A tiny 65 W GAN charger with 2 USB-C ports from Ugreen is £21.99 at Amazon

These are much cheaper than Apple's chargers, give you more options / flexibility and are from a reliable vendor.

I have a couple multi-port 100W chargers. I honestly DON'T want another ****** apple single port just barely enough power device. If you can't put a 100W 4 port charger in the box that can charge and power several things at once, then yes I agree dumping the 70W charger is a good move all around. Please stop feigning you don't have a decent charger around, and if you _really_ don't, you can easily fine 120-150W ones for very reasonable that will outlast all the devices it powers.
Well if Steve has too many chargers, shut down the factory everyone!

What I find funny about this is that Apple would have at least attempted to source the materials as environmentally friendly as possible for their chargers, whereas now people are just going to buy more Chinese chargers that are sourced from the tears of young squirrels!

Hot take. Not a big deal. I still use the adapter that came with my 2018 MacBook and the new one is still in the box. What Apple should do is offer a free adapter and cable with the first purchase of any device and then they can take away the cable too.

I bought a 4-port 100W charger yesterday for travel since Apple’s dual port one is only 35W and I needed more power and ports. Then I realised I’ve barely used the original charger that came with my MBP anyway. At home and in the office it’s always plugged into a dock or USB C monitor, and when I actually need the charger, it’s just another heavy single port brick to carry. The new one is smaller, lighter and has more ports.

Almost like I saw it coming, I thought last night that Apple would probably take the charger away soon. And right on cue, they did.

Imagine paying ££££ for a “pro” laptop and the company still manages to cheap out under the banner of saving the planet. Classic Timmy.

I go into the office a few times a week...I brought a spare charger but just use the USB-C connector to my monitor and that charges the MBP...

thanks to USB-C, I don't need a charger. I understand some users will, but it comes to a point when we have enough wall-chargers to use.

the law requires chargers to be interoperable, using... ummmmm... USB-C, so it's exactly the charger that Apple decided not to ship. This is not because of EU laws, it's a Apple's Wallet law

No. It's because of the EU law. It requires companies to offer an SKU WITHOUT a charger. They are allowed to offer multiple SKUs and one that does include a charger is also allowed. But one without a charger is actually required.

Apparently it is only for laptops up to 100w also.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 chip does not include a charger in the box in European countries, including the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, and others, according to Apple's online store.

In the U.S. and all other countries outside of Europe, the new MacBook Pro comes with Apple's 70W USB-C Power Adapter, but European customers miss out.

Apple has gradually stopped including chargers with many products over the years — a decision it has attributed to its environmental goals. In addition, the European Union has implemented new regulations related to electronic waste.

Apple still includes a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable in the box with the 14-inch MacBook Pro in Europe, so you only need to supply a charger if you need one.

In the U.K., the 70W USB-C Power Adapter costs £59.

Apple is getting ahead of new EU laws. If upset by this speak to your government. If it was truly just Apple wanting more money why did they include it in other regions? You get what you vote for enjoy.

I think it's about time we start an uprising about this....
You can start by asking your government why did they write those laws.

I have 3 separate Philips shavers and hair clippers, all bought in the last 3 months. None of them can be charged through USB-C, and none of them can use the others' chargers. Apparently their environmental goals only apply to categories they are not competitive at.

Just one clarification point. It isn’t because of the EU. How do I know you might ask (correctly so). Switzerland is not part of the EU, never has been. It is the country in the middle of Europe where iPhone mirroring is available, where all the rules of for the EU where never applied. We had the immediate release of Apple Intelligence, iPhone mirroring (as written), live translations on AirPods. All of it. And yet the charger for the MBP is also optional. It is a hidden price hike in the non US markets to offset the decreased revenues in the US due to tariffs. The computer costs the same, tariffs or not. But “other countries” have a price increase, due to the lack of an accessory, that helps to offset the price increase the US customers would otherwise have suffered. The rest is just fiction.

Final note: the law mentioned in the article does not apply in Switzerland. Because we are not part of the EU, and never have been.

My personal take is that this is one of the smartest moves by a company to spread the cost of US tariffs to “the rest of the world” and one many other companies will copy soon enough. Do I like it? Not a bit!!

Apple devices sold without chargers should come with codes redeemable at Apple Stores which entitle the user to a free charger. That way, people who need a charger can get one, and the people who don’t, don’t get given a charger that will go to waste.

Or drop the price of the device by the cost of the charger.
Your suggestions are far too sensible.
