mmm some users start to report some heat problems on other sites and now this… new heating gate in the future?

For those of us in the film industry, especially DITs (digital imaging technicians) this new smaller lighter design is great. Yes, people do need the power of Mac Pro outside of an office in a mobile setting. Go to any film set and you'll find at least one Mac Pro built into a rolling cart. A very heavy rolling cart with large monitors and other equipment like storage arrays. Rolling!!

That looks like the most high tech hog dog cart on the planet! ;)

Plenty of room for this in the music industry as well. There are plenty of old mac pros in road cases powering concerts. Space is always at a premium while touring. I can see the nMP rack mounts being very popular.

Why? Even in a rack mount environment, I don't see a need. It would be safer to secure it from the flat bottom surface, rather than the side.

This would save a lot of space in a rack, especially if you need to mount two or three. I definitely see Sonnet coming out with an enclosure that will secure the Mac Pro in a rack mountable chasis with ports easily accessed from the front and back. A dual Mac Pro chasis would really save space.

Roly-poly Mac-Pro!

Upright it's a door-stop, on its side its a Land-mine:eek: could even be seen as a toilet-roll holder!:p

I think i'll stick with my updated G4...!

And to think that in 20-30 years (or less!) people will be amazed at how big these things were...

- When on its side, secure the Mac Pro (Late 2013) to be sure that it doesn't roll. Place the computer on a protective surface that will not scratch or damage the enclosure. Note: The Apple Limited Warranty does not cover cosmetic damage to the enclosure.

I'm just gonna post this again because it's relevant.

They see me rollin'...

They hatin'.

OWC should come out with a cradle for the Mac Pro that mounts underneath the desk. Similar to the ones they have available for the Mac mini.

Or a modified paper towel holder might do the trick. :D

I think a shelf, made of machined metal and shaped like a wine display - with a series of vents placed strategically throughout would be awesome for a multi-Mac Pro set up. Picture a "Connect 4" like panel on either side and then a thin, flat piece of metal swinging gracefully between layers, offering support in the middle. And throughout the whole thing circulation is being aided and optimized by the subtle ventillation system I mentioned earlier. It would be beautiful!

Mac Pros in space...!?

Since they obviously don't need convection as a significant contribution to cooling airflow, Mac Pros could conceivably be used in a micro-gravity environment (like perhaps the ISS?). I don't have any idea what kind (if any) of workstation class systems they use, but a COTS solution is always a nice alternative to have.

I'm not worried about rolling, there will be more cables attached to it than the golden gate bridge.

But the cables coming from the side of the machine makes rack mounting a bit more messy than some of the diagrams here show.

Leave it to apple to make our imaginations run wild. I really like the beehive idea! That would be an epically badass setup.

Do you go through a lot of hard drives having them bounce around while rolling the cart over rough areas?

That's kind of strange to do without special racks, though.

Rolling would definitely be a problem on most surfaces. A carpet floor would be fine, but this computer was designed to be used vertically...

You had the first comment, yet you couldn't say something like "That's the way we roll"? I am disappointed that I couldn't inject something cheesy into the first page of the thread:(.

Wow, here's a great idea, put the contents of the Mac Pro into a 1U rack case, to fit perfectly into these carts and other racks. Oh wait... Have I seen this before?

"That's the way we roll"
... :D

It's too bad, recently I made myself stop being "punny." If something like this came out a few weeks earlier you might have seen a comment just like the one you suggested :p
