I agree about Aperature.
I also work with high definition video editing using 10-bit uncompressed codecs.
Very, very cpu intensive.
Those can take forever to render.

Yeah, render time would greatly benefit from a MacPro... I have a Canon HV20 and surprisingly enough, the iMac can eat it up pretty well in FinalCut... but again, render times are just so-so

I'm sure a lot of us in the MacPro forums are in the same boat. I'm 24 and I'm using Final Cut Studio 1, all the Adobe programs, some Pinnacle Apps, and any other production programs I am missing. Running all that crap on a G4 right now too. It's so painful. At my work we got the MacPros, but still. Can't wait to get my own, hopefully tomorrow, that way I can put my FCS2 on there. :)

Oh, and I am dying to play X-Plane. Can't wait for that too!

I'm in that boat. I'm waiting for the new Mac Pro while still chugging along with my 6 year old G4 DP800 (1.5g RAM, 256mb Radeon 9800 Pro). The computer is showing its age and I'm more than due for an upgrade, but until the new machines come out I'm staying busy with FCP 4.5 and the latest version of X-Plane, which both run decently. Of course I'm looking forward to the huge performance gain I'll see with the new rig, and the first thing I'm doing is upgrading to FCS2.

Cool to see some X-Planers on here. X-Plane 9 should be out in early '08, so when you order your MP go for the extra processor speed if you can, that's the best way to help your framerate with that sim. At this point X-Plane only takes advantage of two cores, but that may change in future versions. For now, quad-core is more than enough.

Man, you make me feel awful. I've been griping and whinging at how poorly x-plane runs on my Dual 2.7 G5 and (virtually) kicking Apple in the shins for the lack of new Mac Pros. I can't imagine being stuck on a dual G4! I didn't realize how good I had it. :)

I'm so ready for x-plane 9. Now that I'm working for FlightAware full-time I can even write it off as a business expense ;) It's research and training, right?

Now that is a awesome job!!! :)

At least you got a 256mb graphics card. lol I've been stuck with this 64mb for a very long time. Can't wait to get X-Plane. And believe me, when the new MacPro arrives, I will be getting the mid option with at least 6 gigs of Memory and at least a 512mb or 640mb graphics card. :)

Yes, I know all about X-Plane and extra processor speed.
My biggest problem with X-Plane like most (all?) games is it does not utilize all the cores of multi-core processors.
I know that is what you said.
It relies more on processor speed.
So you are correct, the higher the processor's clock number, the better X-Plane will perform.
I am curious to see what X-Plane 9 brings to the table.

That´s the same bloody whine that was in the summer 2006.

Apple wont hold up the new MP for some bloody app´s that has to be updated.Be it adobes or apples fault.
If there is a reason for MP not coming next tuesday, if wont be the un-compability of one production tool,no matter how important it might be.

You still so sure about that punk?

I told you - the MacPro's won't come until core software works. be it adobe CS3 or whatever - it needs to work with the OS without problems - if that's December then so be it - if it's January then so be it. The fact of the matter is Apple won't ship a computer that won't run the software it was designed for no matter how many kids start threads on macrumors.

You obviously don't understand business.

I agree and disagree at the same time. Its important that CS3 be working well with leopard, however Apple already updated Final Cut Studio yesterday - which I would say is another big selling point of the Mac Pros.

There is only a line when one company goes too far to accomodate the lack of another... and that line is getting blurry between Apple and Adobe. You can decide which company is which :)

My bottom line is this: if you really have serious work to do, and it's going to make you money, buy what you need to get the job done today. Otherwise, you're just playing around...or spending money on something you can't really afford.

Yep. How many MP's are currently being utilized in businesses where even a 30% increase in (machine output) workflow isn't going to increase their profits? I know there are likely situation's where MP's are basically cranking out dollars- but I daresay that's hardly the majority. I'd venture a guess of maybe 10% of the "upgraders" meaning current PPC/MP owners will recoup their costs in increased productivity. I know, who cares about business justification- Just an academic observation to pass the time.

I know for a fact though, that my 4GB dual G5 PPC could easily take me another year at the least. In my peak season I'm cranking out DVD's all day long. That is, unique DVD projects made from unique movies (not duplication/ replication in other words) and the bottleneck of me waiting on the computer rather than the other way around is absolutely a factor. But even so, a faster machine wouldn't make up the difference financially as there are months where the machine hardly even gets used for work. Whatever... Apple PLZ hurry! *bangs fists*

Wow?!

Once again : Post first, then smoke crack. Uhmkay?

Nobody is roling computers out atm, it doesnt matter what Dell/Hp has announced. Bottomline, none has shipped yet.
THAT is the reason there is no :apple: machines out either.

You really suggest that all the other vendors are holding back their production lines, just so that some geezer has problems printing PDFs?

Dude...

Come back with your whinging if apple really waits for the CS3 update, states it that it stalled the selling of their prestige product because of some third party fkuk ups and they have recieved some class action suit from the shareholders because they have done some dumbass stalling because off some third party fkuk ups.

Mmmkay?

Stated again : apple will release their lineup before other vendors and the timetable not linked to the schedule of third party program updates.
