If this was 100% purely based on Apple’s desire to increase profits this would not be solely for Europe. In my humble opinion.

Good! The Europeans don't deserve a charger in the box. Every time you turn around the EU is suing Apple for something. FAFO. If they had included the charger the EU would have probably sued them for including it anyway. This is a fantastic move!

You think having to reuse a USB-C charger scares anyone? Europe has the financials to not care.

They should at least include a discount code or something similar if you need to buy a charger, or offer some other way to get one. Yet another opportunity for the EU to step in and make them fix this issue.

The goal of the common charger directive is to unbundle the sale of electronic devices and chargers. What Apple is doing here is what the EU wants.

This is ridiculous. While I support Apple not providing a charger with iPhones and iPads, every laptop needs a different power brick.

Here Apple is following the goal of EU: The unbundling of electronic devices and chargers.

All you Europeans...go buy it and then return it a few days later and simply state "it doesn't have a charger."

A few hundred or thousand returns due to this reason should change Apple's mind. Online petitions and protests won't help. Go buy it, open it, use it for a few days, return it and force Apple to deal with selling them now as USED/REFURBISHED.

p.s. I get that many people already have a charger(s) that MAY charge certain newly-purchased devices correctly/speedily. But to NOT include one because, in reality, Apple thinks you already have one that can somehow fulfill the need, is arrogant.

I’m sorry if this has already been posted:

I compared the price of the M5 MacBook Pro to the price of the M4 MacBook Pro (at launch) for Italy, France, and Germany, as well as for Switzerland: in these three EU member states, the price decreased by €100, while in Switzerland it dropped by 50 Swiss francs.

Although both currencies have strengthened against the dollar since the beginning of the year, Apple could also have maintained the same price compared to the MacBook Pro M4.

I personally would have preferred the option to buy the MacBook without an included charger and an even steeper price drop to account for the > 10% increase in EUR/USD since January… but I’m aware that this would’ve been too much too expect since it’s still Apple we are talking about.
I am pretty sure that this is only because of the currency exchange rates.
In UK the price is the same 1599GBP and as far as I understood - they removed the charger in UK as well.

I'm glad Apple couldn't get into cars because they'd just push dumb standards like this on the industry and everyone else would copy them.

I had to double check this on the Portuguese apple site. That is in fact true. This is the most anti-consumer decision I’ve ever seen from apple. So you buy a device that DOES NOT work as it is.

Sad, but I’m forced to never buy another Apple laptop. Will start to migrate to windows again or Linux.

Heck, for the price I can even have a 2-in-1 solid option with foldable screen and such and ditch the iPad also.

Ridiculous move from Apple IMHO

the law requires chargers to be interoperable, using... ummmmm... USB-C, so it's exactly the charger that Apple decided not to ship. This is not because of EU laws, it's a Apple's Wallet law

Although the regulation doesn't force the unbundling of chargers, it's highly encouraged. It will apply to PCs from April 2026.

"[...]It is therefore necessary to impose requirements to ensure that consumers and other end-users are not obliged to purchase a new charging device with each purchase of a new mobile phone or similar item of radio equipment. Unbundling the sale of charging devices from the sale of radio equipment would provide sustainable, available, attractive and convenient choices for consumers and other end-users."

"Unbundling the sale of a charger from the sale of the electronic device — Consumers are able to purchase a new electronic device without a new charger. This limits the number of chargers on the market or left unused. Reducing production and disposal of new chargers is estimated to reduce the amount of electronic waste by 980 tonnes yearly."

"Can a radio equipment be sold with the charging device in-box?
Yes, as long as the consumer has also the choice of buying the same radio equipment without a charging device in-box."

"Does the requirement on unbundling mean that, when radio equipment without a charging device is offered for sale, there is no obligation to also offer the same model of radio equipment with a charging device?
Yes."

"Does the requirement on unbundling of the charging device mean that it should always be possible for the consumer to buy a product without the charging device?
Yes."

If you want the charger included in the same box, they make you customize your order and add it as an extra — but they still charge you the same amount. The only way to avoid that is to go to the next page and add the charger separately.
Same in Belgium store. It’s like they can sell it with charger included, but not with the base model. 😲

Do EU regulations differentiate between wattage for chargers being included in the box?

No, it only needs to support basic USB-C for the port and USB-PD for charging. So the minium would be 15 watt.

Also the charger included doesn't have to be the same as the one sold separately. Can be a different brand, type, model, colour, functionality.
