People this is SOOOOO Simple to fake.
Some guy has an i7 Laptop Hackintosh. He Puts the SMBIOS from a MacBook Pro, modifies the model integer to 6,1, Changes the Number of the OSX by changing a file (Can't remember which off of the top of my head). Runs Xbench. Bam.

Or it could all be reals :D

ok then folks? what do we think - if it is fake, would apple have it removed asap????

so, should we be hoping that it's taken down?

I need to see quad cores in a 15 inch before I buy. I need the cores for processing raw image files. I'm using a 40 mpx cam so I need horsepower

What i really wait- thats Open CL support on every major applications....Final Cut, logic, Aperture. That's be really great...:apple:

Intel's new chips

Guys, here's a quick excel file I made to compare the new processors. The arrandale chips are on the 32 nm size and the clarkdale are on the 45 nm size.

maybe maybe=) it's really wery simple to do. I know how it works because i have a hackintosh a month ago and use it 2 years=) and i know Netkas to=)

If you're going to fake this, why not just change the numbers in Photoshop or write a script to output some numbers in the same format rather than making a fake computer? The weak link here would be the document, not the program.

Faking Geekbench

The consensus in this forum and all over the net seems to be that it's legit. Fakeing it wouldn't be trivial.
Everybody is saying that faking Geekbench is difficult but I do not share this opinion. When you click the "submit" button it simply sends a HTTP post to the site with the values. It is very easy to capture the HTTP post, modify it and replay the HTTP post:

Code:

If this is a true benchmark I'm gonna guess a "spec" update Tuesday the 9th.

An engineer wouldn't have done that unless it was coming out real soon.

If it is a rumor generating trial balloon, it is a new style not employed before. If it is an overzealous engineer, there is no assurance MacBook Pro 6,1 will be released as dual core at all or if so that a primary configuration is an underclocked (variable clocked) quad core.

If this is a real heads-up, maybe something Superbowl related to show the "three devices" Apple showed at the news conference. iPhone, iPad, MacBook.

So, how fast are we talking here? I mean those Geekbench scores look ridiculous...

But Geekbench really isn't everything. 2.5 years ago I switched from a MBP to the new 7,1 iMac, and haven't regretted since. iPhone replaced my need for a portable, mostly, and the iMac offered a lot more power/size for less $.

2.5 years later, I love the unibody MBPs, nicest thing Apple has ever produced, but the internals have been disappointing IMO. Not that they haven't been good, but they haven't taken the leaps and bounds I've expected. I've yet to see a MacBook Pro that could actually challenge my almost 3 year old iMac in many of my common heavier duty tasks. However, the supposedly "good" ATI2600HD Pro graphics card is proving to be almost worthless in Snow Leopard. Expose, Top Sites, and iTunes suffer somewhat.

Now, if this i7 benchmark is real, and its part of an affordable 15" MBP, it would be the first one I've seen to make me consider switching back from desktop to notebook...

But unless Apple offers some compelling software updates on the Mac, I may just keep the old iMac for another 3 years and get an iPad instead.

I just hope the new MBP sport an ATI GPU. 58xx or 56xx. It can be BTO, but I hope its an option.

I really think it would be a major mistake on apple's part not to try to keep u with newer graphic capabilities right now. I would totally drop 2 grand from tax return season to get my hands on a solid 15".

Maybe, and I don't know enough on architecture of computers to be quoted, it's possible to restrict usage of a good independent card. What I mean is only have it available when hooked into the wall. Any worthy successor of the 9400m I have in my original pre-pro 13" aluminum macbook would be fine. That card does it all reasonably well. Pump it out apple, a few of us are really hoping you can come through on this one. new macbook pro over ipad anyday for me

I think the ATI 56xx has the same power draw, or even less than the current 9600m GT. So it can easily be used with much better performance. Correct me if I am wrong. I do realize that Apple doesn't do BTO on GPU. I was too excited I just hope they offer it on the high end as I want the top of the line 15" that Apple offers.

I think the ATI 56xx (maybe a different ATI 5xxx) has the same power draw, or even less than the current 9600m GT. So it can easily be used with much better performance. Correct me if I am wrong. Do you think - bang for buck based - that you'd buy a top spec end of line current MBP or refurb just as these come out, or would you end up losing long term when it comes to selling it on?

Its kind of odd that I'm more excited about battery life than processor power on these things

I'd never buy a top end model just before I knew an update was coming. Refurbs are something else but I usually don't look at them because my Educational discount gives pretty much the same amount off and works on the newest machines out.

The problem for me is definitely the battery life. Other i7 based laptops have only managed 3 hours on a full charge which is pretty paltry compared to current MacBook Pros. Unlike other MBP releases, this is one that I wouldn't be tempted to jump on straight after launch - I'd want to wait for some respectable reviews first.

I got a new midrange MBP yesterday to appease myself.. I've got 14 days for the exchange at BB for the new model. Silver members don't have to pay the restocking fee. :-D I am really hopeful for a refresh.

Chris

Wow, you really are impatient!;) I am hanging on in there!
