The regular Montevina processors and chipsets are launching in July, whereas the SFF (small form factor) Montevina processors and chipsets are not launching until September.

I wonder how this would affect the new Macbooks we're anticipating.

I'm also in a dilemma. I want a macbook. I was planning on purchasing it during tax free weekend in North Carolina, which happens to fall on August 1-3 this year.

I'm hoping the update happens on the 29th. But what if the update happens on the 5th. Is is better to buy the new laptop minus the tax savings or get the current laptop with the tax savings.

Thanks.

Apparently during the Quarterly conference call they discussed price cutting to "Remove the Umbrella" they are holding for their competitors. You may end up with a new version at a lower price by waiting. BWDIK.;)

Isn't Sony's Z series (with a form factor in between the MacBook and the Air) due in August?

I'm unfamiliar with the "cut-off" so to speak for the "Small Form Factor." Do all 13.3" laptops require this, whereas 15" (and larger) laptops use the normal form factor version? Or what?

I'm curious bout that as well. I wonder if these SFF Montevina chips are just designed for MBAir-like bodies alone. I hope so. That would mean the July Montevinas will be inside the new Macbooks. Because Europe uses smaller cars, manual transmission, and diesel in the long run is a lot better then regular...also, their fuel is much more refined...I think the minimum is a octane level of 95, while ours is like 85.
In New Zealand, it's 91/96/98.

Or a significantly better version for the same price. Either way, we win.

well...

The Apple website hasn't changed today, so hopefully July 29 but most likely August 5.

The printer rebate deal that ended yesterday is still on the website, so maybe when they change that they will update the rest of the site! :)

Wishful thinking, I know.

I thought of this a long time ago.

In 2006, the Mac Pro was released on August 7.
In 2007, the iMac was redesigned on August 7.
In 2008, the MacBook and MacBook Pro will be redesigned on August 5? I also think August 12 is another possibility, simply due to iPod event dates.

i just noticed today they took off the "new Macbook Pro" intro and also the macbook

What are you talking about? I don't see anything changed that hasn't been pointed out already... Sorry if I'm being dense.

yea i know the ad "new macbook pro" is still there but if you go from the home page and click on mac at the top content and then click mac book pro, it usually shows that intro page that says "Nimble" really big but recently they took it off.

I think they mean the 'new' tag on the main apple store page - like the one the iPhone has right now. At least thats how I read it when it was mentioned before.

I don't think so. He explained something different in his reply.

I like your username though.

So I got the Black MacBook for my birthday recently, but haven't opened it yet.. Question is, should I wait for the new MacBook to be released? And will the updated model cost more than the "old" MacBooks do today? Another question: Will the new MacBooks be released worldwide, or just in the US (I live in Norway).

1. That is really an opinion. I, personally, am waiting.
2. If anything, the updated model should cost less, but most likely the same.
3. I havfe no idea.

You know when I read your post it made me look a little more at those dates.

In 2006, they also updated the XServe and Mac Monitor on August 7th
In 2007, they also updated the MacMini on August 7th

so it could definitely be that day but what is also interesting was that August 7th 2006 was a Monday. I wonder if that was WWDC or something.
