m2 was presented in June, so now it was placed in the iPad pro without fanfare, m2 pro and m2 max are much more advanced processors than m2 and apple will want to show them off, as amd, intel, nvidia do
Only if the M2 Pro/Max are coming out on the 3nm fabrication. Which if the MacBook Pros debut next month they likely won’t be.

If it’s still on the 5nm node then it’ll be a minor spec bump and not worth the fanfare.

i've had external HDD's fail in the past from a weird unmount or mount
it's also fairly annoying to do something on your laptop in bed or on the couch and have an ext hdd attached with a cable
having to think through what to keep in external storage vs not is a big pain imo
APFS? Format it with HFS+. Because of issues with APFS and mount/unmount under Monterey, Big Sur.

Why would they reveal how little there appears to the eye inside? AS has made the parts on these minuscule, the only thing to really see is a metal plate and green PCB.
I guess you forgot, but the Mac mini used to have a plexiglass top, and no you could not see inside.

Heh. ;)

FWIW, L0vetodream sent out this cryptic tweet a couple of days ago:

"This set of design IDs has been passed down for many years."
Part of why I'm so skeptical is that they already did this and the glass top would add nothing functional. But as a lover of retro designs I would really appreciate if they did a nano version of the original Mac Mini.

Do you go to Delaware or New Hampshire or maybe just some airport booth to get your sales tax refunded?
Adurama uses to do no sales tax sales on top of their deals. Alternatively I drive to New Hampshire which isn't too far from my US office.

While I don't believe it will make an appearance, there is arguably a reason for it. The plastic top would transmit WiFi and Bluetooth signals better. Wireless connection strength has been an ongoing complaint with the Mac mini line.

I’m looking forward to get my hands on MacMini M2 with bootcamp or VMware to run windows 10/11 pro.

I am waiting on the 3Nm chip, I think the wait is just 2 years or less, plenty of time to save up for it. I can nurse my i7 along til then, just need to get used to only opening one app at a time because I frequently run out of RAM. Also maybe I will sign back up for backblaze, because it worked pretty well, and was way easier than backing up every other month in case of catastrophe..

What in the wide, wide world of sports is goin' on here?

A new iPad Pro, and a Mac Mini with an M2 Pro, and Macbook Pro's with M2 Pro's, but no Apple Silicon Mac Pro until 2023?

Mark Gruman's dart board is so worn out, nothing sticks anymore. Guess now he tosses out rumors to see if they stick on his ceiling. :D

From late 2016 MBP 16" -> upgrade to M2 or (possibly bargain) M1?

(I think I'll stick to 1TB and 16GB Ram, usage is web development mainly.)

No keynote for M2 Pro/Max?

I was looking forward to another presentation by Johny Srouji in his Apple Lab, to show off what he's cooking up. And performance per watt curves of Apple Silicon vs Intel. Intel's Raptor Lake is a beast from both a performance and power perspective. Although the i9 can be undervolted to reduce all-core load temps by over 20C.

Hopefully there's a Johny Srouji presentation when Apple launches its 3nm products.

Whats the difference between Ultra/Max/Extreme? It seems we are having the same issue that Pirelli had in F1 when they had super soft, ultra soft, hyper soft and no one knew which was better.
Knowing Apple, they'll leave the MacBook Pro M1 Pro/Max on offer and pump up the price of the new ones with M2 Pro/Max processors by 30%.
Heavily specified pro-level MBPs have been ~$4K since circa 2011, yet performance keeps increasing. Folks willing to live with last year's tech and always be a year behind on the tech curve can buy last year's boxes and save $$ (I saved ~$1k on a 2016 MBP purchased in 2017 - but of course that MBP now cannot be upgraded to Ventura, while the 2017 MBPs can).

Whining about price is just that: whining.

It would seem to me that adding a Mac Mini Pro (IF it actually shows up) presumably "starting at" about $1299-$1499 seems like THE Mac lineup for the multitudes.

Add any size & shape (like ultra-wide) monitor you want. Overcome the 16GB RAM limit if you need it. When Apple obsoletes the tech guts with macOS upgrades, easily replace those guts ONLY vs. throwing out the monitor too. Some even attach/velcro a Mini to the back of a monitor to fake the look of an "all in one." Etc.

Price wins for most buyers and Mini lineup hangs at that end of the spectrum. Mac Mini Pro seems like it would bring the added power for nearly everyone but the most demanding users.

Crazier thought: Pick up a 4K 15" or 16" portable screen and Mini/Mini Pro could double as mobile Mac too (vs. paying up for MBs)... not "all in one (case)" like a MB but not the "same as" duplication of technology either. Mini + portable monitor + keyboard and mouse would all fit in a pretty slim case... like those with sponge filling where you can cut out "holes" for your specific mix of pieces. For those missing the 17" MBpro, there's even a 4.5 star 17.3" portable monitor on Amazon...

And, want/need (full, not just ARM) Windows too? Cut out one more hole and get a Mini-like PC.
Someone had that idea, although with a smaller monitor:

It doesn't seem to me like Apple silicon is in a place yet where it can replace the old Intel machines. The on-die RAM is really limiting at the high end.
Apple could just make a computer cluster. (A computer cluster is a set of connected computers that perform as a single system). Seems they could provide racks of Mac Studios for example instead of a Mac Pro. Maybe that why you hear nothing about AS Mac Pro, they just make that possible in MacOS.
