And you can only order a charger if you customise another part of the configuration such as extra storage or RAM. 😀 So £259 minimum extra on UK pricing.

30 less cargo flights could of occurred in 2024 if the chargers were removed. For perspective.

Why are so many EU folks moaning about it. You are getting what you wanted 👏

Happy to see the US still gets chargers, a very nice, and necessary, piece of equipment

Yes it's good in the US chargers are still included with everything. People in the EU have never had it so bad.

Some time ago I tried to return one of my chargers at the Apple Store in Frankfurt for recycling. The reaction was extremely unfriendly. The last thing I need, is a further charger.

Bad? There getting (or actually not in this case) getting everything they wanted! They love the EU,DMA, etc so this is the result. They should be happy.

On the whole, I think I'd take EU consumer laws where Apple can be forced to repair devices upto 7 years after purchase versus a free power adapter.

That's like saying US folks asked for tariffs. That's not how gov works.
Also, why no chargers for iPhones?
what about the folks in the UK and Switzerland who have nothing to do with what the EU does? Logic aint logic-ing.

Is this stingy or is it to meet some EU regulation?
The EU legislation states that you must be able to charge your device via a common standard port (e.g. USB-C or Wireless via Qi) If you offer an additional proprietary charging also (e.g. MagSafe), it‘s fine.

The lone reason why they dropped the wall charger, is due to cost. UK could have this one included since they use a different connector to the socket as the rest of the European continent.

the law requires chargers to be interoperable, using... ummmmm... USB-C, so it's exactly the charger that Apple decided not to ship. This is not because of EU laws, it's a Apple's Wallet law
I read the release as all devices need to support USB-C so you can use common chargers across all devices. True that is the port and power protocol.

But reading between the lines (and with the EU laws you kind of have to) that also implies there should be limited chargers out there. The release linked to previously even calls that out:

  • Saving money: You can now buy new electronic devices without a charger. This will help consumers save approximately €250 million a year on unnecessary charger purchases.
If every device still comes with a charger where is the savings? As others have said better, multi-port chargers are available for low cost that will support charging multiple devices using common means simultaneously. Why should everything come with a charger then there are options and will result in no savings?

Tim Apple just really hates Europeans. No, there's no charger, there's no discount, and there's no easter bunny.

I bet when the EU does something relating to repairability they'll ship laptops sans batteries. This is the contempt Tim harbors for his customers.

Problem was never on the charger side of the cable. Apple Plug was always USB-A/-C, the device side was an „environmental“ problem according to EU (with 30-pin and Lightning).

Fine, don't ship a charger due to "environment" but deduct $60 from the cost of the product then!
The argument they make is that they actually added $60 of more value to the product to negate the charger. I don't really buy that but that's the frequent defence I hear. It's really dumb excluding a charger from a computer purchase.

That is to get it included in the box, you can order it in a separate box for the same price 59.
