After reading through all 24 pages, I've narrowed down my choices to the Joli Originals and Mint Cases Sleeves in smooth leather.

Would appreciate any thoughts on the relative build quality of these to cases.

I have the Mint Case smooth leather case, and I am very impressed with quality of the leather and the craftsmanship of the build.

I also have the Waterfield MacBook Suede Jacket Sleeve, and this thinner form factor and high quality build truly impresses. Read more at: https://www.sfbags.com/collections/...nd-cases/products/macbook-suede-jacket-sleeve

A carry over when I owned a MBA 11.6 is a Booq Viper Hardcase that I still use protect my rMB inside my travel tote bag.

Can't say anything about the quality of the mint cases, but I would strongly recommend the Joli sleeves. Build quality is very good. My old sleeve is several years old, heavily used and still in perfect condition.

I have the black Mintcase with the strap, the leather and build quality is premium. I'm glad that I got the button strap, or else it would slide out. I would highly recommend this case. :)

Can you post a pic of that side of the sleeve? Thanks!

It's difficult to capture in a photo but you can see the feet pressing tight against the sleeve.

I returned the moshi case...it was junk. Yes the flap stays closed on the other case. Its magnetic.

Just a head's up that I trusted a video and product page from OutfitYours regarding the Incase Icon Sleeve for the 11" Air which said it fit the 12" Retina and it in fact does not. It's about 1.5" too wide and 1" too tall, it's sloppy and the RMB slides around and the case is obviously sagging along the edges. It's going right back for a refund.

They named it their 'best sleeve' for the 12" RMB which is curious. Anyway, just a head's up to anyone else who watches the video on YouTube, you're not going to be happy with that sleeve.

Will do. Pissed that I didn't read your post earlier.

I got the Booq Taipan zippered sleeve mentioned somewhere in this thread. It's pretty nice, but not quite as snug as I hoped. Definitely sized for the 12" Macbook, not just an MBA retread, but just a bit more give than I hoped. I'm keeping it, it's not disappointing enough to return it.

They are. Wouldn't buy anything else for my iPhone or MacBook's. I've been using them for 3/4 years now and they are worth the premium.

Hey, so after searching through this thread to get ideas, I'm glad I found yours re Hard Graft. Hadn't heard of them before, really looks like they make some very lovely stuff indeed! And reading up on their site, I like their approach - really sophisticated and tasteful design coupled with good values and production ethics. The relatively high price feels justified if indeed they're using the high quality materials they mention and I can really get behind a company that doesn't have things cheaply made in extremely low income countries.

I'm really interested in this one:

http://www.hardgraft.com/products/grab-ocean

Looking at the dimensions on the site, it looks like it's a little bigger than the rMB so it won't be a snug fit. Clearly they've just rebranded an existing model already made for the Air or the 13" rMBP, which is OK with me since it's not just a sleeve, it's also something to carry extra bits and pieces too.

I couldn't find the exact dimensions of the one you have, the fit macbook sleeve. Is it precisely made to fit the rMB snugly or does it move around a bit inside? I haven't ruled that one out either, am just leaning toward the Ocean folio because I think the deep blue tanned leather will look ultra chic with my silver rMB, and I also like the extra pocket for carry other stuff. The grab handle is also a pretty nice touch, could see myself heading out with this folio alone rather than having to carry it in a bag.

Does anyone here have any experience with this particular product? I'd also like to hear about the general quality of any of the Hard Graft sleeves, how well do they hold up after a while?

FWIW, I already tried ordering the Ocean Grab Folio on their online store (they have a decent return policy in case it turns out to be not what you expected), but for some reason their payment system kept rejecting my card. Not the most encouraging sign, given that I use the same card for online purchases all the time (the rMB being a pretty good example!), so I hope it's just a glitch and not a sign that their operation is a bit less slick than it looks..!

I'm also looking at the Joli originals. They look really nice to and also very well made. But I like the idea of having something that's a little more than just a sleeve.

Anyway if anyone has anything to say about the Hard Graft products, good or bad, I'm listening!

I use their sleeves and cases for years.

I have used this and variations of this for the last 4 years (I buy a new iPhone each year, and the relevant Hard Graft case):

I hand my old iPhone's to family, along with the Hard Graft case and they have proved to be durable and always protect the iPhone's. They are excellent!

The sleeve I have for my MacBook Pro allows the Mac to fit snugly inside and there's no movement. The materials protect it in my bag from any bumps & knocks as I carry it around.

Hard Graft products are expensive, but when I spend £1500+ on a computer and £650 on a phone, I want to protect them as best as possible with a quality product. I wholeheartedly recommend them!

Thanks for the feedback! I agree about wanting something suitably well made with a higher quality standard to it than just the usual mass produced sleeve. I always used to just buy whatever padded sleeve they had in the Apple Store or reseller, the only criteria being it had to be the correct size and a colour that I more or less liked. Apart from the fact that they still don't have even one padded sleeve in the rMB's size yet at the Apple Store here in Paris, I look around at what's on offer and it all looks so cheap and frankly downmarket. Glad to see there are really nice choices out there now from good designers like Hard Graft, Joli and a few others - a lot of work went into the design of this machine so it feels wrong to carry it around in a lame utilitarian sleeve that nobody put any care into. If you have any photos of your Hard Graft sleeve out in the wild I'd love to see it! Cheers!

I have been looking for a sleeve to protect my (space gray) and my wife's (gold) rMB since it was released. I have been a huge fan of Pack & Smooch (previous macbook sleeves and iPhone sleeves owner) and after my search I decided to order one of their custom made sleeves for my precious rMB.

Since my last purchase, the sleeves have improved to now include a magnetic closure. There are no zippers that can potentially scratch the macbook. It is still made of high quality wool and tanned leather to give you grip when holding the sleeve. The cut is precise and exact to the 12" rMB.

The sleeve is clean and simple without adding much bulk but at the same time providing protection. It also includes a pocket to fit some papers or the power adapter.

Attention to detail is similar to Apple. The design is well thought out to now include a small opening (without looking like it was cut out of nowhere) to allow the laptop to charge while completely stored in the sleeve. The look is stylish and works well as a stand alone sleeve or one where you slide it in your bag.

I ordered it from amazon.com this time to see if the shipping would be faster from Germany and it took just over a week to arrive but of course delivery times might differ depending on where you live. But considering it is handmade and imported from Germany, shipping is fast.

This is the one I got. I love it. There's an area where you could plug in the USB-C charger while it's in the case. A slot big enough for an iPad in the back. I have one for my rMBP and now I'm getting the same one for the Macbook. It looks clean and professional.

This is the one I just ordered. Really like that you can charge in the case and has the magnetic section to keep it closed. Thanks :)
