Looks like it would be the perfect day to announce new AirPods and possibly even Apple's headphones. iPad Monday, Mac Tuesday, Music Wednesday. If not, then the week still has 2 more days. AirPods and AirPower on Thursday and Friday?

Product/product family releases every day leading up to the big reveal would be cool and perhaps a good way to build buzz around a service that's Apple worse kept secret in years. Plus, while all these updates are welcome, none so far are revolutionary or as exciting as new iPad Pros or MacBook Air (for example).

It would also mean a more streamlined keynote BUT lots of goodies for tech journalists to try out (if March 25th is just about service that will launch . . . in the fall, what else are they doing to do with the rest of the day?)

Apple may have plans to announce a new seventh-generation iPod touch in a press release as early as tomorrow.

MacRumors received a tip earlier this month claiming that Apple would announce new iPads, iMacs, and iPods on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week, and so far this information has proved to be accurate with the arrival of new iPad Air and iPad mini models on Monday and an iMac refresh today. Naturally, we now expect Apple to introduce a new iPod touch tomorrow.

If accurate, this week's series of hardware announcements suggest that Apple may be clearing its docket to primarily focus on its widely expected news and video services at its March 25 event at Steve Jobs Theater.

Last month, oft-reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he expects a new iPod touch with an upgraded processor to launch in 2019, while developer Steve Troughton-Smith uncovered references to a new iPod touch model in iOS 12.2 code back in January, so there is evidence to suggest a refresh is upcoming.

The iPod touch is certainly due for an update. The current model was released back in July 2015 with a 4-inch Retina display, A8 chip, 8-megapixel rear camera, and a home button sans Touch ID. To ensure the iPod touch remains capable enough to receive iOS updates for at least a few more years, an upgrade to an A10 Fusion or A11 Bionic chip would be appropriate.

Beyond that, it is unclear if the new iPod touch would have many new features, as the device has become a niche product used mostly by children and some developers as an affordable testing device. All other iPods were discontinued in 2017.

The current iPod touch remains available in six colors with 32GB and 128GB of storage for $199 and $299 respectively.

If they update the iPod Touch, why not the SE?
Good question.

One of the reasons I got my iPhone SE last year (instead of just getting another Android) was because it replaced my old iPod touch with its terrible battery life.

It was/is my first iPhone and I'd definitely save up for an SE2 if one came on the market. I run a lot and I can't be toting a whopping great phone about with me on my runs. The SE is ideal for me.

I love my iPod 5Gen, (good size, long battery life, headphone jack...)
the only real problem is that it's only iOS9... that's the real problem with Apple;
your devices work fine, but the software 'updates' make them useless for half the apps!

There is no such thing as an iPhone SE2.
(He means the iPhone SE2 that they cancelled like a year ago)

It is good to know that Apple is working on and releasing products that virtually nobody cares for.

What people dont want a phone but an iPod with display these days?

Me. I ditched my phone 3 years ago.

I don't know about streamlined. I can see Apple spending an hour talking about TV and an hour about News. These are both status quo shattering services in each of their industries.

I know that this comment will attract jeers from the critics but when we look back in retrospect, Apple TV and Apple News will transform each of these industries, if not alone in themselves, they'll start the ball rolling.

If Apple is clearing the schedule, it's because they need the time for their TV and News announcements.

Is it too much to ask for to get iPhones in these colors?! Sick of grey/white/silver/black. (And no, I'm not buying a lesser iPhone to get colored backs)

Maybe get a skin from D Brand? If you don't use a case at least it makes the phone less slippery as well.

I honestly had no idea they were still selling iPods! I had one around 2007, I think....

EDIT: I just checked their website, the top nav bar... no mention of iPod whatsoever.

If they update the iPod Touch, why not the SE?

Good question. An SE 2 would be far more useful as well. I would think the iPod Touch target market is even more niche than an SE 2 would be. Other than developers I'm not sure why anyone with a smartphone would want a ipod touch.

Duh, PRICE!! iPad mini LTE $529, so iPod Touch LTE would have to be even less. Hence MUCH MUCH less than equivalent iPhone.

OK, so back to my question, despite your "Duh" - do you really see Apple selling two products; an iPhone and an iPod that has identical spec in everything except it doesn't do voice calls, and having the massive price gap between them that you're hoping for? An iPhone XR will set you back £750. How much do you think that's going to come down by just removing the voice call function? It's got to drop by £250 just to be comparable with the LTE iPad mini (and still more than the current iPhone 7 which gives you that connectivity). I can see the appeal of what you're wishing for, I just don't see it ever happening. Happy to be proved wrong though.

The buy page for both new iPads seems to be broken. I was going to order one now and just get a blank page on all my devices.
I had one in my cart but it went unavailable when I went back to it.

Unless the new iPod Touch has a larger screen and eSim, it’s a non-starter.
What is similar as a music player with gaming abilities?

I do occasionally put skins on my phone, but it always ends up with rough edges over time. Plus, I prefer the glass back. (Actually ordered a new bright blue skin today)

Buy a case... in any color...
I don't do cases. The iPhone looks too nice to cover up.

I hear ya. I hate cases as well but with how expensive phones are now and Apple Care deductibles I've finally went back to a case when I bought my X. Hopefully the rumor of Apple doing a more matte tactile coating on future iphones come true and that it also doesn't wear off easily.

Really excited for this.

I’m hoping for a 256GB iPod touch to equip with a FiiO DAC/AMP to be a music player.

Though now I’m wondering is an iPad mini would work better with more battery life and an easier to use music app die to the larger but still small screen.

Hmmm.
