I can't wait. I hope this is accurate, because I'm getting fed up with all the crashes and stuff I'm getting since the updates last week.

I'm glad to see that Apple has listened to their customers who want a choice on the translucent menu bar as well as the stack options, this should prove to be a pretty good update. I don't really care about the change in functionality as I already like Leopard the way it is, but the more bug fixes the better. :)

Awesome.

I hope that also means Nvidia 8800 drivers too. Isn't that what is causing the 2-3 week lead time on Mac Pro orders?

No. The Nvidia issue is firmware on the video card, not drivers.

I've had no problems with leopard so far, but list view in stacks would be nice (I've already killed my translucent menu bar, so that doesn't matter to me anymore, but it sure was annoying in the beginning). :)

Here's what I predict

This new update comes out. I install it. and........

NOTICE NOTHING DIFFERENT AT ALL.

You know, kind of like almost every OS X update from Tiger on....

of course there are differences, but they are so tiny and add up to "no big deal"

I also predict that I will run home, and install it and be excited about if for all of two minutes.

SWEET!

and Safari will NOT BE SNAPPIER>>>>>!!!

Exactly!

Obviously the updates serve a purpose otherwise Apple would never do them, but I think to most of us we'll not notice much change.

BTW I like the translucent menu bar.

Start the countdown till the translucent menu bar goes away all together, or is replaced with a hideable version.
This new release will let you hide it.

I wonder if the cd/dvd sharing will eventually lead to dvd sharing with AppleTV. That way I can get rid of my DVD player :)
This should be possible with a hack on the AppleTV. One to auto-mount the optical drive from your Mac. Another to add Leopard's Front Row (which supports optical media) when one is in the drive. This could be difficult if Apple removed that option from framework on the AppleTV.

The bitrate required for DVD playback just isn't possible over Wireless connections.
DVD will work over 802.11g/n, but Blu-ray won't without heavy caching.

I hope this fixes Time Machine. I have yet to get it to work and not freeze my system.

I too had major problems with my system freezing with TM and a WD firewire drive. I switched to a Maxtor drive and have not had a problem since. What drive are you using?

Somone better tell that to www.slingmedia.com and the thousands of slingbox users out there.

I can stream pretty darn near decent HD to any Mac/PC in my house with a slingbox over my 802.11N network.

Is it TRUE HD? No, but it looks pretty darn nice.

I thought that the menu bar was already translucent.

Yes it is hard to understand. Considering myself and everyone I know who has Leopard have absolutly no problems with the readability of the menu bar. Get glasses instead.:D

Readability depends on you background image.

WD MyBook thingamajig. I guess that must be it! I'll still check it out when the new seed gets released, if not I'll use another drive.

Question:

So would it be possible to share my PC's DVDRW drive with my Mini (with just a combo drive). I have them both on Ethernet...

Just a thought, sometimes I'm too lazy to pull out my external mobile DVD burner.

I'm surprised no one mentioned optional Dock appearances, considering how much bellyaching there was over it. Personally, I love the new look, though options would be nice for those that don't, obviously. All I really care about right now is my Airport connection. There are no application performance anomalies that I can recall, but I'd like my wireless to be as consistent as it was during Tiger.
