After reading a couple posts, why are there still people doubting that the next MacBooks will be aluminium?

I think they have to be metal, otherwise they wont seem to fit into the Apple Mac line-up. It seems more logical for the new Macbooks to resemble a Macbook Air, iMac or Macbook Pro than keep the old white plastic look.

exactly. Steve did say all products will go to aluminum and glass by the end of the year. Plus its 2008 and the white plastics are long gone from all products expect the macbook.

EDIT: and the iphone and the so called mac mini "top"

But then why use plastic on the iPhone 3G as opposed to aluminum like on the first version?
Because plastic has better wireless reception and makes probably more "sense" on a phone than a laptop. Besides, the iPhone is a "small package".
I do not think that plastic vs aluminium debate should impact the iPhone.

dead like floppy

Sorry ladies .. blueray is dead (just like DVDs, CDs, and floppies). Apple killed the floppy - and now they'll kill blueray. All you cavemen living in the mid 90's that still want removable media better be prepared to cough up an extra $200 to buy an external drive ...

And aluminium is better for the environment than plastic. It would make no sense for Apple to keep plastic for the next MacBooks.
Aluminium all the way! :)

Yea the next macbook is going to be aluminum
http://www.apple.com/environment/

Apple plans to completely eliminate the use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in its products, and arsenic in the glass of flat-panel displays by the end of 2008.

From Apple's own website it sounds like the next macbooks will be aluminum with glass screens

well, how many english ones are there? 6. well

1. Macbook pro
2. macbook
3.macbook air
4. mac mini
5. mac pro
6. imac

could mean we may see a refresh on the entire computer line up?

Each computer line has several (usually 3) variations. It would seem two of the lines are being updated. Just spec.

yeah blu-ray will die because apple wants it to

DVDs arnt dead yet. Not everyone has a super fast internet connectin to download shows. Some actually want a physical drive.

Blu-ray hasnt even hit full market yet. I hate people like you who think that way. Not everyone has a fast internet connection, so what about dial up users?

Plus sony did VHS, they did DVD they did blu-ray, they will be the next t come out with a new format. but not for anther 10 years...

kids

I think you can cut that number of SKUs in half -- for each machine there would be a separate SKU for the English language version of the machine and a SKU for the French language version.

So, methinks the speculation should start again as to what new machines will be released, but with only half the number of SKUs.

Why do they have an SKU in english and other in french? could it be because the products comes with a keyboard so its 6 SKUs for QWERTY products and 6 SKUs for AZERTY products?

Sony did BetaMax, not VHS. DVD was Philips's doing, not Sony's. Sony's only format to "win" in recent memory is Blu-Ray.

still, doesnt mean blu-ray will die

Still, explain how dial up users can download a 3 hour long movie? it would take at least a week... Plus the players for tvs. Dont give me the whole "well they can just get DSL" crap. explain your reasoning for "downloading everything on the net"

Well, the iPhone can be an exception though. Check my post a couple posts above. ^

Sorry, not being picky with you...

I just mean, Apple say they intend to eliminate PVC and BFRs in its products. They dont exclude anything on their site. But then where would they stop? Keys on the apple keyboard and the mightymouse, not to mention the Time Capsule and Airport stuff etc etc... hmmm.

I didn't say Blu Ray would die. I just didn't agree with your assessment about it. I hope they come at a reasonable price point!

Blu-Ray...

I too can foresee Blu-Ray, DVD and CD's going away for good.
The next storage medium is going to be Flash Based.:)

Funny. And I hate superannuated people like you, that keep the rest of us paying for technologies that are no longer required. How will people survive without a blueray player built into their laptop? They will buy the external drive.

you children need to understand something, and thats blu-ray is over a year old, its not going away anytime soon. you need to know that apple wont just stop doing things to please you like take over the world with no external media  they need to pretain to where the word is at this moment. and the word isnt quite ready for external media...

yeah some actually want it built in and dont want to carry 50 million things. I fell for you guys who want to lug around a laptop with bunch of other stuff when you can have it where its MENT to be., BULIT IN. If you have that attatude you might as well say "no hard drives" we have flash pen drives for that. no LCD pannels, we can plug the laptop in an external display.

No offence but all of you are spoiled. Want everything and anything. Even want some technology the world isnt quite ready for..

What about travel? I don't want to download movies I can only see on my laptop when I have a dvd of the same movie. I'm not gonna buy a apple tv on top of all this other hardware.

Dude, what dont you understand? Third time - buy the external drive. Did you and your 40 year old friends think the macbook air was a step forwards? or a step backwards?
