New MacBook Pro Features Breakdown: Everything Rumors Say We Can Expect

What's the liklyhood of an updated intel top end model? An 11th gen or even 10th gen CPU for those who still need intel / many of the features possibly not available under M1* that we get with intel based boards?
Unfortunately Intel Mac's are dead. There will be no 11th gen version. 🙁

Hello everyone,

I've been using Apple products since 2008. As for everyone here, I'm very excited for this upcoming event to see the release of the Macbook Pro M1X. But, there is one problem that I have with these new upcoming Apple products that no one is really talking about a lot here. It's the Right to Repair. One of the main reasons that I've managed to extend the lifetime of my Macbook Pro 13' (mid-2014) is due to the fact that I was able to replace my SSD. Sadly, the RAM isn't upgradable. By replacing the SSD and running it on macOS Catalina, it's running very smooth and efficient. Pretty simple to replace the SSD if you follow the procedures on ifixit.com. So, here is the problem that I'm encountering now. This M1X will be powerful and expensive but with the storage starting at 512GB SSD that's just unacceptable with today's standards. That amount of storage is very low and most likely it will not be replaceable as any other component in the M1X laptop. For instance, look what Apple did with the iPhone 13, the camera component has it's own registered serial number so it can't be swamped or replaced. In the end, you end up paying over $2,000 for a Macbook Pro M1X that will be replaced with the M2 chip in the upcoming months and the cycle repeats itself. So, if you wanted to add more storage for your M1X Macbook Pro, most likely you won't be able to replace the SSD/RAM and you'll be put in the position to pay extra for that upgrade. It's just frustrating that we pay so much for these Apple products but we have so little control over our devices when it comes to Right to Repair. As time goes on, these Apple products will be more expensive and impossible to upgrade or repair. Sadly, correct me if I'm wrong, the next product is already awaiting in line for the M2 chip Macbook Air to come out in the year of 2022. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple products but it's a lot of money to pay that won't allow you to upgrade your SSD or RAM when the time comes.
What are your thoughts?
It's the Apple way. I just purchased a Asus FX706H laptop for $779(pre-tax) last weekend. It's up-gradable to 64Gb ram/4Tb storage whenever i get around to it. And, yes, it's Windows 10-which I prefer in alot of ways to MacOS. Apple doesn't want their users to have the ability to upgrade. Which I find to be abhorrent.

Some people Wille be excited, some won't and the new MacBooks ill still sell well. mainly because of the new chips. M1X or M2 - they are both something to get excited about. I can remember the excitement of the intro of the 386, which would be blazing fast when compared to the 286 (my work notebook was WINTEL basesd)

I believe that Apple Silicone will generate far m-ore excitement, especially when hearing of the performance increases on the 18th,

What would really wake up the naysayers? A MacPro with M2X processor? 2TB of RAM?

I think you are missing the ‘unleashed’ feature: turbo mode or whatever they call it.

All that cooling capacity for a miserly chip would be wasted unless there is a new mode we don’t know of.

If Apple Ramos up the watts on these chips the performance may be shockingly high.
Apple, wasting the potential of its chip? This poster clearly doesn’t own the new 12.9 iPad Pro.

I better be able to charge the laptop from my usbc monitor. Otherwise, I’ll be super pissed.

I've been using my MacBook Pro since 2010. Oh geeze, I need an upgrade. I've put too much money into fixing mine. I never upgraded because I hated the dongles and no ports and touchbar. My only other issue is will I be able to fix the new MacBook Pro when it breaks, after warranty? Will Apple glue the battery and hard drive down? I believe in my Right to Repair. It's my computer. I own it. I hope this is everything it is cracked up to be.

Apple always downgrades the amount of RAM from the notebook marketplace! 16GB! So you are force to pay get the 32GB or 64GB. Soldered in. LOL!

“Alleged” schematics - just like the CAD drawings that some leaker shared were the AW7 - LOL

uhm, no. in early 2021 there was a (ransomware?) attack on a subcontractor's infrastructure. the attackers blackmailed the subcontractor and leaked some files to the public. search for "x2728" and "mlb" and you'll find the schematics of the 2021 14" MBP quickly.

If it can power an external 4k monitor sans an eGPU without sounding like it's going to launch to Mars, I will be happy.

Only want a larger screen to improve workflow when I'm on the road, the 13-14" just doesn't do it even with airplay iPad 2nd monitor.
Why I'm waiting before purchase... bought the original MBP16 fully loaded (and over 5000Eur) day one and been stuck with a jet engine sounding box of wonk (while colleagues that have the bookended models see/hear mine and go WTF?).

I'm super excited about this and can't wait to get one, but this time around I'll skip risking thousands to show my faith, loyalty and devotion and be on the "cool beta users" list.

The reason why I'm expressing suspicion (and I obviously don't want it to be true) is that there'd be almost no doubt at this point from all rumour sites/influencers that it would be 32GB if it's black and white on a schematic. The fact we still have various platforms saying there're rumours it's up to 64GB is a good sign. We have no true way of knowing this really going to be the case, i.e. if the schematic is legit, and what sort of developments may have changed since then if it has. I also feel like Apple would be hurting themselves by offering less RAM than what they're replacing. Wouldn't be a good way to retain customers.

Please leave the ports as they are. The HDMI port is absolutely unnecessary, most people already have a dongle for that. SD cards, maybe, but give me two thunderbolt ports on the left and right side, so I can keep my current setup (mbpro - 4k lg - 4k lg). Would be quite the change if I have to move the mbpro to the right side of my desk.
Actually I have 3 dongles (including Apple's very own) for HDMI (and 3 different desktop docks) .. since depending on which location I'm at various ones won't work... then there's the constant black screen flashing etc.

Just give me a HDMI port that works (like all the folks laughing at me in the conference rooms I connect my MBP16 to)... I know many will say "that never happens to me"... usually folks that either have had the MIB pen waved in their face or full of *** fanboys (or fangals, fanXs, etc).

Overall this sounds fantastic. I will likely buy the new 16 inch version.

Finally a 1080p webcam! The current 720 is a joke and can't even compete even with budget laptops.

MagSafe return is welcome, but I really hope they do not remove USB-C charging, that would be a disaster. (The European Unit will luckily force them to support USB-C charging soon anyway but I would to buy a laptop now)

Only three USB-C ports is a bit of a disappointment but maybe acceptable. MagSafe, HDMI, and SD does not hurt, but should not be added at the expense of USB-C/thunderbolt. I aleady have plenty of USB-C changers, USB-C to HDMI cableas, and USB-C to SD adapter.
