Going to do a full backup and a clean install once this comes out.
Upgrading to 10.5 on top of Tiger has been somewhat spotty, and although my system doesn't regularly freeze, Finder hangs sometimes and I have to restart it.
I wish they fixed Finder!

The bitrate required for DVD playback just isn't possible over Wireless connections.

Really....

8.5 GB = 8500000000 bytes = 68000000000 bits

Play time of a typical movie = 90 mins = 5400 seconds

Bitrate required = 68000000000 bits / 5400 seconds = 12592592 bps = 12592 kbps

802.11n (typical) = 74 Mbit/s = 74000 kbps = 74000000 bps

Therefore, 802.11n should be 5.8 times that required to stream raw DVD data.

802.11g (typical) = 19 Mbbit/s, which should be 1.5 time that required. So it should be OK too.

And I also think this feature would be great. Kudos to cgray24 for thinking of the idea - you should get a job at Apple for such clarity of thinking .

Is it just me that hasn't had ANY re-occurring problems?

No crashes of Apple Software, and the only kernal panic was when I had three bluetooth devices talking to each other.

Mail/Safari/iTunes all working perfectly...

I don't know what you lot have done to your machines...

They've also separated the graphics drivers out into a separate update called Leopard Graphics Update, which must be installed after Mac OS X 10.5.2.
This caught my eye. Is the graphics update only installable on 10.5.2? I could see making it separate if they were going to let people with other OS X versions install it too, otherwise what's the point? Unless it's a really big file that they don't want to make everyone have to download? Or are there technical changes in 10.5.2 that must be present before the update can be installed?

Yes it is hard to understand. Considering myself and everyone I know who has Leopard have absolutly no problems with the readability of the menu bar. Get glasses instead.:D

Glasses don't help when you have a busy background. Just because you don't have a problem doesn't mean nobody else does.

Yes I know. I've tried about 50 different background images and still have no problems.

So you haven't tried the same ones other people have tried. Just accept it already.

Sweet! This sounds like its going to be a big one. I've had no problems with my leopard upgrade. Everything works great for me, but I guess things can always be more stable.

Well, if everything in the OP actually makes it to the update, Apple will have fixed most everything that was keeping me from grabbing Leopard. Add an easy way to fix the dock to be like Tiger's, and we're golden. Now it's just a matter of waiting for Adobe to fix their compatibility issues with Leopard.

I'm giving this a negative

This and every other Leopard update until they fix the Kerberos/Open Directory/Active Directory problems. That is keeping me from deploying Leopard in my Mac Labs. I could care less about translucent/transparent menu bars and other 'stacks' options if I can't manage all the machines I have from my server.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Please Apple give us a fix for this very important problem in the Education/Corporate environment!!! After that you can continue tinkering with the menubar!!!

mybook pro and x8600m...can't wait

As an owner of a WD MyBook Pro with fw 800, i can't wait for an update. It wont stay mounted for more than about 20 min over 800, but 400 does just fine.
Also, anyone know if my graphics drivers will be updated on the 8600m? It feels painfully outdated even playing COD2.

No, it's not just you. I have Leopard on 4 machines, at home and at work, and have no major problems. No app crashes, no hangs with my Western Digital MyBook and Time Machine (this may be because I carefully did not install their software).

My major gripe is with M-Audio, for not updating their drivers in a timely fashion. I wish that open dialogs didn't spin up every drive in my system (I have 4 external enclosures at this point). Ditto for any application that has a 'recent items' history - it seems to want to go out and touch all those things for some reason.

I think these are all minor quibbles, and I hope they get resolved someday. None of them would have kept me from upgrading.

A.

Has anyone had any trouble with applications randomly quitting or hanging up? Hopefully this will be fixed with the new update. *crosses fingers*

Yeah, this morning I had my iPod vanish from both finder and iTunes. I also had iChat and System Preferences beach-balling until I force quit them. So far, I seem to have solved both issues by re-installing the full download of 10.5.1. Hopefully, 10.5.2 will stabilise my system.

Nope... I haven't had any issues either. But, then I haven't had an issue with the Mac OS since we happily said goodbye to OS 9 and OS 8.x (especially OS 8.x).

OS X has always been stable, reliable, and such for me since 10.0.0 and all the updates between then and now.

I can't remember ever complaining about a stability or crashing problem with any version of OS X or with any update that I ever applied.

Does that mean I'm happy with OS X? Only partly. I still miss many of the OS 9 and OS 8 features that were left out of OS X (like the ability to customize my windows, buttons, and so on as I pleased without special shareware programs that break OS X somehow).

10.5 is no different. Been perfect for me since 10.5.0, and my only complaint is that the interface is still a bit drab and boring looking.

This new release will let you hide it.

He meant hide (similar to the Dock's auto-hide feature), not disable.

As for the update... bring it on.

Yes. The other day I came back to find that about 3 applications had all unexpectedly quit together.

This new update comes out. I install it. and........

NOTICE NOTHING DIFFERENT AT ALL.

You know, kind of like almost every OS X update from Tiger on....
I hope it was like any other OSX update, but at least for me and quite a few others this is not the case. For example the driver for atheros wlan crashes under heavy load - when I'm really pushing it I manage to crash my mac in 2 minutes (running "normal" apps). Without any bad intentions it happens at least twice a day. It's quite a pain to use ethernet in order to connect to the internet if you got accustomed to the concept of WLAN. Another aspect is Spaces, which is a good move in concept, but hardly usable compared to what has been available in the OSS area. It works great at first look, but it sucks at performing a normal job like switching between apps with alt+tab. If you have more than one app running per space it's quite likely that Leopard will give you the wrong app in focus when switching back to the space you worked on before. I could rant on about poor smb-configuration on the gui side or Safari locking when accessing certain websites, but those "features" are also in Tiger.

of course there are differences, but they are so tiny and add up to "no big deal"
Depending on what you use it might be no big deal, but some are actually thinking about installing Tiger again. I think this is a new trend in the Apple camp and I'd rather see it vanish sooner than later.

Please :apple:, at least do something about the 802.11g wireless dropouts on battery :( It's been a problem since 10.4.10, but 10.5.1 just has made it worse ::/ *prays*
