How is your new Mac Pro running?

It seems like many of the problems are software related.

The sleep / freeze thing and a few people with case, HD, or PSU buzzing appear to be the only non software related problems.

I've a problem with mine - I ordered it almost 5 weeks ago and it's still not bloody shipping ;)

To all who got them - enjoy ;)

Hope it ships soon....

Apparently Mac Pros are built in a number of different countries. I wonder if some or all the 18 MPs with significant problems (in this poll) were built in the same place.

I got my new mac pro a week ago and it has frozen twice on reboot. Apple care has had me reboot it while holding command / alt / R / P. I am going to post about this.

Received mine on 2/18. I have been rendering video, editing photos, gaming in OS X and Windows all flawlessly. I've owned many computers since 1981, many of which were extravagantly expensive. This is the best computing experience I have ever had. :apple::D

No problems here

My 8800 MP has been working great with the 2 original Gb ram plus 8Gb from OWC. My wife is a designer so we bought the monster for her. She uses Photoshop CS3 in OSX plus Autocad and Autodesk Viz in Vista Home Premiun 64 bit via boot camp. Everything works great in both operating systems !!

I've had a couple issues with my MP:
1. Raid Utility was reporting my Raid card battery failed. Then it says it's fully charged. dunno what to think about it but it is a minor thing right now.
2. A couple of times Spaces has failed to change automatically when selecting applications. Required a restart to have it work properly again. I've had this happen on other macs so it's a leopard glitch.

Got my 2.8, 8800, 320 after ordering on last Tuesday and received it Friday! Very fast process from MacMall. I'm leaving it in the stock 2 gig config until I wring it out for a few days. I've spent last night and today loading up my apps (PShpCS3, Final Cut Studio, Filemaker 9, iWork, iLife) to see if it will fail. It woke from an overnight sleep with no problems and I'm doing some restarts and an occasional sleep after I add each app. I even ran Repair Permissions a couple times just to "tidy up". So far, no problems whatsoever. It's dead silent except for a 5 or 10 sec. fan spin-up upon bootup. I'll order 8 gigs of OWC RAM this week a 500 gig HD is on the way, too, but NONE of it will be installed until I'm certain that the stock hardware is working exactly the way it should.

Hey ggk, did you get the ram in OK and kept your 2gb, how did you install it (order)?

I bought 8 Gb from OWC (4 x 2 Gb) and I kept the original 2 Gb (2 x 1 Gb)
Let's call the memory cards top and bottom.

I have in the top memory card:
Slot 1: 1 Gb Original
Slot 2: 1 Gb Original
Slot 3: 2 Gb OWC
Slot 4: 2 Gb OWC

Bottom memory card:
Slot 1: 2 Gb OWC
Slot 2: 2 GB OWC
Slot 3: Empty
Slot 4: Empty

I've just followed instructions from the Mac Pro user guide. Both OSX and Vista 64 bit recognize the 10 Gb. I know any 32 bit Windows version will not recognize more than 4 Gb regardless of what you have.

Hope it helps

Problems, but now none.

I had lots of problems, all gone with a clean install on a new drive.

These is no question my original drive has problems. I also have mouse problems that seem to have gone away. I had the reboot, wake from sleep problem and some digital artifacts on my screen--none since the clean install.

It appears the problem with the Bose speakers and Garageband has been fixed by 10.5.2, so at this point, I only have an issue with my Gearbox software (from Line6) is incompatible with 10.5.2... :)

Update should be coming at the end of the month....

flawless thus far, though I haven't gamed with it or done any intensive graphics work (I don't do either - I'm just a lowly programmer).

The only problem I've had so far is a disappearing bluetooth module upon rebooting. It would reappear and work fine after an upgrade, but disappear after one or two reboots. Under system profiler under bluetooth is would say "no information found". An Apple tech solved it by getting me to do an SMC. Basically unplug everything from your computer (usb and power cords), wait 30 seconds and then reconnect things and restart. It has worked perfect so far (3 reboots). No other problems or concerns otherwise. I'm using 32-bit vista home basic and running an RC flight simulator called G4 by RealFlight. The simulator works awesome.

