People will respond to Daniel Craig, because he is like an everyman. Guys fantasize about being Bond, and seeing a guy who isn't your traditional handsome leading man, will make Casino Royale a bigger, better than the films before it.

That's my prediction anyway. Mix the edginess of Layer Cake with the suspense of Bourne Identity, a little pop soda fuzz of The Italian Job and the high-octane of Heat, and we might just have a winner.

What has Ian Flamming and his interpretation of Bond got to do with the films ;)
Well, Fleming did invent the character, with his books... ;)

And if you look at Sean Connery, (George Lazenby,) Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, they all got most of the characteristics they need, and played Bond more or less the way it should be. Just Roger Moore, even if he's hysterical in his very own way and was perfect as Simon Templar, didn't fit in as James Bond, at all... :)

THAT'S my point ;)
Well, call me old fashioned, but I think that whenever you make a movie based on a book, then you should at least be true to the characters and the intention of the book, even if you may alter the story to fit into the movie story telling format, which is different from books. The worse example (except from Roger Moore, mentioned above :p) I can think of is I, Robot, with Will Smith, witch absolutely butchered Asimov's short stories from which the movie got it's title, robotic theme and characters names (and nothing, absolutely nothing, else).

I think you misunderstand me, I don't think they represent the books well enough but think they should. Thank god i didn't read Adimov's books (my dad is a big fan of Asimov's work) because i really quite liked the film.

Jude Law?

He has a better chance playing Tinkerbell.

The man has a better chance playing a Bond Girl.

He's blonde and ugly. I doubt he'll last.

Dude. You're on the right path to a smacked bottom. He's extremely attractive (Have you seen 'Layer Cake'? Shirtless Daniel Craig is a sight to behold), he's an excellent actor (Again, 'Layer Cake', 'Sylvia', and 'Road to Perdition'), and he's different from any other Bond, something sorely needed after the disaster that was 'Die Another Day'. I imagine he'll do quite well.

Sigh... the first Bond younger than me. Had to happen sometime, I suppose. In fact, he may well be the first Bond actor younger than the James Bond series (which started in 1962). Anyone know?

He was born in '68, so yep, your fears are confirmed. You are now old. :D

Aah, then we basically agree. What's better than that. It's just that really bad (i.e. inaccurate) movie adaptations really gets on my nerves.

Sorry I didn't have my internal sarcasm filter tuned right... ;)

This man is not James Bond.

Although the way the plots keep going (read: plummeting downward into the abyss) they would be better off just rereleasing the Connery 007s.

Carol Craig told the Liverpool Daily Post that she was delighted with his appointment. “Obviously we are thrilled to bits,” she said. “It has come at a very good time in his career. He has worked extremely hard all his life and this would be his biggest populist role. It will be life-changing.”
Can't really blame her, I'm guessing that if I ever have kids, and they get awarded such big roles, I'd be gosh darn excited! Major bragging rights. :p

I'm not familiar w/ Daniel Craig though... perhaps he does look better 'in action' vs the little picture in that article.

I personally think that Roger Moore was the best 007, I think that Pierce made the role to flashy and more of an action movie then a spy movie.

To be honest id love to see what Tim Burton could do if he directed the next Bond film.

I'd rather see Burton directing traffic. Get someone like Chris Nolan who can do character-driven movies. That's what Bond needs.

Man, he does look like Bond in that picture. Maybe he'll do better than I thought. I was worried about the blonde hair, but of course they'd change that for the movie.
