would be nice if there were an app that would permit down load pop up's and advertising but block them from view. All this to spoof the sender that you actually received it.
I've been wondering this for years, but I am not a programmer... Maybe someone would have done this already?

i read the negative on this is the popup would still use system resources like memory etc even tho you would not see it.
just thinking with todays hardware...
system resources, especially memory, are way excessive and a web browser is not a big load on the system.

They are now offering VPN service with the app, for those interested. The blocking feature will remain free.

I don’t really like that they are combined into one app. I wonder, is using the firewall portion only also having granted the VPN portion permissions in iOS? Seems like a potential security compromise.

I just noticed that Lockdown App has used 1.5GB of cellular data this current period. I don’t use the VPN feature, only the firewall. If everything is supposed to be taking place only “on-device” what is transpiring over all that cellular data? Would love to know the answer from the developer.

good question, i just saw someone on twitter ask the same question and so i looked - mine has used 3GB since i installed it shortly after seeing this macrumors article. and i'm on wifi probably 80 percent of the time!

i can see all the connections from my phone on my router but without being able to see the netstat table on the iphone i can't tell which connections are coming from Lockdown - that is, is it downloading a bunch of garbage or exfiltrating stuff from my phone? no idea.

edit: maybe because it blackholes all those hosts it gets charged for all the data which actually goes nowhere...? meaning that 3GB of tracking data was thwarted, just on cellular alone?

Thread necromancy....

I love this app on my iPhone and iPad, it is fabulous. Does anyone know if there is an equivalent simple to use app for the Mac?

I did email the developers who did say they were working on a lockdown app for the Mac but who knows when that will appear. Don't be fooled by the Lockdown app currently on the Macstore. It isn't the same.

Little Snitch, the OG firewall, is good on the Mac.
