I find it hilarious (and somewhat pathetic, naive, etc.) how so many people in this thread have expressed pity and sympathy for poor Apple, and hope that they will get the merchandise back. Its as if they didn't have insurance that covers theft, and even if they didn't, this wouldn't be a financial pin-prick for a company like Apple. They couldn't give 2 ***** about whether this stuff is recovered or not, and neither should you people.

And for those of you expecting the guard to interve, or spouting about some CSI fingerprinting ****.. grow the hell up.

And that Steve Jobs is personally outraged. I doubt he even knows about this and if he did he probably couldn't give a ****. He has more important things to worry about.

Wow. 31 seconds? Those dudes were monsters. Yeah, you would think that security would be a litle bit tighter considering that it is a huge target that has been successfully robbed before.

This is the second time?!?!

I thought Apple was smarter than this.

Know what they should do! Automated gun turrets!
Screw the security guard, just stick a couple infrared turret guns at the back of the store! No more robberies I guarantee it!!

AND HEY! It works for the border control problem too! Who needs a wall? Just pay someone $6.50 an hour to reload the bullets!
OMG, It's a fix-all! :p

Or maybe they could PUT THE HARDWARE AWAY AT THE END OF THE DAY!!!!

....or at least use a security lock that'll damage the hardware if it's removed incorrectly.... Or spray ink OR electrocute thieves!

Don't Taze me brah....

HEY MAN!!!!! If I were a $6.50 an hour security guard I'd totally take on 5 guys with guns! ~350 a week! That's ballah money!

cmon people, there isn't much to be done for this kind of looting...
I mean, if they had broken the lock the first time, Apple could install safer locks, but when they smash the glass, what can u do?

Most stores in Greece where i live, have a c-thru fence outside the glass...U can still break the glass if you try but u're gonna have a hard time getting in the store..

As for the products stolen, they'll never gonna sell them for 50.000 without chargers, accesories, packaging etc...

It's a stupid kind of robbery cause they won't be able to sell those under the radar, and until they sell them all they'll have been caught..

they'll return them once they figure out how much it's going to cost to replace the power supplies they left behind. I can see it now:

"Thieves return stolen Apple merchandise. Opt to rob DELL kiosk, instead".

why feel bad?

Why are people feeling sorry for Apple? For one, they charge at atleast 500% markup on everything. Seriously, they do.

Secondly, THEY SELL KENSINGTON LOCKS! This is the second robbery and nothing's locked down? Here in Toronto, everything is always locked down at every store.

I'm glad no one was hurt but c'mon people, they make more than $50 000 a day per store! Cry me a river.....

Dirty Jerzy in the house :p Anyway, it's not the first time and not the last especially with the way our economy is crapping out. I suspect we will be hearing more and more stories like that. Besides, all of this junk is mostly made in China (corporations taking advantage of 3rd world countries) and they sell it here for huge profits which in my book is a bigger theft as they are also killing the middle class here by shifting the jobs to other countries (yeah I know, low skilled labor, you need better education bla bla bla but how many times in your life can you get into college debt and how many times you can change careers?).
Also, no human life is worth dying over some plastic toys, sure the robbers committed a crime but if I was the security guard even if armed with a gun, I wouldn't risk my own life if I would see 5-6 guys robbing the place, no other sane person would either, not worth losing my own life especially for the salary most security guards in a mall make anyway. Thats what insurance companies are for.

I bought stolen Mac one time...

I bought a mac on eBay once. The theif contacted me and we went around eBay. (First Mistake)..

When I got the computer, it was in perfect condition. All brand new. Nothing to suspect.

I fired it up, turned it on and within about 30 minutes of registering it, a Sherriff called me and asked where I had bought it. I told him eBay.

Then I told him I still had the box and the shipping label was still on it. I gave him the info. He told me there was a semi-truck load of apples that were being stolen once a week and they hadn't caught them yet.

I gave him the label and he tracked the guy down, he worked at the shipping store. they never asked for the computer back.

They tracked it by the serial number.

That's good to hear. I hope that happens in this case too and they track down the thieves.

Did you have any trouble getting further service from Apple for the Mac you bought, or did that issue never come up?

At least they won't be able to use them anymore after a few hours since they didn't take the chargers. Maybe if the glass wasn't shatterable like windshields that wouldn't of happened.

And the likelihood is that all that would happen is that the first thing the thieves would do is shoot the guard. Not a good idea.

Not likely. Thieves don't want to die. If a guard has a gun in hand they would probably back away and not even attempt the robbery.

Please stop. Seriously.

No, you don't get it. Why should we baby these people who knew EXACTLY what they were doing. Break into a store, deal with an armed guard. It makes perfect sense. Convenient store clerks have access to guns often and shoot people trying to rob them, why should a store with much more $ worth of inventory be any different?

Words don't do anything, physical action is needed.

I'm just now reading this story. All I can say is... Apple, haven't you heard of the roll-up metal security doors? Or the metal accordion gates?

I have very little sympathy for Apple. Their lack of adequate security for such high end consumer products is baffling.
