Looks nice, but it's the middle of 2010 and Apple still can't get over the fact that Blu-ray Disc is here to stay? Bag of hurt, blah blah blah. Join the program and at least give us a BD option.

Now I'll just wait to see a teardown to see how easy (or hard) it will be to change the HDD... with luck 12.5 mm HDD will fit... imagine 2x1tb hard drive in this thing, you've got the perfect HTPC!

The way I see it, when you remove the screws from the bottom, I think the logic board and everything will slide out the back?

Thumbs up for unibody, diy memory, integrated psu and hdmi

but, still no i3/i5, why is apple sooo far behind. no usb 3.0, no bluetooth 3.0, no blu-ray.

The design is excellent and i wouldn't mind paying the premium but the specs should be comparable to the market. Apple's supposed to be ahead not behind!

Seems like the apple tv might soon disappear, Jobs wasn't too interested in talking about it at d8 either.

Looks nice, but £650!

I rather think Apple have forgotten what the Mac Mini was all about - a cheap Mac to hook new owners. My Parents in Law bought one a few weeks ago. £500 was pushing it, but £650 and they would have got another PC instead.

I can see the AppleTV/Mac Mini merge idea, but Apple really now need a new £400 Mac Micro.

Advertising NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics with "It brings more pixel-pushing power to the latest 3D games and graphics-intensive applications" is quite a lie.

What Notebookcheck says about NVIDIA GeForce 320M:
"Older and less demanding games should run in high details fluently. Modern and demanding games like Crysis or NFS Shift should only run in low detail settings"

Appears really overpriced for what you're getting. Pushing the specs to as closely match the iMac's as possible brings it to over $1100. Seems like they've forgotten the original reason for introducing this machine.

Edit: Speaking of the iMac, anyone else notice that you currently can't order one?

With electronic distribution via iTunes, the Mac will never have bluray. Apple looks at the optical drive as a whole as obsolete, much less a format they have already replaced.

I understand and respect these forward thinking stances they take with old tech. Especially flash. But c'mon. Physical copies of films are NOT being phased out by iTunes. Blu Ray is the only sensible way to store 1080p HD films. iTunes HD films are well, not very HD at all, and incredibly restrictive regarding subtitles and special features content.

Usually when they phase out old tech they replace it with something better. Floppy drive with optical drive. Flash with HTML5. But they are just plain IGNORING blu ray. It's ridiculous and highly frustrating for mac fans/film enthusiasts.

wow, this is very exciting!
I can't wait to see iFixIt to tear it apart and see what DIY possibilities are there
hopefully it's won't be too difficult

Definitely buying one late June or next month!!!

Woo hoo~~~

Sorry to be banging on on the price but... £280 difference between the normal and server models? Considering that £280 gets you:

* Faster Processor (2.66 v 2.4)
* Double the memory (4GB v 2GB)
* Three times the storage space (1TB v 320GB)
* Snow Leopard Server

I'd say that makes the base Mac Mini an utter joke in terms of value for money. Oddly though the server option remains a very very good deal if you have need of one, especially if you can get a discount on Apple kit (now if only I could get into the edumacation store to see what the discount actually is....).

And it has to be said... it's a joke that the new Mini isn't included in the Back to school offer for an iPod rebate considering that there's not THAT big a difference now between this and the same spec in Macbook form.

Don't care. Ordered. 😀 Will figure out the switching of the HD later. I'm sure we'll be able to get to it with a screwdriver.

very nice... but very expensive... $999 AUD, when I can buy an iMac for $1599 - which includes display/keyboard/mouse/faster processor

ummm... should be priced at a max of $799 AUD

Too expensive! A great machine, definitely, but not worth the dough. $700 for a low power entry level machine? Pass.
