1) Why would anybody bother faking these specs?
2) These specs are absolutely typical of what I would expect from Apple - when there is talk about new case design, retina display, etc etc etc - the reality is usually far more boring - and these specs easily match the sort of thing Apple end up releasing.

At least the introduction of USB 3 will be very welcome - given how widespread and cheap these devices are compared to Thunderbolt.

Still - wasting space and weight on the MacBook Pro range by including an optical drive is looking increasingly ridiculous. The success of the Mac App store, and the fact that even the majority of software available outside of the Mac App Store is available by download - makes optical drives, and certainly DVD's, obsolete, or at least sufficiently unnecessary to not include in a portable device.

I saw that before

Remember in 2010 when apple released 15 and 17 inch models with Core 5 and 7 and the 13 inch only received a nvidia 320M update keeping Core 2 Duo?

15 and 17 inch models may be completely different.

Tim Cook is just trying not be so different from Steve.

Here is why I believe it's fake:

If I caught it up right, Apple officially renamed Mac OS X to simply OS X with the introduction of Mountain Lion. Notice on the spec-sheet, it reads: "Preinstalled Mac OS X". Given the fact, that Apple looks at the simplest detail, I believe this is fake... I guess we will know more on June 11....

What?

If this is the new MBP I will keep my old MBP for another 1 or 2 years.
Sad!

I still hope this is a fake!!!

1) Fun to see how people react, particularly with so much hype on the upcoming MBPs.

2) That's what makes 1) even better

Price vs. Retina

So is everyone saying that 1280x800 on a 13" display isn't clear enough to use? Everyone is willing to spend hundreds of dollars more to have a retina display? I think not!

Apple needs at least one model that can somewhat compete on price, and the 13" would be the most likely candidate.

I am always amazed at the whining whenever something like this comes out. People just cannot accept the fact the computing has become incremental rather than revolutionary. What did they expect? A retina display, SSD and 3.5Ghz in the 13" MBP? And for $999.

The most exciting line in the spec is the USB3.0 ports. The fact that both are upgraded means that they have been accepted across the platform and that is great news.

Now if you want me to get excited, just show me an 8GB Air! The i7 Air and Thunderbolt Display combine to give me the almost the best Mac ever. If it had 8GB, it would hold that crown easily!

Apple would normally discretely update the line if it were this incremental, surely. I doubt they'd wait 'til WWDC to 'announce' something this small.

Expect to pay a 'premium" for Retina display on all models likely BTO or add on!! Rightly so!! in 3-6 years it will be standard as will SSD and something else will be the BTO, goes round in circles Apple people should know this.

NO way would apple give all these goodies USB3/RETINA/SSD on all models for free and current prices.

People forget Apple is a business and need to make money hence BTO ETC

Oh..

Oh, bring on the disappointment! Release an ugly iPhone with iOS6 that doesn't change anything, forget about the Mac Pro, and just bump up the specs for the rest of the devices!! Muhahah Steve is trolling from the grave :D

I think this is real. I think Apple will keep it around as a cheap laptop for the average joe. There used to be a fully featured laptop which cost £699 (white macbook) this is probably the replacement.

The 15" is going to get the real action, most if not all the rumours have been about the 15". Fine by me because I need at least a 15" screen, sucks for those waiting for a 13" though.

Was thinking either bulk sales educational model or fake.
If real its low end apple that's for sure.

I could be mistaken, but here is why I believe it's fake:

Given the fact, that Apple looks a the simplist detail, I believe this is fake... I guess we will know more on June 11....

More likely that it's preinstalled with Lion if Mountain Lion is going to be released later in the summer. It's still 'Mac OS X' for Lion.

It says it supports up to 4GB RAM, but do the current MacBooks not already support up to 8GB? (which is actually 16)
Would be another hint that this might be from an "education-type" entry-level device. Those always had lesser specs for cost reasons - remember e.g. the eMac...

The flip side of Apple's secrecy is it must drive marketing nuts to know customers are convinced the next release will be all WowShiny(TM) when it won't.

what a shame

Not enough for me to upgrade, and I'm in a 3.5 year old Al Macbook (the one without Firewire). The only way I'd consider it is if there's a non-glossy option.

I think the 13" is Apple's red-headed stepchild of the mobile line.

The very minimum I'd buy a 13" for in this age would be 1440x900

1280x800 is laughable right now

It might be real; here's why.

Apple isn't stupid. And they cater to the back-to-school crowd, which still uses the DVD drive to watch movies. All of the time. They're also more inclined to by the 13" Macbook Pro over any other model mac.

So I can see the new lineup looking like this:
11" MBA
13" MBA
15" MBA

13" Macbook Pro
17" Macbook Pro

Or maybe they keep the 11" and 13" Macbook Pro, and simply "redesign" the 15" Macbook Pro first, as they tend to do.

These displays will be a flagship feature, there is no way that they will make them BTO exclusively.

Mac OS X?

This print indicates it comes installed with Mac OS X, when Apple clearly dropped the 'Mac' from OS X. I call this fake for that fact. I think it's the fine print that the photoshopper missed when he printed this label out.

Also, how ironic that the bar code is just unrecognizable to not be scanned.

Then what is the point of Apple producing all those HiDPI icons and whatnot? It just doesn't make sense. That photo looks pretty real to me. I can't see them just doing a retina display on the 15" and not everything else. So much for that rumor!
