If nothing else changed besides the capacity, its a pretty lame update... well, least it doesn't make my 30 gig look so bad

They should have moved the 10 GB to $199 and kept the 30 GB.
Then the pricing could be
10=199
20=299
30=399
40=499

...This confirms what I've always suspected -- that some of the products Apple sells as "refurbs" are in fact new overstocked units.

Refurbs from what I understand are "anything that comes off the factory line and doesn't go straight to your door. So if I bought two computers, but returned one without opening it, it becomes a refurb. That very thing happened to me about four years ago when Gateway screwed up my order and sent me two of the same machine. When I returned it, I was told it would be a refurb. Maybe someone just bought your iPod but returned it for whatever reason.

sniff, sniff. I just bought a 15GB from the Aspen Grove CO store two weeks ago. I almost bought the bigger one, but it was a bit too much for me. I'm glad the upgrade was capacity only!
Well it would be nice to be able to record sounds if you're into that sort of thing. I use a portable DAT player.. however they sell for about $800.00... Macs are great for music.Originally posted by zedwards
Um, dude, you need to get out more often.
True.... I have 600 cd's in my collection and if you average about 7 songs per cd, which I think is a conservative number, you'd end up with 4200 songs.... I will eventually put all my music into my Mac and then the iPod. Plus my sister has about the same amount of music, but we listen to completely different stuff, so I'm sure I'll connect to her Mac at some point and dl some of her tunes; which I'd never buy the CD's. That would come to about 8,000 songs. Then I have some friends with Macs and that will only grow.Originally posted by ewinemiller
Maybe not. I was giving the guy in the cube next to me a hard time about carrying notebooks full of CDs in each day. I told him to just get an iPod or something like it. He then told me that he had about 1200 CDs (my ~360 took up about 18gig so he'd probably need about 60gig). Now I give him a hard time that he could have bought a new car, funded his kid's college fund, etc. instead of buying 1200 CDs. He might be able to fit it on one of the bigger creative labs, but he wouldn't have any room to grow. He wants to go that way eventually but he's looking for at least 80gig before he even thinks about it.
Additionally the extra capacity might not be about music, it makes a nice small portable drive. At 40gig you've got room for a little over 3 hours of DV video, lots of room for textures, and large 3D files, etc, whatever you want to tote around.

No freaking kidding! They act all "we are not a rumor site" and go around making quips at Jobs and Ive, and then they turn around and post some "recklessly unconfirmed" rumor. "recklessly unconfirmed" my foot.
You hear me, Jack?![]()

Now I wish I had listened to the guy when he also said "iMac speed bump of some proportion." D'oh!

I'm wondering about the iPod firmware though. The Apple support page lists version 2.0.1 as the latest update, but when I looked at the "About" on my iPod, it says the version is 2.0.2. Could this mean that the newer iPods have support for the new peripherals that are supposedly coming out?

I'm just pissed off that Apple can't upgrade the things that need it, like the 15" pb.

I agree. It would be nice to see these options. I think the only reason why they don't offer this is they are affraid it will canabalize other iPod sales. By this I mean, if they offered the 10GB for $199 they would lose out on the being able to sell it for $299, plus also lose on all the other models except for the 40GB. Has Apple ever heard of VOLUME sales? At $199 the 10GB would fly off the shelves resulting in more future buyers.
