Where's the rose gold option for the MacBook

The old gold is also gone.

The MacBook has now the same gold as other products and is not available for in store pickup, but delivery starts November 6. No updated internals though.

No way!!!!!! The MacBook Pro is such a nicer machine. I'm hating this Air. Pricing horrible, bigger version of the MacBook 12 but not as chic. Not for me.
But at least I've made up my mind for my 12" replacement :) Mind you, i'd kind of decided on that yesterday at the Apple store :)

Not everyone needs the power of the Pro, it would be a waste for someone like me. The Air is a nice machine and this new Air has kept the same design but updated it. Personally I like it :) Use it alongside an iPad Pro and it will be a great combination I’m thinking.

The MacBook Air is still 35% heavier than the MacBook, but has Thunderbolt USB C x 2. And while it has a bigger footprint than the MacBook, it's significantly smaller than before. Plus, even though it's likely another Y-series CPU, it's probably also significantly faster than the MacBook Y series.

So, I think the 13" MacBook will end up being quite popular.
Nope, I’m good with this new Air. Once I get chance to check everything out including specs the new Air is what I’ll end up getting.

Plus the new MacBook Air has 13 hours of video playback and 12 hours of wireless web, which I believe is better than the 12” MacBook and MacBook Pro. I’m liking the new Air, I don’t know if the processor and specs are better than the 12” MacBook BUT I don’t plan on video editing or anything like that on it.

This isnt the air...its just the love from Apple to make a lot of confusion
This 13" looks 99% design of the 12" MB
Its just the bigger brother with a second usbC that MB fans wanted
Same display design, same keyboard, same port....
12 and 13" Macbook, 13 and 15" Macbook Pro it was such an cleaner naming for the line

At a guess I'd imagine probably a TDP-up version (to 7W) hence the included active cooling? The only downside (seemingly) is the UHD 617 graphics which come with Y series chips is quite basic.

this is why I'm still on the fence about the new Air. I don't think would be an "upgrade" from the 12" MacBook which I love.

Still on the fence as well. I need to get a notebook in next couple of months (latest by early Jan), and it would be painful if an updated Macbook came out a few months after that. IF they did update the specs on the MB in November, for sure that would be the one for me.

The processor in the new MB Air is most definitely better than the ones in the 12" MacBook, but the question is how long it can maintain that performance.

I hope they upgrade the 12" MacBook to 2 Thunderbolt ports. That would please a lot of people, even if they didn't do much else.

The form factor of 12” MacBook is just perfect, TBH. The only thing I want in it is a faster CPU for compiling apps in Xcode. This new Air isn’t that much smaller than the 13” MBP. Kind of disappointing. I still want to play around with it once Apple stores start carrying them.

"This new Air, isn't that much smaller than the 12" MB??
It isn't smaller at all...the air is an 13.3" display

I agree, the Air simply does not need to exist. 12" MacBook is PERFECT in its size and the MacBook Pro is only £350 more than the Air BUT is only 0.4 heavier, BETTER SCREEN in every respect P3 Wide Colour Gamut 500 nits as opposed to 300, True Tone, Quad Core.
In reality, I'm angry to see the Air name - it's old, hideous in fact and now adds to confusion when a person buys a laptop. It's the opposite to what Steve Jobs did when he reappeared at Apple and cut the complete product line. Remember he got ride of everything and started fresh - iMac and G3 Tower then iBook, Titanium Pro laptop. Now Apple is full of everything including old dinosaurs - old MacBook Air, old iPhone 7, 8 old iPad Mini 4 - the product line is getting obese.

Hopefully 12" MacBook will get the touch ID next year and the T2 chip and maybe ARM. AND, a 1TB option.

But what the heck is the 1.5TB option for the Air? That's pushing it to £2400 MORE than the 13" TB MacBook Pro with 1TB.

I am more than perfectly happy with my 2017 12" MacBook -- great travel companion, fun to use around the house! That size just cannot be beaten in so many ways. The ONLY thing that I would say would be a nice addition to the current 12" MacBook would be a second USB-C port, but seriously, for the ways in which I use that machine it is not really a big deal at all. I am certainly not contemplating replacing my lovely 12" MB with this year's new MBA! I loved the original first-generation MacBook Air -- it really was revolutionary and a true delight -- and I love my current 2017 MB for many of the same reasons, but especially the light weight and the slim profile and the amazing portability.

It looks like the Air has a fan inside, look at this article and scroll down to the picture that shows the presenter, behind her is the internals of the Air and it clearly shows a fan. https://www.engadget.com/2018/10/31/macbook-air-intel-processor-cooling/

I’m guessing that means it will be capable of more sustainable loads than the 12” MacBook?
Yes, as it’s processor has a higher clock speed as it has turbo boost, and also a 7W TDP instead of 5W.

Also having an 8th gen processor adds compared to the MacBook having 7th gen ones.

That said, I rather have a 13’3” or 14” MacBook without a fan instead of a MacBook Air. I sincerely rather have thermal throttling than a more powerful MacBook with a fan. They just add noise and weight and nowadays power shouldn’t have to come at that cost (look at the iPad Pro).

No guarantee it will be another year. For all we know, it could be in January or whatever.
It was really weird they updated the colour options to the iPhone 8 set but didn't otherwise make any changes. Makes me wonder if the MacBook might become the iBook as soon as the spring release window (March-April)?

Impressive! Not. Still feeling like a genius for buying the 2017 Core m3 16 months ago...
