Were you originally planning to do otherwise? Do people seriously upgrade after just one refresh?

Wouldn't you if you had the money for it? I would. I wouldn't have a Mac Mini but a Late 2013 Pro instead.

I own a 2010 MBP which had coffee spoiled all over it. Died, of course, but was magically reborn after disassembling and cleaning for almost a week with cotton swabs and buying a new battery. Still rocking with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. But of course, if I had all the money I wanted, why not get the latest MBA every year? Sounds fun. lol

Now seriously, I hope I can keep this one until 2016, costed me over €1200...

Not really a joke. Yes, it's a very small spec bump but so what? As I mentioned in a post a while back, any update is welcome. Just wait until WWDC. Air Retina is coming.

I absolutely love your optimism. The pedant in me agrees this is an "update". The realist in me says meh. MR could have not even bothered reporting this.

My 2011 MBA is rock solid but sort of low on SSD space. Had me contemplating an update. However with Transcend offering some sweet SSD upgrades, I think daddy's MBA will get a new lease on life. I'll wait a couple of months to make sure Transcend's SSD's don't have any hiccups and pull the trigger.

/fingers crossed.

Damn, TB2 would have had me

I am looking to pick up a rMBP13 or MBA and mainly use is as a bootable drive through my iMac and external displays.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1729007/

TB2 would further future proof for that use case, and other benefits of TB2. Obviously my iMac doesn't have it yet either.

We'll see, maybe they'll up the max storage to a TB.

What's the point of this? Seems like an extremely minor spec bump

But what if you are new to buying a Macbook Air or need a new laptop. Oh the agony have needing a 100% spec increase every new release! OH!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe there will be a drop in price. This design has been around for a long time though.

I still want my backlit wireless keyboard....

Forget that, just put the light on.

Not many things I upgrade in my life, but I will have the latest iPad mini, MacBook Pro and iPhone.

Only thing I won't upgrade at the moment is the missus :D

For reasons above ;)

Yep.... but ....

Nobody told you it had to be ordered that way.... That's the lowest entry price, for those who don't feel like they need more.

Personally, I'd never consider less than the 13" air, built to order with 8GB of RAM. But I also have more I want to do with my computer than surf the net with Safari or FireFox.

4GB of RAM, 128GB SSD. It's 2010, right ?

For all those who say that the MBPr is already the retina Air, there is still quite a difference. Half a pound is pretty significant. Also the Pro is thick all around, where as the Air is only a similar thickness at its thickest point.

It's a smaller difference than comparing the Air to the full DVD drive included Pro, but still significant.

Although if they put a retina on the Airs its going to be cannibalize pro sales. A lot of people (me included) paid the premium to have a nice screen even if we don't use the specs to their full capacity.

I doubt any event time would be given to announcing an Air with a Retina display. It's "common" tech now.

Apple gave stage time to a MBA update with Haswell and improved battery life. They certainly would for a retina display. That would be a big deal for the MBA line.

Bite me if I can't have a retina MBA!
Besides, I already have a 1.7 ghz i5 MBA from 2011, thank you, with 4 gigs of goddamn ram, baby!

didnt they do the same thing with the rMBP last year?

To be fair, last year's rMBP was more than a tiny processor bump — it was a fairly significant processor bump that also included the addition of Thunderbolt 2, 802.11ac, PCIe-based flash, etc. (also, a slight change to the form factor of the 13-inch)

If this is the ONLY update to the MBA, it does seem like a rather small one, but it also seems like kind of a silly thing for anyone to complain about at this point (especially considering this is still technically just an unofficial rumor, not to mention the other rumors of the mysterious Retina Air product later in the year).

And personally, I'll be glad if they do get all their minor spec bumps out of the way before WWDC, to save plenty of time to show off the bigger things we're all hoping for...

Purely due to Intel upgrading thier CPU's, though don't worry Apple is innovating something..... just not in this half of the year ;)

Why are people getting so ******** over this? It's not like Apple is bragging about this minor spec bump at WWDC'14 or anything, they will most likely not mention this or market it in any way like they did with the minor spec bump of the MacBook Pro 15" Retina last year.

So why on earth are people behaving like this is a big deal when Apple is clearly not making anything out of it? This is simply Apple going from pervious to newer revision of pretty much the same Intel Haswell silicon. Nothing more, nothing less. Most likely Apple would probably have to keep paying MORE for inferior silicon as Intel is phasing the previous SUK's which was used in the MacBook Air's out of the market and replacing them with these newer ones.

The MacBook Pro had the exact same thing last year and that wasn't announce anywhere by Apple, it was a natural and completely silent update and a few months later we got the newer models announced with the newer hardware as usual.

Obviously we wont be seeing any actual real update to the MacBook Air until Intel is capable of delivering Broadwell which is not to be expected before Q4. Until then there isn't much to hope for, other than perhaps a MacBook Air with retina display introduced at WWDC'14 or something with a different SKU including something like the Intel HD 5000 or 5100 in order to drive the higher resolution display.

Not sure if you're being serious, but if you are, thanks, I guess! Yeah, the Transcend SSD do look like a good buy.

We are NOT talking about the move from Intel IvyBridge to Intel Haswell.. We are talking about the increase of 100 or was it 200 MHz on the CPU which they made Early-2013 long before they introduces the newer models you are referring to. The Mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retina got a minor spec bump just like this in Early-2013 before Apple introduced the newer models with Intel Haswell, Thunderbolt 2 etc a few months later.

You clearly missed the whole thing I suppose, which was the whole point just like it is with this minor update to the MacBook Air CPU.

Curious, are there any competitive PC ultrabooks to this mythical rMBA?
i.e. Retina resolutions and haswell chips?

i really don't understand why everyone is getting so worked up by this, having worked in the industry before it is pretty clear that Intel offered Apple a deal and want to move them onto a slightly different processor at the same or slightly better price, so that they can repurpose the fab that made the old processor. Clearly the only thing that has changed is the processor. This is not a re-design just a supply chain issue.
