I really, really hope this is fake..

Nowadays it's so easy to edit an image, so it looks a 100% real... Let's hope somebody has done that to this picture, because Apple would really disappoint a lot, imo.

I don't get it why everyone thinks the update is worthless. It now has an up-to-date processor, the HD4000 isn't that bad (yeah yeah integrated isn't everything, dedicated graphics would be nice) and USB 3.0 is a nice addition.
The main problem is the aging 1280x800 resolution.

Still it would be a nice computer for most 'normal' users that sometimes need the optical drive and ethernet. The 'pro-moniker' was thrown away years ago compared to the 15" MPB.

ya not jsut that some think now its only worht $700, even though its better (slightly) that the ones selling for 1200 today

It is a fake for sure

The image says "Preinstalled Mac OS X and iLife" but Apple now calls the system just OS X. To be true the spec should say "Preinstalled OS X and iLife"

The devil it's in the details... :p

For me, there are two main problems with this spec:

  1. 1280x800 resolution
  2. 5400rpm HDD as standard (instead of SSD with a large HDD as BTO option)
Also, I will be disappointed if they don't go to a thinner and lighter form factor by losing the ODD.

USB 3.0 throws me into the non-believer camp.

Actually USB 3.0 is clear evidence that this is NOT fake - Apple has never refused to use USB 3.0; it was simply waiting for native MOBO support from Intel, which is now available via Ivy Bridge.

I've said it before and will say it again: the announced specs are ABSOLUTELY realistic and true - Apple hasn't over-delivered in the Mac arena for at least 10 years now.

But why not thunderbolt?

I'm in the camp that feels this is the lower end MBP, and the retina screen is a BTO option. makes a lot more sense for apple to get the extra buck for the higher res screen, so in a year or two the y can then have "all macs are now retina, it's magical" two wow moments with one feature.

Well, mr cook did say that even if apple pisses people off they will continue buying. Maybe this is what he meant. No real upgrades, people complaining, but they will still continue buying

This might go for people who already are Apple customers, but what about the others? Apple needs to give them a reason to switch from their cheaper-but-good Windows machines. I don't think the IvyBridge CPU itslef will cut it, especially when 'Retina' Win8 laptops are behind the door. This 13" Pro is even less 'Pro' than the current generation.

Considering the costs involved, I can't see how retina displays could be added across the entire line. It may be a BTO option or it may only be coming next year.

What "retina display" Windows 8 laptops have been announced?

This is fake, an almost exact copy of this image came out last year as a supposed "leak." History just repeats itself...

Article of the 2011 "Spec Leak":
http://obamapacman.com/2011/02/leak...-specs/2011-thunderbolt-macbook-pro-13-specs/

Um, you do realize that ended up being real, right?

But why not thunderbolt?

Look at the image again- Thunderbolt is also listed ;)

Current MacBook Pro specs page says OS X Lion. Why would they use Mac OS X in a new spec sheet?

They wouldn't. It is a fake.

I really don't understand how people can be so stubborn...look at this picture from 2011:

Mbp13specs.jpg

Exactly the same wording back then is used in this case...the reference to "OS X" will probably apply to ML and beyond, NOT Lion as currently offered.

Give it up, people: the rumor reflects REALITY as much as the fact that Elvis is dead. No fantasies here.

One other thing people should note which is different to current packaging is the processor details.
Current Macs say:
2.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor;
3MB shared level 3 cache

On the proposed picture it says:
2.5GHz duel-core Intel Core i5 with 3MB
L3 cache (Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz)

Differences are:
Saying processor on the 2011 box.
Going onto a dedicated line for the L3 cache on the 2011 box.
Saying shared level 3 cache rather than just L3 cache on the 2011 box.
Not mentioning the turbo boost speeds on the 2011 box.

Other things of note are rather than saying just Intel HD Graphics 4000. on the 2011 box it says Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory.

For the people who say that the processor does not exist here it is

I love how everyone shouts fake due to the massive disappointment they are feeling.
Im really not sure what to think about this... With all the hype and Cook saying bigger and better things are coming this year I would be really surprised if there isn't a redesign but then again this does look very convincing and all the specs add up just right. Hopefully id this is the case the retina display as maybe and option you can pay extra for like the high res option atm. This sticker is just simply for a 13" macbook pro that doesn't have the new retina option with it.

What "retina display" Windows 8 laptops have been announced?

I agree that retina displays are not coming out now. I don't think OS X is ready for HiDPI mode and it's certain that third party apps are not ready. In fact if retina displays came out now I'd wait a while until software catches up. Non-retina assets will look terrible on a retina display.

Depressing that Apple isn't moving everything over to SSDs. This means no SSDs as standard equipment in iMacs and Minis. After having an SSD in my Air (just 64 GB), I wouldn't go back to a mechanical hard drive.
