Since the laptop fanboys always spam the Macpro rumor threads with spam about notebooks, I'd like to take this opportunity to say:

MAC PRO UPDATE PLEASE. There has been exactly ONE update in the last 27 months. Gimme a break.
+1

However. On a second thought. The Intel Light Peak [codename] technology should be available this year, and thus waiting a few more months is fine by me... if only Apple confirmed the rumors first.

I have been waiting since august it's almost august again. Please apple put me out of my misery!

Dear Apple:

We are ENTITLED to new Macbook Pro models!

The one's we bought in June have all mysteriously stopped working and are now useless!

Wow, you really have issues. Apple has been negligent in keeping pace w/ refreshing the MB line and you use sarcasm to deflect.

You seem like a pathetic mama's boy who's afraid to stray from the line of sight of your sainted mama. And whenever she's held to the same non-god standards of (hu) man, you attack the mesenger. You're a real gem, you are. You'd be a perfect suicide bomber. No doubt you'd give your life for Apple just to feed your insecure, selfish ego to consider yourself a martyr.

Please please please drop the super drive! Even an SD-card slot would be more useful. Oh well, I'm pretty sure neither will happen. Instead we will probably see Blu-ray and are stuck to that piece of **** media for a long time if Apple decide to support it now :(

I see lots of comments about resolution but non about colors!

If I'm not mistaken Apple is still pulling the old con job regarding colors supported as opposed to colors actually displayed.

My 2 year old MBP 17 can only display thousands of colors making critical graphics work impossible.

Anyone got any comments about this? I for one would rather see more colors displayed than increased resolution.

AFAIK OSX still does not support the TRIM command which means OSX+SSD= FAIL. Or am I wrong?

I had a similar concern and it's been addressed fairly well here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/888129/ Basically, it seems too much of a nuisance for what you're paying, but if the SSD has garbage collection, it may be worth it.

I wonder if Apple could do a "one more thing" at the end of their iPhone presentation on Thursday...

About time. Apple seems to be concentrating to much on making "Mattel's my first hand held computer" at the moment.

Wasn't Apple a computer designing company a while back?

I hope they get rid of the black keyboard. It was so much better when the silver keyboard matched the Aluminum body.
totally would love some 1920x1200 on my 15" model that im buying, i hope they do the back to school thing immediately and not wait until the late summer, so i can get the deals and get my macbook immediatley
I think 1680x1050 is more likely to happen if anything.
The Mobile i7 & i5 chips as far as I'm aware are still dual core, just more performance boots about 12%-18% so its not massively substantial. My 2.53Ghz C2D 13'' MBP would more than likely compensate with its 7200RPM 500GB Hard drive and its 8GB RAM :D
They have quad core mobile i5s and i7s, they're called Clarksfield. They use a lot of power for notebook chips and have relatively low clock speeds. People thought they were going to be in the iMac but they ended up using Lynnfield, the desktop equivalent of that..
Not really - multiples of 8 often, but not powers. Look at Newegg's lineup:

Capacity
  • 8GB power of 8
  • 16GB factor of 8
  • 24GB factor of 8
  • 30GB neither
  • 32GB factor of 8
  • 40GB neither
  • 48GB factor of 8
  • 60GB neither
  • 64GB power of 8
  • 80GB factor of 8
  • 100GB neither
  • 120GB factor of 8
  • 128GB factor of 8
  • 160GB factor of 8
  • 200GB factor of 8
  • 250GB neither
  • 256GB factor of 8
  • 500GB neither
  • 512GB power of 8
  • 1TB factor of 8
I think a better way he could have said it was powers of 2 (2 4 8 16 32 64 128 512 1024 etc)

Apple Daily

Uhm, this is not to bring down anyone's hopes or anything, but Apple Daily isn't an Apple computer news or fan site.

If you look at the top 5 news on the front page (I'll translate), it says:
1. 3D TV available next month, perfect for pr0n movies!
2. Robert Fan [Taiwanese actor] posted private sexy photos of ex on the web!
3. Suffocated by penis in mouth!
4. Sexy vet storms Japan!
5. Four men rapes young girl and brag about it!

The news about MacBooks isn't even on the front page.

I think Apple has shown that it considers the 17" MBP as the real pro production laptop due to the express card slot and screen resolution. The 15" is treated more like a mainstream laptop.

I'm not saying they shouldn't do it. I think for all the reasons you stated they should make a higher resolution 15" MBP as a custom order. I just think their track record on the 13" and 15" MBP speaks for itself which is why they won't.

