im pretty sure alot of ppl know this by now, but they will update in june earliest, most likely in september tho. all macbooks will have an aluminem shell, and all computers will be converted to penryn processors. The configureations for the regular macbook are, 2.6 white, 2.8 white, and 3.06 black. all the other mbs mbps ims mmbas and ims will be put into penryn also

this s all i know

I would think that white & black mb will both have 2.6Ghz just $200 more for the tiny bit more hdd space + color black.

NEWSFLASH: They are coming out tomorrow. This was announced shortly after you opened you MBP box earlier...

Was that a joke or r u serious?
Ive been following this thread obsessivley over the past 24 hrs. The second the new MBPs come out im ordering it! Ive been waiting forever for a redesign! Im heading to college next year and i need the newest and best MBP!

There are quite a few refurbished Macbooks on Apple's Store now.

No Minis for sereval days now, though.

Well, after checking every day for a while, some finally appeared this
evening. Or perhaps some had shown up on intervening days, but had
sold out before I checked. In any case, I just bought one.

This Tuesday and next Tuesday and ...

yeah i know. i didn't think it would happen, though i do wish it would have

That sums it up perfectly for myself and no doubt for most of the other people in this thread. We all knew that it was very unlikely for a new update to arrive so soon from the last one BUT we all secretly hoped it *would* happen and be happily proved wrong! :D

I always assumed it was gonna arrive sometime in June so it would've been a pleasant surprise to arrive early but the large number of posts in this thread show how eager / curious people are to see a new update. A new design (looking more like the MBA would be fine with me), better battery life and new graphics card is what I'm hoping for. And one month isn't that long to wait, how psyhcologically hard can it be ... right?

*Gets the anti-depressants ready for next Tuesday and the Tuesday after and ....* ;)

Need the "newest and best?" What class could a college freshman possibly be taking that requires a high powered laptop? Computational Fluid Dynamics? Computer Animation? You are one advanced teenager.

As has been already said, there is no way Apple will release any laptop before Montevina. All they can do right now is change features. New enclosures but same processors? Not going to happen. What strategic advantage could apple possibly gain with such a move?

there are a lot of departments in college that require high powered laptops. ie architecture, graphic design ect... anything that has to do with editing or designing. why would he buy a low ball computer for the first year, to turn around the second year to buy the better laptop when the class comes around.i dont understand how him wanting it for freshmen year is strange. quite common if you ask me.

Jest...

Hardly call it harassing though!

Alright well maybe it will still come out sometime this week (or sometime this month). If that college deal (which I'd imagine they release it before that.. just to keep everything in "order") is going to happen again this year. It'd happen around June 3rd.

Has there been any news exactly on when the new Intel processors are going to be available though? Or is it more of just kept under secret thing?

Also, does anyone have a chart, or the specs of what exactly the new processors will be bringing that make them better then the old ones? I'm sure this already got posted, I just can't find it

I don't miss the updates game at all :D

I'm holding off until MB gets a better display (like the air) and/or chiclet keyboard for MBP.

Minor speed bumps, slightly faster video cards and chipset codenames mean nothing to me anymore.

You know I wonder if it will be next week? The past two years the updates have occurred on the 15th and 16th of May.

What do you think?
Well, high tech improvements drive customer crazys. Really insane to refresh each week the apple store page to check if the computer :
-we use since 1 month
-we have ordered last week
-we are going to order

...is now old fashion.

crazy...just crazy...

Last year was a revision only. The rumor for this year is a total redesign.

2 years ago, we didn't have iPhone June, like we do from now on...

Well the redesign rumors started since 2 years ago actually. IMHO I think the macbook/macbook pros will get a new redesign when Nehalem hits because I think it would make sense in the whole marketing strategy to change the design when a whole new architecture is due. Alot of people thought this would happen when the intel mbp were to be released but the look stayed exactly the same (I'm guessing apple didnt want to change the look because of the intel technology inside as they dont want previous customers to shy away from apple products because apple laptops are now the same as any other company out there). So after 2 years of intel making its home in the powerbook look I think Apple would give the go for the redesign with Nehalem.

Also a side note, my mind set of "think different" changed to "innovation" drastically after the intel switch as apple laptops no longer use the g4/g5 ppc chipsets which makes it "special" anymore on the hardware side. But of course I want a mac 95% of the time just for osx and now you can dual boot to windows so even better.

Forget price drops. I read somewhere on yahoo news (recently) that it will be price increases for all electronics (low dollar, manufacturing cost increases in China). So you might end up paying even more. Of course laptop sector is very competitive, so it is hard to imagine that, but I think it is still possible. You can notice gas and food prices now, so what stops increase in electronics prices?

Hey everybody, I heard from a reliable source inside Apple which is totally untraceable to you all, that the NEW MB'S and MBP'S will be released AS SOON as TOMORROW and as late as the end of this summer!

I think the reason was to save costs too? Also these laptops still looked fresh compared with thick PC "laptops", even now they look quite decent, but it might be just marketing strategy what will force Apple to change at least MB's design. Steve was going for glass and aluminum, and macbook is not aluminum at all. Besides I will not expect very radical design change. For example white imac and aluminum is quite similar design. If current Imac were thicker you couldn't see that much difference. I think it is reasonable to expect more rounded MBP's might be sloped style, like MBA? Thinner front and thicker back? The question is what stays from current design? HD, DVD drive? Can you reasonably shrink motherboard? Would it be OK with customers if you put embedded battery like in MBA? If you can answer these questions I can tell how MBP will look like. From all the updates I would value weight adjustment. I wouldn't mind shaving off at least a pound...
