the menubar scales when you adjust the workspace size... that would look horrible.

It seems to me that if there were a notch on the new MBPs, it would interfere in some manner with the menu bar and therefore there would have to be some accommodation for it in Monterey. So, how come new display resolutions were found in Monterey, but there's been no evidence found (yet) for the notch? Sketchy indeed.

Think they got confused. They were actually reading the script for Dumb and Dumber 3, not leaked schematics.

In saying that, better not be true! Haha. Surely Apple ain't that dumb...

Notch on the MacBook, why?
They have enough real estate to handle it without a notch, look at the iPad Pros. MacBook Pros don't need to reduce like phones.

While I think the notch is highly unlikely, Apple may still do it. They have a penchant for introducing questionable features just to look "different" from other brands' products. Just marketing (because they can't compete on price).

I've gone through all the stages of grief and now I'm pretty convinced that it will happen (the only likely explanation for those 74 pixels) and that it will be fine.

My expectation is that it will sit in the middle of your menu bar in normal usage, which in 99% of cases is empty anyway. The OS is smart enough to push any extra menus to the right of the notch, so nothing will be obscured. In full screen mode it'll just give apps the 16:10 space, unless they opt in to a mode which would allow them to render extra stuff at the top of the screen. All pretty simple and painless.

I will be annoyed if there's no FaceID, though.

Thing is notch in iPhone is awful BUT extremely useful as you lock and unlock dozens to hundreds times a day the iPhone, so it takes a space but delivers a good job

macbooks are locked and unlocked betwwen one and a few times (ok some could need dozens a day, but not the vast majority) so the botch would be a huge mistake just for face id.

so notch would be a really bad idea

I'm clearly in the minority but who gives a crap about whether there's a notch? I don't even notice it on my iPhone 11. Yeah, it's there but once the screen lights up, it doesn't matter. At least not for me. First-world problems. 🥴

The “similar to iPhone 12” part makes it sound believable. This product is already a year overdue. Everything is based on last years tech and design.

Why would people even want small bezels on a laptop? On a phone it makes sense because you want the device to be as small as possible. But especially on a machine for content creation, I actually like bezels.

Bezels serve a purpose. They separate your work from the surroundings. Professional monitors even have bigger bezels than technically necessary, just to be able to focus on your screen better.

I, for one, would love for apple to make the bezels bigger rather than smaller. Those few extra centimeters will fit in my bag anyway.

Haha. But I’m probably the only one. We’ll see.

Click bait.

iPad doesn't have notch.
New iPhone has smaller notch
iPhone 14/15 rumoured to not have a notch

If the statements above weren't true, it could be Apple's trademark, but it isn't.

iPad doesn't have a notch, because it is large and heavy and needs large bezels for us to hold them properly with 1/2 hands...
iPhone is light and doesn't need it, and you don't hold a Mac by its screen either!

Not saying the rumor is true, just why the iPad doesn't have a notch.

I foresee the Apple glasses with notch for each eye
The secret is to make the notches be flip-down.
