Looks like Apple TV is next for update

Clicking on the Apple TV link gives an Oops not found error.

Seems like it is next once the site is updated.

Hey,

Just noticed the new upgrade. Looks and seems very nice.

Not sure if this happened a long time ago but the Apple TV has disappeared from the store completely!!

Apple TV is still alive and well among the iPods. Next version should run iOS4.

Same here in Germany. They raised ALL prices and new MacMini is 809 Euro!!! WTF. Not a option any more... For that money you get an much better spec'd Notebook...

To make it clear:
700 USD = 570 Euro

809 Euro = 990 USD

As usual people keep forgetting that there's a 19% VAT on top of the price in Germany and are comparing the wrong numbers.
The US price in Germany would actually be 833 USD, and the current EUR/USD ratio would more amount to 975-980 USD... soo ... yeah it's still quite expensive.

LOL sorry I had to laugh at the bolded text! PS3 such a good streamer?? HELL NO!! I've tried everything on it and I can only get divx supported files to play and mkvs nothing bigger than 4GB. I love the PS3 for gaming but I hate it as a video streamer, its absolutely useless.

Now a mac mini + Plex Player + installing the hulu player on the plex player + apple remote = HTPC HEAVEN!

haha, yes lack of some filetypes is a bummer but its leagues better than my 360! I tend to avoid mkvs myself, prefer h264 encoded mp4s, so i never really come across its limitations. But if you think your PS3 is bad as a media device, then I’m glad you’ve never had to use an Xbox!

This makes the Apple TV less of a good buy at this point...

That's what I thought as well (I just ordered Apple TV two days ago), but then I added up the prices: Mac Mini, Magic Mouse, Wireless Keyboard = £682 including HE discount vs £189 refurb Apple TV.

So I'll give it a pass this time, given I already have a hackintosh, Macbook and Macbook Pro at home.

Looks great, probably will look better "in the flesh" so to speak. Hopefully UK pricing won't be too bad - even though i'm not planning on buying one! My first mac was a mini, still great computers.

Amazing that no one has mentioned the USB ports.

Apple are always said to be the ones that lead the industry and fit new things whilst others catch up from behind.

And yet they have fitted USB2 ports when everyone else is just starting to move over to USB3 with is massive speed increase.

Very odd thing to do for Apple.

Crap graphics chip, well, yes, that's normal or course :(

There's like 10 Motherboards that I know of that have USB3, and they're classed as enthusiast grade boards.

There's like 0 (Or one, not quite sure about the 890FX) current chipsets that have USB3 natively, USB3 is far from becoming a widely adopted standard.

maybe a dumb question..but what do they mean with build in power supply ?

I means we no longer need this huge power brick that came with previous mac minis:

The mac mini was introduced as "the most affordable mac ever" at £339 (which really was affordable)

Then it edged up to £499, and now £650 :(

Perhaps an updated Apple TV will become the new introductory Apple device and come in at a much lower price point?

Either way this is definitely one for myus.com, just need the Queens Pound to strengthen up now...

(quietly hopes the Dollar tanks).
:D

Let's compare prices (basic model).

US = 699$ (572€)
Europe (Spain) = 951,2$ (779€)

Normally, Apple's excuse to difference in price between Europe and US is that US prices don't include tax. Adding a VAT of 18% to 699$ we get 824,82$ (675€). So after taxes, there's still a difference of 124$ (104€). I dont see Apple selling too many of them if we also consider that this computer used to cost 670$ (549€) here.

Mathematics shows Apple is ripping us off =)

Then this was never marketed towards you in the first place. Apple isn't looking to dominate the market with cheap alternatives. None of this should be news to you.

For aesthetic reasons. How often do you use it anyway? Why not put all the ports on the front in that case?

I'm not sure what this second part is that is coming up when I quote you, but I can only assume it relates to the SD slot. In answer to your question, I use the SD slot very often, as do many people who have things like digital cameras, video cameras, etc.

As far as the first part is concerned - The original Mini was marketed towards me, and others like me. Tell me, why is it that Apple could sell a computer with a PPC processor and a discrete GPU for $499, but once it was made with a generic processor and integrated GPU it suddenly jumped to $599? (In case you didn't know, it's a rhetorical question.) Now it is $699? In the middle of a recession? Seriously?

As a college student, there are two major types of laptop owners - the rich kids who have Macbooks, and the ~70% of us who would love to own a Mac, but just can't afford it. It is a real shame, because we humans are creatures of habit, and once people become comfortable with an OS, they tend to stick with it. It is a real missed opportunity for Apple, all because they would rather focus on the 10% who have the money to blow on a fancy case.

Edit: When I first hit "Quote" the forum wasn't showing your second quote, hence the weirdness at the beginning of my post.

Stop being douches. The 320M is a great IGP. If you want to compare it to a dGPU then, yes, you're being a douche. If you want this Mac Mini to have Core-i, but not be stuck with Intel HD and/or want Blu-ray then, yes, you're being a douche because those can't fit into this svelte design.

Sorry to break it to you, but these people are well-informed and see the 320M as what it is: just another slow ass GPU. Any current cheap dedicated GPU is way, way faster. I wonder who the douche is here...

The original Mac Mini had a dedicated GPU, so has the Apple TV. If you really believe that Apple couldn't put one in a 100 USD more expensive, non-portable Mac, for which power consumption doesn't matter that much, you'd better get away from that KoolAid, you're drinking.

Looks great and has some nice features. But without Blu-ray and with the new price tag I can't justify getting one under my TV.

Do it's have a IR remote sensor?

Doesn't look like it :(

Can't see it mentioned in the tech specs, but there is plenty of evidence it is there.

The IR remote is a configuration option and listed as an accessory on the Mac Mini page on Apple's web site. The IR receiver is clearly visible on the Mac Mini Server. It is next to the optical drive on the standard Mac Mini, so hard to spot. Reasonably clear in this picture from Apple's site: wide black bit just to the right of the optical disc.