I've had one restart on wake from sleep. Can't replicate - just tried to make it do it by sleeping it 7-8 times. I'll try more later.

CTO - Octo 2.8, 8800GT, 500GB Hard drive, wifi

Took 44 days to arrive
Battery on the RAID card was faulty
Front case was scratched
After 77 mins on the phone just now to AppleCare (5 mins talk time, 72 mins on hold) I will have a replacement by March 12, almost 2 months after I placed the original order
I'm sure it will be beautifully packaged though

I took delivery on my Mac Pro 2008 on 2/20 added 2 gigs of ram from ramjet. All I can say is wow!! I am coming from a powermac g4 1.0 and a macbook pro 2.16 and this macpro is great i encoded movies with handbrake in less than 20 mins and did tons of other aps at the same-time . I have had no issues so far knock on wood no freezes or glitches it has been rock solid running 24 7 since i got it. I never put my computer to sleep so i can't say if i would have that problem . So far the best computer i have ever owned

I've had mine for 2 weeks or so and it's been fine. Once it took a long time to wake up, but no serious issues.

Well, there are two.

When the Pro sleeps, it produces a high pitched but barely noticeable buzzing noise. It's cyclical and it's completely quiet in between cycles. The frequency is maybe every 5-6 seconds. I'm not sure what it is, but I haven't made a serious effort to look yet. The only problem is that the computer is in my bedroom and it's an annoying enough noise that I can't sleep with it on. Meaning if the Pro sleeps, I don't! Anybody have any ideas? My next step is to open it up and press down on various things as it's sleeping. Not that excited to do that with the power on though....

The second issue, I've found that I like the keyboard a whole lot. I'm typing the fastest I ever have with it. The mighty mouse is another thing though. I love the functionality of it, I think the scroll wheel is great. The ergonomics though, are terrible. The mouse has no support for your hand at all, essentially either you keep your hand in the air and your arm gets tired, or you rest your hypothenar eminence (pinky side of your palm) on the mousepad. It all seems like a setup for some sort of repetitive motion injury.

Otherwise, no major issues and love the computer and the 30" ACD.

Well, I did a bit more exploration.

The sound that's bothering me is in sync with the brightening and dimming of the small light above the power button.

When the light starts to get brighter, the noise starts to get louder. Dimmer, quieter. Off, no noise.

It's definitely not the fans, I peeked and they don't run during sleep.

I'm hoping it won't be as much of an annoyance once I get the computer down on the floor (yes yes I know how much some people are against it) but if it doesn't make it a bit better, I'll have to continue to turn the whole thing off every night.

Not exactly a Global Warming level problem I know.

I'm leaving it in the stock 2 gig config until I wring it out for a few days. I'll order 8 gigs of OWC RAM this week a 500 gig HD is on the way, too, but NONE of it will be installed until I'm certain that the stock hardware is working exactly the way it should.

Same with me. My 2.8 Octo, 500, 8800 has been running for 2 days now, everything as "out of the box" (not even added any apps yet).

Monday I get 3x Spinpoint 750's. I'll add a few critical apps like CS3 and order extra RAM from OWC.

I use Macs to earn a living. I can't risk wasting time on getting my main machine to work with me. This way will take a week longer to get it all up to speed but at least I can still continue working on my current iMac 20" RevB and get jobs out on time (apart from the time I waste playing with the MacPro which so far is looking faultless except for a bit of an "app lag" when coming out of sleep (display comes up straight away, but whatever app is open is unresponsive for about 20secs)

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm going to try the SMC rout... I may try to rewire the bluetooth module per other's suggestions in these forums.

I just received my Mac Pro 2.8ghz, 8800gt this week.

Having issues with sluggish video/animation playback under OSX...
Animations (dock, dragging of windows, opening applications) are very sluggish, feels as if its going at 5fps, my old iMac was much smoother. Movies are the same way, they report they're playing at 30fps but what I am seeing on the screen is more like 5fps, also when I drag the video window around everything pauses which my imac does not do. Another strange thing is games under osx and windows run fine... I can run doom on highest settings and it would be silky smooth. Is anyone else having issues like this?
