iPad doesn't have notch.
New iPhone has smaller notch
iPhone 14/15 rumoured to not have a notch

If the statements above weren't true, it could be Apple's trademark, but it isn't.

FWIW, I heard it here first:

3456 x 2234 is a weird aspect ratio. At 1.55:1 it seems to fall in between 16:10 (1.6.1, which would be 3456 x 2160) and 3:2 (1.5:1, which would be 3456 x 2304). Odd. Neither TV standard 16:9 (thank heavens) nor Apple's previously common 16:10. I wonder if it could be 16:10 with a 74px "extra" region/stripe across the top or bottom - at 257dpi, it's a stripe a bit over 1/4" tall (camera "notch", anyone?).

True or not, it seems like a reasonable possibility.

y'all keep claiming this is a bs story. this is going to happen. I won't have a problem with a notch. the top bar is covered by the menu bar anyhow. only issue is if you watch YouTube videos at full screen.
And you can put a black stripe when it's playing videos, so the notch doesn't interfere.
Most video content shows a black bar even on wide screen computer monitors already.

Dell's XPS has had super slim bezels for a long time, and with no notch.

That’s “super slim”? Nah, THIS is super slim. :) It uses an under display camera, though, so FaceID wouldn’t work with it.

We have gone through this with the Magsafe, touchbar and function keys. Make that notch as a "new" design. People complain about it and long for the notch-less screen. Few years later, remove the notch people will buy again.

This is the other way around...dont go into the display but upwards the bezel

Bring Face ID to Macs already. It has been 4 years since it first came to the iPhone. Oh and it should be Face ID without a notch of course.

Not sure why all the hate... if it means I gain all that extra space for the menubar to be in then that is great idea... not sure why it makes sense to anyone if the only reason why there is a larger bezel at top blocking 90% of the potentially useable screen area is just so that the bezel is straight across entire screen for camera.

It seems this is feasible, though clearly not widely loved by everyone.

Given the resolution leaks for both the 14-inch and 16-inch models, they don’t quite add up to the standard 16:10 aspect ratio we have been using for a long time. For those making the argument that the iPad‘s don’t have a notch, while that is true, the iPad was made to hold in your hand as a tablet so as someone has already said “thumb space” is critical (I am not talking about the iPad docked into a keyboard mechanism (i.e. Magic Keyboard).

For those of you arguing that the iPhone 13 has a “smaller” notch. Again, sort of true, but it is thicker than previous generations, and the rumour that the next iPhone will not have a notch is already being contradicted with rumours that it will in fact have a punch-hole type design. In summary, even the iPhone isn’t advanced enough yet to have a camera module and other components underneath the display yet. What makes you think they wouldn’t put that technology in one of their hardware bread and butter prior to migrating it the MacBooks?

The only issue I see is the Menu bar at the top of the screen. Though I am sure that could be solved by software modification, but I’ll leave that up to the macOS team to figure out if this is even true.

I call B.S. on that rumor. There won't be a notch.
Then explain the weird rumoured resolutions that don't add up to any known aspect ratio. Yet are 74 vertical pixel lines more than the MacBook regulation 16:10? While 74 lines would be about 5mm the usual height of the menu bar. Even if there's no FaceID it still suggests the webcam would be integrated into a menu bar that is extra from the regular 16:10 screen.

I actually wouldn’t be against this. Having basically no bezels would be beautiful.

Apple's redesigned MacBook Pro models could feature a notch containing the webcam, according to a sketchy last-minute rumor that is circulating online.

MacBook-Pro-Notch-Feature.jpg

MacRumors' render of a next-generation MacBook Pro with a notch.

The rumor appears to have originated from a Weibo user in China, who stipulates that the redesigned MacBook Pro will feature a notch. It apparently has a size "similar to iPhone 12." The Twitter user known as "DuanRui," who often shares information about Apple's plans from Weibo, suggested that the rumor could simply be a joke. That being said, a Reddit user with no track-record, who professes to have spoken with supply chain sources, has now made the same claim.

The Reddit post says that the new MacBook Pro will feature a standard-sized notch rather than the smaller one from the iPhone 13 lineup. Instead of containing a Face ID TrueDepth camera like on the iPhone, the MacBook Pro's notch apparently houses a 1080p webcam, a True Tone sensor, and a microphone.

Even with a notch out of the top of the display, Apple is said to have been unable to give the MacBook Pro four borders with equal width. This notch design is also apparently set to come to 2022's redesigned MacBook Air.

Although the claim may seem laughable at first, the Redditor highlighted MacRumors' finding that the new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros will feature resolutions of 3024 by 1964 and 3456 by 2234. When subtracting 74 pixels from the height of both, the 3024 by 1890 and 3456 by 2160 is equivalent to an aspect ratio of 16:10. All of Apple's current MacBooks feature an aspect ratio of 16:10, so with the allowance of 74 pixels in height for a notch, this point does seem to be plausible.

The iPhone 11's TrueDepth camera array, known colloquially as the "notch."

Huge questions remain around how macOS would handle a notch, since it would clearly eat into the Menu Bar, and it seems baffling that Apple would give the MacBook Pro a notch while withholding Face ID and equally sized bezels.

Another rumor mentioned in the Reddit post and on Weibo claims that the entire keyboard area of the new MacBook Pros is black, rather than just the keys, in what is "probably the biggest visual change on the keyboard since the Unibody redesigns over a decade ago." There is also the not-unreasonable assertion that the MacBook Pros will be getting thicker and feature larger fans.

This is a rumor from unproven sources, but it is worth noting that the Apple rumor-mill has been blindsided before, such as with the last-minute claim that the Apple Watch Series 7 would feature the same rounded design of the Apple Watch Series 6, which was derided by observers online but ultimately turned out to be true.

The notch has become something of a brand icon for Apple, making recent-generation iPhones highly recognizable. The design feature has criticized for being inelegant by some users, and if it turns out to be correct, the notch coming to the MacBook Pro would likely be a source of derision for a device that has otherwise been highly anticipated.

The new MacBook Pro models are widely expected to be announced on Monday, 18 October at Apple's "Unleashed" event.

I very highly doubt the extra 74 lines equates to there being a notch. If you think about some of the Mac applications & how their menu bar items go across the screen, a notch would be in the way. It would really mess with some important applications, like Photoshop, from a user standpoint. I'd have to believe Apple realizes a notch on the top of the Mac GUI is a non-starter.

I mean if you are going down the porn road, you could have went with Liquorice black.

Seems possible since they've added an option to Monterey to always show the Menubar in fullscreen apps!

It'll be just for the Menubar, and can be a black bar in games and stuff to not be in the way.

Personally I wouldn't mind it if Face ID is added too!

Sounds weird. Also that bit about them not able to get same width bezels across the screen. They managed it on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch but not here? Current MacBooks Pro's just look weird with those uneven bezels. I personally hope for slightly rounded corners like the new Surface Studio Laptop, which would also fit within Apple's current design language.

Yep, at this point, I’m gonna guess it is a 16:10 “screen”, and your normal menu bar and such sits within the 16:10 area, and the notch stripe contains the notch (obviously), along with some of the indicators that traditionally occupy the right side of the menu bar, like signal strength and volume indicators, the clock, and such, similar to what they do on the iPhone. Existing software doesn’t need to know about it, they see an unbroken 16:10 rectangle, probably some new functions in the OS to manipulate the new regions to the left and right of the notch.
