ordered an iPad Mini yesterday...I know they're different devices, but my main usage is very casual, and I might have gotten an iPod Touch if they announced it along side the Mini.

I might actually consider getting one, even though I have a perfectly fine iPhone. Depends on the storage-to-pricing ratio.

I like "the thing that plays music" to be as separate as possible from "the thing I use to do work". I have looked into other dedicated digital music players and from a UI/UX perspective none are as good as Apple's. (Additionally, Sony's Walkman - the best alternative to an iPod out there on balance IMO - is incredibly expensive for a device with low in-built storage that will largely be used in non-ideal sonic environments for non-reference listening. Apple's devices hit the best balance of sound quality, price, and user experience).

I know that the above puts me in a very small minority.

This is nonetheless exciting news to me because I have a strong affinity for iPods and am very glad to see that they aren't quite dead yet.

I'm in that minority group with you.

I keep my iPod Classic for music and the iPhone XS Max for everything else.
I'd certainly get a new iPod if the storage was a lot bigger.

If they keep the same size and include TouchID, then I might get one (with personal hotspot & 3G Apple Watch) to replace my SE

If Apple keeps updating hardware all week they will guarantee that I don't care about their actual event coming up, lol

This perfectly encapsulates Apple’s priorities as a company. They’re quietly getting all the “boring” hardware updates out of the way so they can focus on their TV service. Very sad.

As someone who uses the ipod touch as my main travel camera(have gone phoneless the last few years)...i would love to see apple give it a camera that rivals the new iphones...but i doubt thats gonna happen. A bigger screen with slimmer bezels & face ID would be cool, as would usb-c....lol...but again...not bloody likely.

Do people even use the ipod touch for music anymore? I don’t even think kids use ipod touches like this article suggests. Most parents i know get their kids cheap smartphones so they can keep in touch with them.

So Apple could really do something weird & wild with the ipod touch. Something to set it apart from being just an iphone without cellular. Give it 3 or more lenses and the biggest sensor. Make it the best ios camera available. Go crazy! Lol. But i don’t think Apple has any plans to do anything special. Just a basic processor bump to keep it going for a few more years until it’s discontinued like the rest of the ipods.

I don’t even know why i commented. Lol. I must be having fever dreams from this flu.
