If this comes out, apple and the saying "always one step ahead of the competition" should be retired. This is more like 2-3 years behind the competition.
The 13" MBP won't even be able to support Metro multitasking in Windows 8 at that res, the 11" MBA is ahead of it in that regard.

Not enough for me to upgrade, and I'm in a 3.5 year old Al Macbook (the one without Firewire). The only way I'd consider it is if there's a non-glossy option.

I think the 13" is Apple's red-headed stepchild of the mobile line.

They are going to do with it what they have with other lines in the past - not upgrade it significantly and then say "we are discontinuing it because it isn't selling".

I am always amazed at the whining whenever something like this comes out. People just cannot accept the fact the computing has become incremental rather than revolutionary. What did they expect? A retina display, SSD and 3.5Ghz in the 13" MBP? And for $999.

True. But blame apple for hyping on would be possibilities :0

The most exciting line in the spec is the USB3.0 ports. The fact that both are upgraded means that they have been accepted across the platform and that is great news.

But other laptops had this for at least 3 years... and with the release of thunderbolt apple seems to be pushing us away from other connectors to go with the one that is the fastest. They even bloated this on their ads.

Now if you want me to get excited, just show me an 8GB Air! The i7 Air and Thunderbolt Display combine to give me the almost the best Mac ever. If it had 8GB, it would hold that crown easily!

For $999? Dream on

This print indicates it comes installed with Mac OS X, when Apple clearly dropped the 'Mac' from OS X. I call this fake for that fact. I think it's the fine print that the photoshopper missed when he printed this label out.

Also, how ironic that the bar code is just unrecognizable to not be scanned.

http://www.apple.com/macosx/mountain-lion/

It's dropped for Mountain Lion. It's still 'Mac OS X' for Lion.

I think the leak can be quite real.

The reason is that, with all the leaks we usually get when apple is about to launch a product, it's hard to believe that, less than a week out, we still haven't gotten anything with proof. And it's something that supposed to be totally different (different design, display, spec... basically a brand new product with an old name)

When something like this happens, usually it means that the product has no major difference that leakers can actually show us easily (remember iPhone 4s when many were expecting a brand new design? same thing)

My money is that this is real... as disappointing it might be.

I'd be embarrassed to present that at the WWDC.

It might just be a silent update. Let's see what happens. Perhaps they will make a Retina Display available, but only as an option on certain devices, like the 15" Pro.

This does tend to suggest we won't see a "Retina" Air, though.

WTF is "Turbo Boost?"

I remember in the Pentium 1-2 days you could push a giant button on the front of your PC called "turbo" and change the clock speed from 100 to 133MHz.

Is Apple really using some old PC term from the 90's?

Steve would be pissed.

Just a note, doesn't apple now call Mac OS X just OS X. The box says Mac OS X; does the current model say the same?

It's not Apple's term. It's Intel's.

Maybe this is a real leak meant to mislead us?

Maybe the idea is to temper our expectations, so that they're brought back down to Earth? So when Apple releases a slimmer model with a retina screen but with these internal specs, we're pleasantly surprised about what has been upgraded, rather than annoyed with what hasn't been?

Personally I don't care about retina however likely this is real simply because I will guess if retina comes it will be only on units with discrete graphics. That means if it comes it will be on a thinner 13" that dumps the optical drive so they can fit a graphics chip and more battery in it.

I just played with effects in Photoshop in hope of proving this was shopped. Unfortunately, it looks very real and some details like the fact that the label SKU (bottom right) and weight (2.06kg instead of 2.04kg) are slightly different make it look real :(.

I'd like to be proved this is an elaborate fake, but it's not looking good. Perhaps Apple would release only a redesigned 15" and keep the current 13" for a generation until the 13" MBA finally replaces it, kind of like the white MacBook that they kept alongside the Aluminium MacBook introduced in 2008.

Well if real the DVD is still there for everyone freaking out last week.

Isn't it their best selling one too?

If true, once again we see the PC maker that has openly marketed its mobile devices around a "post PC era" showing that it really is committed to killing the PC, even its own.

Here's to hoping it isn't true. I know you don't care about gaming Apple, but there are still other things to do with a device than going on Facebook and playing Angry Birds.

Its actually Intel's own term. And yeah, it will clock speeds up to that high depending how many cores are used if needed. Which is a great boost jump compare to the Dual core 2 and even the arrandale i5/7s

WHY? WHY? 1280x800?

Here I am, ready to buy a 13" Pro just to stick a cheap $400 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM in, but they force me to stick with the Air because it's the only 13" model with a decent screen.

At least they didn't go with 1366x768...

Then what is the point of Apple producing all those HiDPI icons and whatnot? It just doesn't make sense. That photo looks pretty real to me. I can't see them just doing a retina display on the 15" and not everything else. So much for that rumor!

They been experimenting on those since OSX tiger. Just preparing for the future i guess.. a WAY MORE DISTANT FUTURE.

Still shipping computers without an SSD would be stupid. It makes OS X a lot less fun.

Maybe, maybe not? The noise in the photo looks pretty uniform. To my eyes, there's nothing about it that looks really fake.

Here's a challenge - can you take that photo, edit it so that the specs are a bit more impressive, and then post the results? :)

Can anyone? Surely on a Mac-oriented forum there has to be some Photoshop wizard who could do this?

Well, the question isn't really whether or not this could be faked. Cuz, OBVIOUSLY, this could be faked!! Easily

The question is - could this be real?? Which is a hell of a lot more frightening if it is
