It's pretty disgusting considering many will need to buy one , and unlike an iPhone chargers those cost a LOT of money

Not too disgusting. In the European Union’s all knowing, never wrong always right knowledge…everyone already has a charger and doesn’t need to add to the electronic waste with this. EU believes everyone already has a charger, or access to one. EU is perfect so we can’t argue that, they know best 👏

They can't. They expect you to upgrade the spec of the configuration to have the privilege of being able to add a charger to the order. 😀
If you want the charger included in the same box, they make you customize your order and add it as an extra — but they still charge you the same amount. The only way to avoid that is to go to the next page and add the charger separately.

EU regulations say that companies can include a charger. As long as the device has the option of charging via USB-C, then, as far as regulators are concerned, not having a charger isn’t a valid consumer complaint.
The 2026 regulations actually say that companies must offer a model without a bundled charger, but can also offer a more expensive variant with a bundled charger if they choose to do so.

And what does “producing less” actually mean? Simple: make products that last as long as possible — not disposable gadgets, but devices that can be updated, not thrown away.

Another idea: why even make “low-level” products? Why not focus on high-end models only, and use refurbished versions of previous generations — cosmetically renewed and with a new battery — to fill the mid and low tiers? That would truly reduce waste.

This user gets it 👆

Bravo 👏

Actually caring about the environment would be about designing less skus, that last longer and are far more upgradeable & repairable.

Some day, somewhere in the future, folks will look back and it'll be quite obvious how noxious current business trends are in this regard.

the law requires chargers to be interoperable, using... ummmmm... USB-C, so it's exactly the charger that Apple decided not to ship. This is not because of EU laws, it's a Apple's Wallet law
That’s not the right the law - the law in question is the end run law the EU did by redefining as “radio equipment” anything that might emit RF and then requiring them to be sold without chargers if they are sold with chargers.

if you believe this has to do with the EU you're fooling yourself . This is apple

What a **** take. It is a COMPUTER!! Here's your new computer, great and how do I charge it up? Well you can do that sir for an additional cost...

It's like owning an electric car with no home charger..
That would be most people with BEVs - they can just plug into a regular outlet instead of having a charger installed.

This is nowhere near a rational decision like there would be with a phone charger. You could argue that without a charger you're not being given the ability to use the laptop as intended. Which could backfire.

And the car will take 24 hours to charge up as a result. Just like if you charge up the laptop with a phone charger.. then again you won't be able to use this laptop whilst charging it with a phone charger either just like an electric car can't be used whilst charging.

Yet if you want an upgrade, you have to throw away a perfectly good display and enclosure just to buy a new one identical to the old one. That’s shameful.
You’ve never heard about trade-in, recycling, selling used, handing down? If you throw away a working laptop or phone that is still supported (and Apple has historically supported longer than anyone for phones) that’s on you, not Apple.

I just checked and it's also 100€ cheaper in EU !

Now, this might be due to euro-dollar being stronger .

But still, a welcome change

Im waiting for m6 anyway so I'm expecting a 300€ price increase at least

I think it's about time we start an uprising about this....
Well the only uprising consumers can do is a boycott. But that likely won”t happen here, because likely most of the people complaining either were never going to buy it or they were going to buy it and still will because they still want it.

Final note: the law mentioned in the article does not apply in Switzerland. Because we are not part of the EU, and never have been.
But unless Apple needs a special SKU for Switzerland already (and the UK), why should Apple spend the money, time and logistics to make one?
