A11X would make for a good MacBook, faster than the current Intel one.

With stock of both MacBooks and MBP Pros running down, I wonder if we will see an ARM MacBook incredibly early?

Well, we can wish.

More likely I guess, is that we’ll just see the new ‘MacBook Air’ stopgap (w/ a mid range fan processor) released as either a MBA (or as a much cheaper entry level MBP) and the MacBook line given a rest until it goes fully ARM.

Hey guys, so you think we can expect a new MBP 13"/15" or not?
I have an MBP 13" w touchbar 16gb ram 512gb ssd waiting for me in the shop (I don't really need the computer now) but I have the feeling and I'm scared that with my luck a new mbp 13" 4k with 8th gen Intel, new touch bar, new keyboard, battery life for 4 days will come lol

1. Wrong thread. This is a MacBook thread.

2. Yes a new 13” MacBook Pro is likely in a week and a half. 8th Intel quad-core CPU. No 4K screen, but that’s not necessary, since the screen is already Retina.

I realized after my message that I pick the wrong thread I'm sorry!
Thank you for your answer :)

I suppose it's possible that Apple has secretly been working on an Intel replacement chip very similar to the A11. No reason they couldn't take on Intel now, given how they are performing.

I could just see the presentation, saying how it makes sense across the board; Intel's time is over; don't be afraid of change; change is what Apples all about, etc. :D

I can’t believe there isn’t a single leak.

I need a new laptop but, I don’t want a laptop with Windows 10. And my 8 year old Dell is a brick that I’m sick of carrying around all these years.

8 days to go....argh!!!

DigiTimes isn't particularly reliable, but here we go nonetheless. This would suggest a 7 nm A12X (or A12) MacBook by this fall:

Pegatron likely to land new MacBook orders from Apple

Pegatron is likely to land orders from Apple to produce an ARM-based MacBook model, codenamed Star with a series number N84, according to industry sources.

I don’t think it’s real, Mark Gurman has said on Twitter that it’s not a MacBook and in fact the code nam refers to the new iPhone 6.1” screen.

I mean Jesus, look back at all the old rumours and distill from it, It was clearly the new iPhone with a. strange 6.1" Screen. There are multiple sources reported on the code name before. Sometimes I wish Ming was still reporting on Apple.

This could be Apple's answer to the Macbook Air - Why not have a new device that's:

- some new OS variant between iOS and macOS
- lock it down like most with iOS - no XCode or Android Studio complexities
- keyboard/mouse
- touch screen
- detachable or flippable screen (iPad ish)

Sell it for < 1K for the macbook air buyers, but come up with a pro version with more bells and whistles for more margins.

Keep MB and MBP on course for now.

My understanding is also that MicroLED is still at least a couple of years out. My point was whether Apple should skip OLED altogether on its notebooks and wait for MicroLED which fixes the ghost images and fading color problems. Now I had not heard that they were having so many problems with MicroLED. Do you know what they are?

There are quite a few good news coming from SID Display Week. We don't have 800ppi or other super display properties it once promised. But it is looking likely we could see some MicroLED suitable for Apple Watch in 2020 / 2021.

A new Bloomberg piece is casting doubt on new MacBooks or iPads next week. We shall see...

May be just new MacBook Pricing ( Thanks Intel ), My guess is that it is too early for 7nm A12x iPad.

Yeah, we'll see adjusted pricing across the line but we could also see the 12" MacBook refresh at WWDC. As for the A12X iPad Pro, you're right it's too early. Whether it means Apple will always stick to a refresh cycle of over 12 months is yet to be seen, personally I think it would make the most sense to stick with a Fall or perhaps a Spring release for the iPad Pros in order for the processor naming (and relative performance) to be in line with the iPhones.

Why would they alter prices at WWDC? I’m in the market for a 12” MacBook so I’m hoping updates are coming soon.

MacBooks might have a quiet spec update @ WWDC.

It seems the sub-$1000 MacBook Air-type-thing is going to be postponed until later in the year, but no mention of the MacBook line itself.

Hopefully they fix the keyboard. As for processors to beef it up a notch--they came out last year already. With an update, the processing should be rocking for a notebook of that size.

Same here.

None of the rumors is supporting a MB refresh in June. "Soon" is probably September at the earliest now, unless there's a surprise tomorrow (which is always possible, given the nature of rumors).

Yea I know which is why I don’t see them reducing prices at WWDC, maybe silent MacBook update after the keynote or later in the week?

We will soon know tomorrow if there are any products because the Apple site will go down before the keynote.

Yes (we will soon know). If nothing else it will be interesting to see the next steps for MacOS, iOS and wOS.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Intel has released an update for the type of ultra-low power processors the MacBook uses, so there is nothing to update to. I hope I'm wrong, because I am looking at getting a MacBook and if the specs are bumped up it would be an easier decision for me.

Yes, this seems to be the case; nothing to update it to. It's rather unfortunate for MacBook users at this point, but not that big of a deal. I would like another port on the right side though, thanks :)

They don't need to officially make an announcement prior to Apple releasing their refresh, Apple already have access to the processors and at this stage are at the testing stage of the new MacBook (or probably further at this point). If Apple choose the m3 over the i5 again then the starting clock speed could be 1.5-1.6GHz. Overall it's quite significant even if there isn't a core increase with the y-series this year.

After the keynote, I went to the local Apple Store and picked up the entry-level MacBook. Came home within the hour. Very, very happy with this tiny machine. Fun fact: I'm upgrading from a 2006 15" MacBook Pro. Yup, that's right.

Well....Intel has said no volume until 2019, so we are sort of settling in for the long haul here. :D Make yourself comfortable.
