I read the release as all devices need to support USB-C so you can use common chargers across all devices. True that is the port and power protocol.
But reading between the lines (and with the EU laws you kind of have to) that also implies there should be limited chargers out there. The release linked to previously even calls that out:
- Saving money: You can now buy new electronic devices without a charger. This will help consumers save approximately €250 million a year on unnecessary charger purchases.
If every device still comes with a charger where is the savings? As others have said better, multi-port chargers are available for low cost that will support charging multiple devices using common means simultaneously. Why should everything come with a charger then there are options and will result in no savings?