In reply to both posters, as to why It appears to me that apple is trying to keep their line simple and follow a pricing level similar to the automaker Honda who offers base models, mid level, and high end and other than minor options little else.

I doubt they will change it either, but they really need a upper tier consumer line that they seem to have divided the majority of the line in to.
with the macbooPro representing the bottom tier consumer unit for the low end, and the 17' mitakenly beig the only true pro unit , with the semi downgrade of the 15" into semi pro territory.

If apple would offer the base macbook in multi colors and turn the 13", and 15" "pro" with integrated graphics into say macbook silver, And then reintroduce the exprescard into the 15 inch and if possibke the 13 inch with say no superdrive and a discrete graphics card taking its place that would make a decent "pro" line

I personally want a tiny ultra portable powerhouse, like say an i5 with a discrete graphics card and no integrated for example. I know I am dreaming, but who knows Maybe they will surprise us say tomorrow and intriduce these things I am getting tired of waiting.

Culture gap...

But fewer than half are powers of 2. And none are powers of two when you consider that they are really decimal GB, not binary GiB. ;)

There's nothing binary about a disk device, other than the fact that most disk sizes are multiples of the 2^9 sector size.

The odds of mbps being updated in April are zero. The iPad 3G ships later in April and Apple will not let anything focus away from that. I predict the update will happen in early June. In Oct - Nov 2010 the mbps will again receive a minor refresh (bumping up the miminum specs) in time for the holidays.

impossible to argue with your reasoning, i totally agree.

That's like saying "I speak fluent Canadian"
Actually, it's more like saying, "I speak fluent Scandinavian," where the language in question is actually a family of related varieties that may or may not be considered separate languages. (Whether they are or aren't matters little, since we are not consistent with our definition of "language"--compare, for example, these very two examples: Chinese versus Swedish/Danish/Norwegian.)

That being said, clearly, the writer meant that he (she?) had a grasp of modern standard written Chinese, which is usually the same regardless of whatever the native Chinese language/dialect of the original speaker is (and which resembles Mandarin).

But, I digress. Even though I won't be buying a new MacBook or MacBook Pro for a while (I have the original aluminum MacBook and it's still going strong), this--if true--should be exciting, if not overdue, for those who are. :D

Apple doesn't make the panels, so as far as I know it'll be the panel makers that introduce a display that can show more than 6 or 8bits.

I couldn't care less about the colors displayed on the laptop, NO ONE that claims to be doing color critical works should be doing it on a laptop screen.

.....

If apple would offer the base macbook in multi colors and turn the 13", and 15" "pro" with integrated graphics into say macbook silver, And then reintroduce the exprescard into the 15 inch and if possibke the 13 inch with say no superdrive and a discrete graphics card taking its place that would make a decent "pro" line .....

I think the real issue is with the names Apple gives their laptops. There are a lot of Macrumors members that blindly follow the word "PRO" at the end of the name. For instance, spewing nonsense like: "The Macbook shouldn't be used for PRO work," or "I am going to get the base model 13" Macbook Pro because it's better than the Macbook."

When you take that word out, and look at the hardware, there's nothing PRO about any of Apple's laptops. Save for integrated graphics and speed bumps in CPU speed they are exactly the same. When you look at other dealers like Dell or HP, they make laptops with 16GB RAM, quad core chips, dual GPUs, and outrageous price-tags and call them mobile workstations, and the name fits.

Many would like Apple to make a 15" Macbook for around $1299, or go back to the iBook/Powerbook type lineup, but I doubt it'll happen.

I know that at least HP and Dell have wider color gamuts in their professional line.

And then there's the much loved, new Sony Z which has 96% AdobeRGB coverage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPKZ2S_Jm-g&feature=player_embedded

Hopefully the new MBP's will come close to these.

...but how does this apply to the iPad?

...j/k!

This is the best news I've heard in a long time. If the MBA is updated, I am 99.9999% sure it'll be my next laptop.

I second that. I have a hard time spending nearly $2000 on an almost 2 year old CPU archetecture

HP Envy 15

I was waiting to get a MacBook Pro, but I went ahead and got an HP Envy 15...

Anti-glare 1920x1080 Display + 6GB DDR3 RAM + Dual SSDs + Mobile Core i7-720QM + ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830 for ~$3000 (with a $450-off coupon)

Even if you COULD get that with a MBP, it'd cost $10,000!!!
