If this is true: Not as great of an upgrade as I would have expected from Apple. However, any upgrade would be nice.
I'll believe it when I see it, and then wait a month to buy (for all the bugs to get fixed)!
;)

The bit about the SSD options is interesting. I am hoping SSD will be a cheaper BTO option now with a more reliable, faster SSD drive in there.

Unfortunately this will be hard to tell from the specs as this is something people usually have to crack open the new machines to find out.

AFAIK OSX still does not support the TRIM command which means OSX+SSD= FAIL. Or am I wrong?

YES. This needs to happen, many PC notebooks have 1900x1200 15" screens, it's pathetic that Apple's "pro" 15" MBP does not.

I can see 1900x1200 on a 17", though I still think that's the highest usable resolution with the way OS X currently operates. But 1900x1200 on a 15"? That just won't happen with this update, or for a long time. The most you could expect now is 1680x1050 on a 15". And I'd be surprised if Apple does that with this update.

It is important to note that the source is Apple Daily Taiwan. While the article in question in on the business section, Apple Daily, as a whole (it has operations in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and owns newspapers and magazines), is known to sensationalize reports, and sometimes making things up. I find no reason to question the authenticity of this article, but we should take it with a grain of salt.

I want to see a new MBP as soon as possible too, but I am not too sure about the source's reliability. Let's hope it is true!

Thanks for the translation. Good to know.

I'm sure that the moment the new MBP comes available, one of the 30 different media streams i'm tapped into (including this one) will be announcing it. I'm guessing it will be kind of hard to ignore or miss.

Sooner would be better, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

I don't understand why anyone would want one of these things. A MacBook Pro is nothing but an expensive iPad with a fancy processor and a typewriter attached.

There is a need for MBPs: it is a mobile video editing studio, if you have the proper equipments. Without my MBP setup, I would be tied down to an editing bay often.

Don't claim you are speaking for the masses, please. You may very well have no need for an MBP, but maybe a lot of people do.

I know I do.

I'd be willing to bet an iPad that he's kidding around :)

What about the Mac Pro, Apple?

Still waiting for the professional workstation to be announced. I am on the market for a professional config (4Tb HD, 16Gb Ram, NVidia Mac 4800,...) and I still have to wait and wait and wait... Getting ridiculous now... I know they are working on it but when it comes to MY needs I want they fulfilled RIGHT NOW!

I'm taking a back seat to this rumor. The only 1 thing good we can say is now that the I-toy, I mean pad is out in the open. Perhaps we can get back to real business. Everything else was put on hold for this game pad/book reader. Don't won't to come across angry but these Macbooks are way over due. Looking forward to some real power in my hands.

Amen to that!

I think he was being sarcastic
He made me laugh!

You must have eyes like a hawk or your face is 2 inches away from the screen:p

I want a new mini.

however looking at current technology its hard to see what they can do with the mini apart from USB3

I doubt apple are going to put 4GB & 8GB in its 2 Superdrive models as standard
Ion 2 isnt much of a performance improvement over the 9400 performance wise (I Hear its all battery)
The core i series cpu's are not the huge leap we believed.
I can see apple putting 250GB & 500GB in though.
maybe hdmi?

4. MBA will use UM version of processor
UM not LM?

I guess they're trying to reduce heat and conserve battery life… and another reason may be the large Turbo Boosts on the UMs.

Code:
CPU Clock Turbo 2C Turbo 1C
620UM 1.07GHz 1.73GHz 2.13GHz
640UM 1.20GHz 1.87GHz 2.27GHz

620LM 2.00GHz 2.53GHz 2.80GHz
640LM 2.13GHz 2.67GHz 2.93GHz

SL9400 1.87GHz
SL9600 2.13GHz

The UMs have a 500 MHz integrated GPU in contrast to the 567 MHz of the LMs and the 767 MHz of the regular Arrandales.

I'm willing to drop serious $$$ if we have a 15 inch MBP with;
-core i7 processor
-all black unibody design
-matte screen
-without superdrive
-over 10 hours battery life per charge
-intel ssd option
-nvidia optimus technology

Good list. I would love to see a HDMI port also. Even netbooks have this now days. Using converter and 2 cable is just not the apple way :) i want simplicity and less hassle.
And i would specially love it if Apple could bring back the matte screen.

The odds of mbps being updated in April are zero. The iPad 3G ships later in April and Apple will not let anything focus away from that. I predict the update will happen in early June. In Oct - Nov 2010 the mbps will again receive a minor refresh (bumping up the miminum specs) in time for the holidays.

Do you believe that is true even if it's only a i5 and graphics upgrade? Yes I know if that was all it should have happened by Jan. But..... I can see a non-hype minor upgrade release anytime he feels like it.

I hope I get paid for this. :p

First of all, Apple Daily is a Hong Kong newspaper, though it's quoting reports from Taiwan sources.

Notes of interests from the report:
1. New MBPs, MacBooks and MBA are going to be released in April
2. The new notebooks will use Intel Core i3, i5 or i7
3. There is a delay of launch from March to April due to i5 Processor shortage
4. MBA will use UM version of processor
5. MacBook Pro will have 13, 15 and 17 inch (no change from now)
6. MBPs will have 640GB HDDs or 248GB SSDs
7. MBP battery life will be 8 hours
8. Uses unibody enclosure

Not much of difference from the translated version actually. Hope this helps

rather disappointing :(

Finally a Mac-related rumor... Hope it's true... :D I want the new MBP!
