There is a law about power adapters for laptops and it starts in April 2026, which assuming this laptop will still be the newest one sold then kind of makes sense.

The UK is not in the EU. It’s nonsense and penny pinching.

Disappointing. Will not be long before the same happens to rest of the regions and for all devices.

Its funny how I have said this all the time. Soon they will be selling you iPhones without the iPhone.

Apple devices sold without chargers should come with codes redeemable at Apple Stores which entitle the user to a free charger. That way, people who need a charger can get one, and the people who don’t, don’t get given a charger that will go to waste.

Or drop the price of the device by the cost of the charger.

I can live with that. I actually never use the charger that came with my M1 Air. Too bulky, too slow, and has only one port. As a gesture of good will they could have added a spare USB-C to MagSafe cable though. Or maybe the Apple Cloth 🤣.

I think that's a step too far. You can charge your phone with any USB charger and you almost never use it while plugged in, so it doesn't matter if it charges slow or fast.

But with a Mac you can use a charger that can't supply enough power during heavy use, leading to the strange behavior that your Mac seems to charge fine and then one day it just runs out of battery while rendering a video. If you're not careful about checking the brand and output of the power adapter then you can easily run into this, and it's always a surprise when you come home to a completely dead Mac that won't even turn on because it's so drained, and you might not even realize what happened.

Also, as opposed to random USB phone chargers, mostly no one has 70W UBC-C chargers lying around at home. So it's something you're going to have to buy. And your next Mac might use a 80W one so you'll just have to buy another one every time you get a new Mac.

If i understand it correctly, this law is set to be effective in 2028, not now. It also doesn't prevent Apple from including external power supplies then, they just have to be more efficient and follow some standard (like has to be usb-c).

So this is more Tim Apple counting few more beans.

Check the EU statement.

I have a couple multi-port 100W chargers. I honestly DON'T want another ****** apple single port just barely enough power device. If you can't put a 100W 4 port charger in the box that can charge and power several things at once, then yes I agree dumping the 70W charger is a good move all around. Please stop feigning you don't have a decent charger around, and if you _really_ don't, you can easily fine 120-150W ones for very reasonable that will outlast all the devices it powers.

the law requires chargers to be interoperable, using... ummmmm... USB-C, so it's exactly the charger that Apple decided not to ship. This is not because of EU laws, it's a Apple's Wallet law

Maybe it's like carrier bags in the Apple Store. They only provide one upon request ;)

This is ridiculous. I get not including the charger on phones as most people would have a spare lying about that would work. I would be happy to bet that most people don't have a spare 70W+ charger lying around. This has nothing to do with saving the environment, it's purely Apple penny pinching to pad there profit margin.

Some other posts in this thread mention the common charger laws coming in next year. That argument doesn't work as the current included charger with the M4 laptops uses USB-C which would comply with the common charger regs.

At least Finnish order says 70W charger included.
