I think the reason was to save costs too? Also these laptops still looked fresh compared with thick PC "laptops", even now they look quite decent, but it might be just marketing strategy what will force Apple to change at least MB's design. Steve was going for glass and aluminum, and macbook is not aluminum at all. Besides I will not expect very radical design change. For example white imac and aluminum is quite similar design. If current Imac were thicker you couldn't see that much difference. I think it is reasonable to expect more rounded MBP's might be sloped style, like MBA? Thinner front and thicker back? The question is what stays from current design? HD, DVD drive? Can you reasonably shrink motherboard? Would it be OK with customers if you put embedded battery like in MBA? If you can answer these questions I can tell how MBP will look like. From all the updates I would value weight adjustment. I wouldn't mind shaving off at least a pound...

I think that the next macbook redesign will look close to the current mba but thicker.

Hey everybody, I heard from a reliable source inside Apple which is totally untraceable to you all, that the NEW MB'S and MBP'S will be released AS SOON as TOMORROW and as late as the end of this summer!
Grrrrrr, I should unsuscribe from MacRumor...because too much Rumors :D
End of summer is fine, I am waiting for my MBP just ordered so if it changes tomorrow it will be of course a little earthquake !

It also seemed way too soon when Apple dropped the price of their iphones a few months after it released. Although I doubt as soon as June I think sometime this fall. I think Apple is going to continue to fight for the college market. They are taking over as most laptops I can see as I sit in the library typing this is either a mac or a dell. There are some HP's but they are being phased out. My college library even lends out new macbooks. I think if there is going to be any more revision this year its going to be after people get back to school maybe near december. They usually clear their stocks with the summer back to school ipod deal on laptops.

I just started reading this forum and you guys are just amazing...there is so much information available here. My daughter is starting college in the fall, and I too am in the market for a new mac for her, being that her school is considered a mac campus. I am hoping that they do release the new macbooks sooner than August. I think it would be just so exciting for every kid to go off to college with a brand new redesigned macbook...So I just keep waiting. LOL

Well, that'd be nice. Thicker to accommodate Firewire/LAN/etc. connectors and of course Superdrive, as well as to maintain the MBA's high-end niche appeal.

My Dreambook (hey, there's a name Steve!) would be a 11~12" MBP, as few compromises as possible in power/connectors, matte screen option, thin but not anemic, built for good power/mobility balance:rolleyes:...I know, I know, time to wake up:eek:

Addicting isn't it.

LOL. Indeed it is...

Now I just have to wait for the new iPhone, hopefully with an AT&T discount and a new macbook, oh but I did buy the 80G classic iPod, before I read the buyer's guide that of course says to wait. HA

Actually, it might be a great time to save a few hundred dollars and buy a refurbished Macbook or MBP. Unless she's going to be designing the new shuttle up there the current generation of Macbooks and MBP's should be more than she'll need.

Yes, very true. I am just hoping that it will be an aluminium redesign macbook, and that would be super cool. But, we will just have to wait and see...

Interestingly, I've read some reviewers say that the aluminum iMac suffers a tad from reduced wireless range because of the aluminum cladding. I don't connect wirelessly with my Alu iMac so I can't add anything there. I think I recall it being compared to a Macbook Pro. And of course no one knows how the alleged (hoped for?) future aluminum Macbooks will be affected, if at all. But since wireless connectivity is the main way to connect on college campuses, maybe you should stay with plastic. :)

That is quite interesting...Thank you so much for that information.

may 13th or may 20th for a new release?

I posed this question with little response. I think that they will release before June or before WWDC because this is normally the time they kick off the back to school campaign and each year they seem to do a Macbook update around the same time.

NEED is your best friend,
if you don't really need it, you complain,
if you need it, you buy it, you use it and you'll be changing it before you even know it!

Don't expect new MacBooks or MacBook Pros until August at the earliest.

I couldn't wait, so I bought a 15" MBP last Saturday and I've been enjoying it.

Sounds Like a 13 inch MBP... :)

I have been advocating for a true 13 inch MBP to replace the 12 inch PBG4 and I will continue to do so. I am with you and in agreement that :apple: NEEDS to make a 13 inch MBP spec notebook....:D
