Ordered mine yesterday went into the Apple store and the glare was pretty bad in the store even for a matte display  So this is the config and the shipping dates
MBP 15.4/CTO

Matte screen? All of the new MBPs have a glossy screen. But they are terribly glossy. I predict Apple will make changes soon. Unfortunately i already bought mine. Anti-glare screen on the way now too.

You guys make such a big deal about the glossy screen. Inside, outside
I have never had any problem whatsoever. AND the glossy looks better!

I brought my 17 inch macpro matte in the store

So my previous post was that i ordered a macbook pro 2,8 and I brought my
macbook pro 17 inch with a matte display and even that was difficult to see in the Apple store .

I am bummed...So i ordered mine EARLY Wednesday morning. I got my tracking number and everything. I am scheduled to get it Oct. 21! I was hoping to get it during the weekend. They are shipping it from China and I am in California. It shouldn't take that long.... That teaches me a lesson...don't buy from apple online if you want it quick.

Everyone else...enjoy your macbook...

What did you expect? Weekend deliveries are only done in the rarest occasions (I don't think Apple ever does weekend deliveries). International shipping isn't as quick or linear as domestic.

Woohoo!

Just ordered mine from the UK education store.
  • Macbook 2.4 GHz
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Mini-displayport to VGA adapter
  • Magsafe airline adapter
  • Apple remote control
  • iWork 2008
  • Applecare Protection Plan
  • MS-Office 2008 for the Mac student edition
  • Vmware Fusion
  • iPod Nano (back to school rebate)
  • HP multifunction printer (free after rebate)

This Macbook will replace my five year old rev A 12-inch Powerbook. I hope I get another good five years out of this new notebook computer.

Question: Apple says the maximum supported RAM is just 4GB. Is this because the MCP79 chipset won't support more, or could more RAM work once 4GB DDR3 SODIMMs are available? I did a search and I couldn't find any 4GB DDR3 SODIMMs. This was the story with my Powerbook; Apple said the maximum supported RAM was 640 MB since 1GB SODIMM's weren't available when the Powerbook was released and they hadn't tested the Powerbook with those, but when 1 GB SODIMMs became widespread a year or two later, they worked just fine. I'm hoping this will be the case with my Macbook as well; while 4 GB is just fine and dandy right now, I'm certain I'll need more RAM in a couple of years as applications become more RAM hungry.

PS: Anyone else from the UK? What are your shipping dates? I am scheduled to get my Macbook only on the 5th of November, so I am quite jealous of all the Californians getting their in a few days.

MBP in Europe!?!?

Ordered yesterday my MBP "entry level".
Live in Italy, wondering if their expected delivery date (between October 31st and November 4th) is real.
Any hope for an earlier delivery?

Anyone got it in Europe?

Mine shipped from Shanghai last night... sooo anxious.

I'm hoping it arrives at the hub in oakland tonight, so I can call them and go pick it up. Waiting till monday is a bad idea - I don't want to unbox my mac with phones ringing, customers emailing... yada yada.

It'll probably go through Alaska first before it continues to Oakland. Everything I've read from others as well as my own experience says Alaska is usually the first stop after China.

The MBP/MB supports 8Gb. The reason why Apple doesn't claim that is be cause its hard to find and very expensive to get two 4Gb sticks.

#^@*!!!!!

It now says the 22nd is my est. delivery date... but I'm going to do everything in my power to get it tomorrow :)

Thats why you go to the APPLE STORE and get one. I was gonna do the same but they didnt have any extra ram that i wanted installed so i had to order online. So not only do i have that delay but i now have to wait an EXTRA day because my credit card company DECLINED the apple charge! -- It was out of my "spending trend" so they thought it was a fraudulent charge. What irony. Maybe i shouldnt be buying a macbook after all .. :p

anyways, cant wait until it comes in. =]

Mine got here this morning, but I ordered it Tuesday night. Also in California (southern).

Although apple does not have its own store, there appear to be a number of resellers in the Philippines, many of which may be able to assist you. Your best option would be to visit their websites and/or give them a call.

