Should be relatively soon after the announcement.

If they’re months away from shipping, Apple’s months away from announcing.

Yeah, the only thing apple pre-launched months ahead of time, in recent memory, would be the mac-Pro demos. I don't see that happening with a consumer product.

Agreed. Apple does pre-announce when it suits their purposes: Mac Pro, Home Pod, Apple Watch, Air Power but only when there’s no real downside. Pre-announcing MacBook models by months would just nosedive/flatline current sales. We old timers call it the Osbourne effect.

Which just says to me that it's really an issue with software implementation and not an issue with the Touch Bar being useless.

Touchbar is quite usefule in browsers, iwork suite, MS office, a few other types of media production applications, some IDEs, some terminal applications, and a few others.

But yeah, we can definitely use more application support for TB, seems like an ripe opportunity for many devs, if we have TB on the 12" this coming week.

Is the iPhone XR not recent enough for you? ;)

Availability over 6 weeks (1.5 months) after announcement.

haha, it seemed like they were just having some delays in production, so couldn't time XS and XR at the same time (although they needed to announce at the same event). I meant in the cases where they were actually intentional.

They might just update processors of Macbook and iMacs in the store, no need for a space in the event for minor updates.

so...what the hell?? who will buy now 12" MB ?? with those specs and higher price

I'm quite horrified that they've kept the old name - presumably because the people that buy the Air know the name but still, very unlike Apple who always like to move forward. Also here in the UK, the 512GB is only £350 cheaper than the 512GB TB MacBook Pro which has the P3 wide colour gamut screen and is truly a better machine in every way. I'm truly confused with Apple's pricing structure here as now, all three machines are also the same price.

Certainly not for me. I love the 12" design and keyboard right up the edge design. I've had the 2015, 16 and currently 17. Will the MacBook get a new design in 2019? Will it be the first with ARM technology? Who knows, but what is certain is that the MacBook Pro seems to be the one to go for now in laptops and I'm under the impression that Apple are more excited with iPad Pro's now.

Most likely stores will drop the price lower. Best Buy was selling the air for $799. When it was $999 pretty frequently. Maybe they will put the MB for $999.

Kind of bummed the price points and basic upgrades after 6-7 years. How long has it been 8gb ram and 128gb HDD?

Just £50 difference in the UK, £1199 for the base Air and £1249 for the base Macbook.

Unless saving every bit of size and weight possible is that important to you the Air is the wise choice for sure.
oh,, not just the size is different...but the air starts with 128ssd...while the 12" MB starts with 256

No MB updates on Store.

New Air is up and MBP has 8th Gen now.

Damn!
I remember one time the silent update didn't happen until many hours later, but at this point that seems too optimistic.

I guess I purchased my 12" MacBook at the right time back 16 months ago. 16 months ago! OTOH, if the Retina MacBook Air had existed back then, I might have considered it. It's bigger than the 12" MacBook, but significantly smaller than the old 13" Air.

BTW, anyone know what the CPU of the Retina Air is? I can't seem to find it. It's 8th gen 1.6 GHz with 3.6 GHz turbo and UHD 617.

Note the MacBook Air only has a 128 GB SSD. But yeah, the base MacBook needs to either be updated or the price needs to be dropped, or both.

I'm waiting for @Dave245 to ask if there's a new MacBook coming in 2019! This line up is so confusing now.
I've decided on my next machine though - 13" MacBook Pro TB with 1TB.

Nope, I’m good with this new Air. Once I get chance to check everything out including specs the new Air is what I’ll end up getting.

No way!!!!!! The MacBook Pro is such a nicer machine. I'm hating this Air. Pricing horrible, bigger version of the MacBook 12 but not as chic. Not for me.
But at least I've made up my mind for my 12" replacement :) Mind you, i'd kind of decided on that yesterday at the Apple store :)