You can find a list of resellers at http://www.asia.apple.com/buy/

They'll probably tell you that you can either return the computer if you're not "satisfied" (because it doesn't have the backlight) or (if the order hasn't shipped and they're on top of things) they'll tell you that you can upgrade to the top-end model if you pay the extra $$$.

I don't think anyone should expect they can "game" the system and get a backlit keyboard on the 2 Ghz model. If you don't like what you get, you can return it. Maybe they'll waive the fee, but that's about it.
Who's trying to "game" the system? I made an order with the clear understanding that I was getting a MacBook with a backlit keyboard, as shown on every single page of the ordering process (this was before it became apparent that the model I ordered was not backlit, and I did not watch the media event). Apple agreed by accepting my payment to provide a system with the specifications quoted in the contract. Thus, to fail to provide this system constitutes a breach of that contract.

At a minimum, Apple would be required to provide a 100% refund if I decided to return the system. Or allow me to upgrade without paying a restocking fee, in spite of the fact that mine was BTO with a RAM upgrade.

I'm not sure what to do now. I don't think that the extra processing power is worth the difference in price, but I ordered that model specifically because a backlit keyboard was offered.

Woo! I ordered my MPB today. Just the basic model and will upgrade the ram myself. Still, it will be so sad letting go of my Powerbook G4 :-( I am utterly attached!

I managed to order through a friend and got a free 3 year warranty included - score! ;)

Do any of you have one of those cool looking plastic stands? I'm not sure what they are called...Any help?

I ordered through the online HE store (UK) on Friday morning (17th) and the estimated shipping says 7 business days but the estimated delivery says 5th to 6th November! Am I missing something or do Apple have their own calendar system as well?!

I'm a bit p'd off by that as well to be honest... I accept that I've added RAM and a different HDD (worked out only a few £s more than I could get elsewhere) but still everything else is in stock so I don't understand the extra days they need.

I ordered my MBP on Wednesday morning when availability was meant to be 'within 7 business days' although I accept this does not include the shipping time to the UK. Estimated delivery date is before 3rd - 4th November.

The way I see it, their timings are worked out by adding the advised lead time at the point of order, plus 7 business days for shipping. You can see how it theoretically works in my case below:

Wed 15 - I ordered a MacBook Pro, which had 7 working day availability
Thu 16 - 1 working day elapsed
Fri 17 - 2 working days elapsed
Sat 18
Sun 19
Mon 20 - 3 working days elapsed
Tue 21 - 4 working days elapsed
Wed 22 - 5 working days elapsed
Thu 23 - 6 working days elapsed
Fri 24 - 7 working days elapsed... item should have shipped by today.
Sat 25
Sun 26
Mon 27 - 1 working day since item shipped
Tue 28 - 2 working days since item shipped
Wed 29 - 3 working days since item shipped
Thu 30 - 4 working days since item shipped
Fri 31 - 5 working days since item shipped
Sat 1
Sun 2
Mon 3 - 6 working days since item shipped
Tue 4 - 7 working days since item shipped... item should have arrived by today.

So, fingers crossed!

I was expecting mine to be an 'off-the-shelf' order, but when I specified that I needed the DisplayPort-->VGA dongle, I didn't realise that the person who took my order applied that as a Configured-To-Order (CTO) option rather than an additional item to be added onto the order, so this means my computer counts as custom built... I hope this doesn't add to the shipping time.

I guess that makes so perhaps I was just too thick to understand what they were saying or I'm just too impatient now (desperately need a laptop for Uni!)

One other thing though, on the order status it says "items will be shipped when they are all available"... I would've been happy to pay a little extra to have the iPod now, if they'd asked.

Would it have been more expensive to buy the cable separately from the Mac? If not that might be the way to go for others (online only I guess)

Ordered Tuesday, $2100
2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066Mz DDR3 SDRM-2x2GB
320GB Serial ATA @ 7200
Mini DisplayPort - DVI Adapter
Mini DisplayPort - VGA Adapter
Apple Remote

Saved $500+ coz of ADC hardware discount, my membership expires end of oct, so it was the best time to update the notebooks. Got delayed by a day when AmEx declined the authorization. Right now the order status is "Prepared for Shipment", should get delivered sometime next week. :D
